Inspired from the slender yet strong bamboo, Bhaiti is young, energetic and jovial and is ever ready to play along any game and enjoys them. Bhaiti is wearing a Dhoti, Gomocha (Towel) and traditional Shirt to the Assamese men during the Bihu Celebrations. The Name : Bhaiti The word in Assamese for Younger Brother or Loving Brother. The word is even used to address strangers whom one meet for the first time especially among peers and start a conversation. Creator : Thomas G. Manih (M. 3 The Inter IIT Sports Meet is organized annually among all IITs by rotation/mutual consent at any one of the Indian Institutes of Technology. RULE BOOK BOOK I. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES 1. The main objective of Inter IIT Sports Meet is to organize sports competitions in some selected Olympics recognized events, to encourage sportsmanship, to promote and create a better harmony, understanding and friendly interaction among the students of the IITs as well as to foster a close association among them. 2. To make the students aware of the importance of sports and games in day to day life. 3. To help students to move skillfully and effectively not only in sports, games and exercises but also in all active life situations. 4. To raise the standard of sports in IITs and to work for the development of character and values through sports among the students of the IITs. 5. To discuss matters related to the organization of the sports and other such activities as may be supportive to the aims and objectives of the Inter IIT Sports Meet, as mentioned above. 6. The Sports Meet shall be conducted in accordance with the provisions, which are formulated from time to time. II. INTER IIT SPORTS BOARD The Sports Board shall be constituted for the purpose of effective supervision of the Inter IIT Sports Meet. The headquarters of the Sports Board will be located at that particular IIT where the Inter IIT Sports Meet is going to be organized that year. The Sports 4 Gymkhana Sports, 5

4 Board is constituted with the membership as follows: 1. The Director of the host IIT is the Chairman of the Sports Board. 2. One faculty member in-charge of sports from each IIT. 3. One senior staff member from the Physical Education Staff of each IIT. 4. One student General Secretary (sports)/sports Secretary from each IIT. The faculty member of the host IIT shall be the Convener of the sports meet. Member of the Physical Education Staff(s) of the host IIT shall be the organizing Secretaries of the Sports Meet. The Chairman of the Sports Board shall preside over all Sports Board s meetings. In his absence, the convener of Sports Board shall occupy the chair and conduct the proceedings of the meetings. The minutes of all the meetings shall be recorded and circulated amongst the members of all IITs immediately after each meeting. The quorum for conduction of the Sports Board meeting shall be a minimum of 8/16 th of the total members of the Sports Board. All proceedings shall be decided by a majority of votes. In case of a tie, the Chairman or his nominee shall decide the issue. The Sports Board of the Inter IIT Sports Meet may co-opt any individual in an advisory capacity, if needed, to be a member on ad-hoc basis, without any voting right. The Sports Board shall meet at the host IIT, as soon as possible, after the academic session begins for the year of conduct of the Inter IIT Sports Meet. The Board shall have 2 more mandatory meetings, one on the day preceding the inauguration ofthe Sports Meet and the other before the closing ceremony. Additional meetings shall be convened as desired by the Board. In pursuance of the responsibilities vested in the Board, it will have the following specific powers in conduction of the Sports Meet. 1. To co-ordinate the Sports Meet, finalize the dates and to draws & fixture of themeet. 2. Addition or deletion of any event. 3. To amend, modify, formulate or remove the Inter IIT Sports Meet rules with majority of votes among the members present. 4. Apart from above mentioned powers, the board will be the final authority to decide any matters arising during the Sports Meet and its decisions shall be binding on all the matters. 5. To discuss the matters related to the organization of sports and to promote other such activities that may be conducive to the aims and objectives of the Inter IIT Sports Meet. 6. All the competitions will be conducted as per the federation rules for each game and sport implemented by Indian Federation till August 10 th. III. ELIGIBILITY All bonafide full time students of all IITs, who will be getting a degree/diploma from the concerned IIT, shall be eligible to participate. A consolidated list of the contingent members, attested as bonafide students by the Dean of Students Affairs/ Registrar of concerned IIT, should be submitted to the convener of the meet before its commencement. The total strength of the individual IIT Sports contingent strength is fixed to be 162. Out of 162 students for regular event the number of women should be 39 with the number of men being 123 as shown in Table 1. 6 Gymkhana Sports, 7

5 Table 1 Strength Men Women Total The above strength may be increased or decreased by the Sports Board depending upon the requirements of the Inter IIT Sports meet. IV. Playing kits (except tracksuit) should be of the allotted colours. All the participating IITs should issue tracksuits to their contingents which should have the monograms at the front and the name of the concerned IIT at the back. All the contingent members should wear this tracksuit during the march-past and Awards ceremony. V. SCHEDULE AND DRAWS The host IIT shall run all the events in accordance with the schedule of date and time as approved by the Sports Board. The participating IIT contingent list will be sent to the Organizing Secretary well in advance, to ensure a smooth and organized conduction of the Meet as per the decided schedule. The Winners and Runners-Up will be referred to as W, R1, R2 and R3 in order of the position acquired by the teams in their particular sport held during the previous Sports Meet. The pools for the remaining teams would be decided by drawing lots for individual games during the first Board Meeting. If one team withdraws its entry from the pool of 4 teams, no redraw of fixture will be done. In all other cases of withdrawal of one or more teams redrawing will be done and the previous fixture will be considered as null and void. The Organizing committee reserves the right to alternate scheduled program under unusual circumstances. VI. TOURNAMENTS Separate General Championships will be awarded to men and women. The men and women events and the corresponding points are given in the Table 3. 8 Gymkhana Sports, 9

The points secured by each IIT in various events for men and women will be added separately. The IIT securing the highest points in the men event will be awarded the general championship for men and likewise for women. In case of a tie for over all championship, the team having the most number of first positions (Gold) in team events will be taken into account for deciding the tie for first place in Overall Championship and so on. Apart from the above mentioned events, there will be March Past, whose points would count to both the Men & the Women General Championship as shown in Table 4. Rules/ Regulations that are adopted by the Federation of all games and sports events up to the first Sports Board meeting and approved by the Inter IIT Sports Board will be strictly followed in that particular year s Inter IIT Sports Meet. Amendments taking place after the first Sports Board meeting shall be followed only from the subsequent Inter IIT Sports Meet. VII. TROPHIES AND CERTIFICATES All the trophies of the Inter IIT tournament will be running (rolling) trophies and a stocklist of trophies available for award shall be maintained by the Sports Board and printed as an annexure from time to time in the handbook of competition rules for the Inter IIT Sports Meet. (See Annexure 1).

7 In team games, trophies (winners, runners 1 and 2 only), certificates of merit and medals shall be awarded to the winners, the runners up and the second runners up of each game, signed by the Chairman, the Convener and the Organizing Secretary of the Inter IIT Sports Board. In individual events like athletics, weightlifting, swimming, etc. merit certificates and medals shall be awarded up to the 3 rd positions. In case of athletics (B&G) and swimming (B&G), best athlete/ swimmer certificates and trophy will be awarded, while for the weightlifting best weightlifter certificate shall be awarded. No IIT shall award certificates of its own to any of its participants in the Inter IIT Sports Meet. Only the Inter IIT Sports Board is authorized to award certificates of Merit.The logo of Inter IIT Sports Meet must be used in medals and certificates. VIII. OFFICIALS FOR THE MEET The organizing IIT will be responsible for selecting competent umpires/referees whose decisions on all points of fact shall be final and binding. The panel of umpires/referees shall be drawn up by the host IIT well in advance. Only qualified Association/ Federation referees and umpires shall be appointed to supervise the Inter IIT Sports Meet. In case of non-availability of Association Umpires, the Organizing Secretary shall have the power to appoint suitable officials. In case of athletics, as far as possible, all the officials of the Inter IIT Athletics Meet should be FTO / AFI qualified officials. If that is not possible, for any reason, at least chief referee shall invariably be FTO/ AFI qualified (Referees for Throws, Jumps, and Track Events). IX. CONDUCT / PROTEST For all games and sports, the decision of the referees and the umpires will be final and binding. No protests would be entertained. Therefore, any team leaving the field of play as a mark of protest and conceding a walk -over shall be deemed to have lost the fixture and will be eliminated from rest of the event. Only the remaining teams will be considered as participating in that event. Protest against the decision of an umpire/referee on a point of rule and any other protest in connection with the concerned match / events shall be given in writing addressed to the Jury of Appeal along with a protest fee of Rs The written protest must reach the Organizing Secretary of the host institute within an hour of the conclusion of the concerned game duly signed by the competent authority of that particular IIT. In case of event being conducted outside the IIT Premises, the protest in writing shall be handed over to the Organizing Committee within an hour of arrival. A team/competitor shall be permitted a grace of 15 minutes from the schedule timing of the event and then a walk-over shall be awarded unless genuine reasons are presented and accepted by the Board. X. DISRUPTION/POSTPONEMENT Any event abandoned or disrupted due to unavoidable reasons shall be postponed or continued, as the case may be, and as per rules specified in the particular events. In case where the Federation/Association rules cannot be implemented, the decision will be left to the Board whose ruling shall be final. 12 Gymkhana Sports, 13

8 XI. EXPENSES Each IIT shall bear the travelling, incidental and boarding and lodging expenses of its own teams. The host IIT shall provide the boarding and lodging facilities for visiting teams. Medical: The host IIT will provide first aid, and take care of the injured contingent for further treatment during any emergency, but the actual bill of treatment hospitals outside will be borne by the respective IIT. In this connection a caution deposit of 1.5 lakhs has to be paid. If medical expenses go beyond 1.5 lakhs then the concerned IIT will settle the amount against the loan given by host IIT. XII. GENERAL RULES a) The total strength of the Inter IIT contingent per IIT is fixed as follows: Total contingent size per IIT: 162 as shown in table 1. Any common player in aquatics meet and in main meet will be counted only as one. b) The Board, in its first meeting will decide about the equipment to be used for the Inter IIT Sports Meet. The equipment approved in the previous meet will be followed as much as possible under normal circumstances. c) The order of events / fixtures will be fixed and notified well in advance to all participating IITs. d) Host IIT will be providing the latest federation rule book of all the games at the Control room so that any member can refer the same. e) It will be the responsibility of the Board to provide the latest changes in rules and regulations during the first Inter IIT Sports Board Meeting. f) The host IIT will be issuing empty accreditation cards in advance to all the visiting teams. The accreditation card has to be filled by the sports section with the participant s photo, which should be endorsed by the Dean of Students of the respective institute. This card, duly signed, should be sent to the organizing IIT before the team(s) arrives at the host institution. The host IIT will also be providing a list of participants of all IITs to the officials / referee who are conducting the particular events. g) Maximum of 9 sports officials (PTIs and part-time coaches) are allowed to accompany the Inter IIT contingent, however, individual IIT will be responsible for the conduct of these coaches during the Meet. The presence of a permanent staff member is compulsory. h) It is compulsory for all contingent members to be present during the March Past. Non-compliance of the same will lead to disciplinary action by the Inter IIT Sports Board and its decision will be binding for all contingent members. i) If needed, the rule book of Inter IIT Sports Meet will be upgraded every five years. j) In order to avoid doping issues, the urine samples of the athletes and weight lifter would be collected before and after the events for dope test. A panel of referees will judge the performance based on performance for testing the sample on doubt. In such cases, all the expenses have to be borne by the respective IITs. The player will be disqualified for ever if the results are found positive and disciplinary action would be taken against the player. In addition, the 14 Gymkhana Sports, 15

9 team from the particular IIT would be banned for three years including the current one. XIII. ATHLETICS a) The competition shall be conducted under the International Athletics Federation Rules as adopted from time to time by AFI unless otherwise modified in these rules. b) Except for relay races, any IIT will not be entitled to enter more than three competitors plus one reserve player per event. For relay races, apart from the four runners entry of only two reserves per event shall be accepted. c) As far as possible, changes, if any, should be intimated fifteen minutes before the start of the event. Lots for lanes will be drawn as soon as the first call is given. d) In a standard track of eight lanes, distribution of lanes and qualifying to subsequence round will be done as per standard rules for 100m, 200m, 400m run. e) An athlete can participate in a maximum of five events, excluding relays. f) The competition in the following event as shown in the Table-5 for both men and women will be held. The corresponding points for Athletics Championship are also indicated in the Table 5. Table 5 Sl. 10 5 Long Jump High Jump Shotput Discus Throw x 100m relay g) In case of a tie for an individual event, points will be shared by both athletes and their respective IITs as shown in Table 6. In case of relay events the points will be double as the relay events have double weightage. Table-7 Table-8 Positions Tied for Men II No. of Tied teams I II III Positions Tied for Women II No. of tied teams I III III II III i) The sum total of points secured in all the events in athletics by an IIT will determine 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd positions as a whole. j) If an athlete, after qualifying in heats, does not participate in the finals without giving a valid reason, as per AFI rules, he/she may be debarred from the competition and will not be considered for best athlete. k) Best athletes will be decided by the maximum number of medals obtained by an athlete in the athletics championship. l) Certificates will be awarded to the first three places in all the athletics events. XIV. BADMINTON A. The competition shall be conducted under the International Badminton Federation rules as adopted from time to time by the Badminton Association of India, unless otherwise modified. B. The tournament for men and women section will be conducted on the lines of Inter State Badminton Championship. Ties for men and women will be separately decided according to the pattern given below. C. The tie for men shall be decided by the combined result of 3 singles and 2 doubles and for women by the results of 2 singles and one doubles. Result of a tie, however, can be declared when either of the competing teams wins 3 matches in men s section and 2 matches in the women s section. 18 Gymkhana Sports, 19

11 D. Result (Men and Women) of best of three sets (each set of 21 points). E. The order of events shall be as follows: MEN: First Singles/Second Singles/First Doubles/Third Singles/Second Doubles WOMEN: First Singles/Doubles /Second Singles F. Number of players: MEN: The number of players representing any IIT in a team can be a maximum of 5 members. WOMEN: The number of players representing any IIT in a team can be a maximum of 3 members. G. Tie will be resolved by successively applying the following criteria: 1. Individual matches won/individual matches lost. 2. Games won by the team/games lost by the team. 3. Points for/points against. The tally for all the matches played in the league fixture will be considered. XV. BASKETBALL a) The tournament will be conducted according to the International Basketball Federation Rules as adopted from time to time by the Indian Basketball Federation unless otherwise modified. b) The number of players representing any IIT will not be more than 12 in case of men and not more than 12 certificates be awarded to a team. c) The number of players representing any IIT will not be more than 11 in case of women and not more than 11 certificates will be awarded to a team. d) During matches if the score is same after the end of the scheduled time, Basketball Federation Rules will be applied, i.e. the game shall continue with as many extra periods of 5 minutes as is necessary to break the tie. e) On completion of the league matches, if two or more teams are on same points, then the tie shall be resolved as follows: i) If two teams are tied, head-to-head wins among the teams will be considered to break the tie. ii) If more than two teams are equal in placing, a second classification will be established, taking into account only the results of the games between the teams that have tied. iii) If there are still teams tied alter the second classification, the basket average will be used to determine the placing, taking into account only the results of the games between the teams that tied. iv) If there are still teams tied, the placing will be determined using the goal average from the results of all their games played in the group. XVI. CRICKET a) Matches shall be played according to the ICC rules in force, as adopted from time to time by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, unless otherwise modified. b) All the matches will be conducted on league cum knock out basis and each side is allowed to complete 20 overs unless the opposing team is dismissed earlier. 12 can bowl a maximum of 4 overs. The semi-finals and finals also will be of 20 overs. c) The bowling team is given 2 hours to complete its quota of 20 overs. The penalty for every short over will be decided by the all captains prior to the meet. d) No spike shoes will be used by the players. e) The cricket captains should discuss the rules and regulations for the conduct of the cricket matches and should submit the report before the first Sports Board meeting during the Main Meet. The Board Meeting should discuss and approve the plan that will be implemented. f) If there is a tie, the team having the better run rate shall be considered for deciding placing. g) The umpires are empowered to rearrange the number of overs by each side in the event of a delayed start or if play is suspended. The number of overs for the team batting second will not be reduced if the team batting first has been dismissed in fewer than agreed number of overs. h) Each IIT shall submit a list of players not exceeding sixteen who may participate in the tournament. Not more than 16 certificates shall be awarded to a team. i) Rules regarding the postponement of cricket match due to rain When rain affects play during the innings of the first team itself, the match will be continued, from where it has been discontinued. The umpires will decide whether the ground is fit for play or not. When rain affects the play during the innings of the second team batting and if the team batting second has not yet batted for half the number of overs, the match will be manned as in i. If the team batting second has batted for more than half the overs and if further play is not possible on the same day, the winner is decided to be the team with better scoring rate at the particular point where and when the second team stopped batting. XVII. FOOTBALL a) Matches shall be played according to the rules of FIFA as adopted from time to time by the All India Football Federation unless otherwise modified. b) The duration of each match shall be 70 minutes ( ). During the league stage, after the expiry of play-time, if the tie still persists, the points shall be shared equally. c) Every IIT should submit a list of players, not exceeding 16, who may participate in the tournament. Not more than 16 certificates shall be awarded to a team. d) No extra time will be given in knockout stage of football matches even if the match is drawn. There will be direct penalty shootout to decide the winner. e) The yellow cards given during the league stages would not be counted in knock out stages. f) A team will be awarded 3 points for a win, 1 for draw, and zero for a lost match. g) In case of tie, goal differences (i.e. Goals FOR minus Goals AGAINST) of all the matches played by the team shall be considered. If the tie still persists, the number of goals FOR throughout the tournament shall be considered: If tie still persists, number of goals AGAINST throughout the tournament shall be considered. 22 Gymkhana Sports, 23

13 XVIII. HOCKEY a) Matches shall be played according to the rules of the FIH as adopted from time to time by the Indian Hockey Federation unless otherwise modified. b) The duration of each match shall be 70 minutes ( ). The matches shall be played on league cum knock out basis. During league stage, after the expiry of playtime, if tie still persists, the points will be shared equally. c) Every IIT shall submit a list of players, not exceeding 16, who may participate in the tournament. Not more than 16 certificates shall be awarded to a team. d) No extra time will be given in knockout stage of hockey matches even if the match is drawn. There will be no penalty shootout; only 8 second rule will be followed to decide the winner. e) In the 8 second rule, 5 chances shall be given to each team to score a goal starting from the 25 yard line within a span of 8 seconds. If a tie still exists after the given five chances, then there will be sudden death. f) The yellow cards given during the league stages would not be counted in knock out stages. g) A team will be awarded 3 points for a win, 1 for draw, and zero for a lost match. h) In case of a tie according to the points, goal differences, (i.e. Goals FOR minus Goals AGAINST ) of all the matches played by the team in tie shall be considered. If the tie still persists, the number of goals FOR throughout the tournament will be considered. If still the tie persists, numbers of goals AGAINST throughout the tournament will be considered. i) Self-goals will be not counted as goals against the FIH rules i.e. (if the ball touches or is played by a player of the defending team in the shooting circle, and then travels over the goal line without first leaving the circle, then it will be counted as an own goal against the defending team) XIX. SQUASH a) The rules of the squash Racket Federation of India as adopted from time to time shall be followed unless otherwise modified. b) Every IIT should submit a list of players not exceeding 04. Not more than 04 certificates shall be awarded to a team. c) The matches will be played on league cum knockout basis. All the matches shall be played following a best of 5 sets format. d) Scoring will be according to 11 points game. e) Player taking a turn has to call and then turn, otherwise the shot would not be considered legal. XX. SWIMMING a) Swimming competition shall be conducted under FINA rules adopted time to time by the Swimming Federation of India unless otherwise modified in these rules. b) The following events, as mentioned in the Table-9a & 9b, for both men and women will be held. The corresponding points of each event for Swimming Championship are also indicated in the table. 24 Gymkhana Sports, 25

For relay races, not more than 1 entry of four with 2 reserves per event shall be allowed. d) If possible no two participants of the same IIT shall participate in the same Heat. e) A swimmer can participate in a maximum of 5 (five) events except relays. f) If a swimmer, after qualifying in heats, does not participate in finals, without any valid reason, he may be debarred from the competition / not considered for best swimmer. g) If any non-participating student enters the swimming pool during competition, the swimmers of the concerned IIT will be disqualified from that event. h) In case of a tie for an individual event, points will be shared by both swimmers & IIT s as shown in Table10. In case of relay event, the point will be double as the relay events have double weightage. 15 j) The sum total of points secured by an IIT will decide the first, the second and the third position. k) Best Swimmer award for both Male and Female will be decided by the maximum points obtained by a swimmer in the Swimming Championship. l) Certificates shall be awarded to the first three places in all swimming events. XXI. TABLE TENNIS a) The rules of the tournament of the International Table Tennis Federation as adopted from time to time by the Table Tennis Federation of India shall apply unless otherwise modified. b) Men: Matches will be held on the basis of five singles. c) The order of play shall be as follows i) Three players on one side are numbered A, B and C and the three players on the other side are numbered X, Y and Z. a. A > X b. B > Y c. C > Z ii) Order of play shall be: 1. A vs. X 2. B vs. Y 3. C vs. Z 4. A vs. Y 5. B vs. X d) The result of the tie shall be declared when either of the team wins three matches. The number of players representing any IIT shall not be less than three or more than four. Only four certificates shall be awarded to a winning team. e) Each single shall be played on best of five games basis with each game of 11 points. f) Women: Matches will be held on the basis of two singles and one doubles. i) The order of play shall be as follows: First Match : A vs. X Second Match : Third Match : B vs. Y Doubles match ii) A, B and X, Y shall be determined by a draw of lots. The result of the match shall be declared when either of the team wins 2 matches. g) Each match will be played following a best of five games format, based with each game of 11 points. h) The number of players representing an IIT shall not be less than two or more than three. i) Not more than three certificates will be awarded to a team. j) Tie will be resolved by successfully applying the following criteria. 1. 16 k) The score standings, when the match is decided, shall be considered for the calculations indicated above. The tally for all matches played among the tied teams in the league fixture will be considered. XXII. TENNIS a) The rules of the International Tennis Federation as adopted from time to time by the All India Lawn Tennis Association shall apply, unless otherwise modified. Each match shall be played following a best of three sets format. The match will be played on the following sequence first singles, doubles and second singles. The two singles players on one side are named A & B and two singles players on the otherside are named X & Y. b) The order of play shall be 1st Match : A vs. X 2nd Match : Doubles Match 3rdMatch : B vs. Y c) Players playing at A, B, X and Y will be submitted by the captain before the start of the match. d) To win a team has to win 2 out of three matches, if a team wins first 2 matches then the third match won t be played and the result will be declared. e) Each match will be best of three sets; tie break will be played for the first 2 sets and no tie break for the third and final set. (tie break of 7 points) f) Tie will be resolved by successfully applying the following criteria. 1. Individual Matches won/individual Matches lost. 2. Sets won by the Team/Sets lost by the team. 3. Points for /Points Against-set score to be taken. g) The score standings, when the match is decided, shall be considered for the calculations indicated above. h) The number of players representing an IIT shall not be less than two and not more than four. Not more than four certificates will be awarded to a team. i) The general rules for Tennis (Women) are the same. The sequence followed would be first singles, doubles and second singles. The selected players for the matches will be submitted by the captain before the start of the match. XXIII. VOLLEYBALL a) The rules of the International Volleyball Federation [FIVB) as adopted from time to time by the Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) shall be followed unless otherwise modified. b) Every IIT shall submit a list of players, not exceeding 12. Not more than 12 certificates shall be awarded to a team. c) The tournament shall be played on league cum knockout basis. All the matches shall be played on the best of 5 sets. d) The following points system will be followed for the matches played on league basis. 1. Match won : 3 points 2. Match lost : 0 point 3. Technical forfeit : 1 point e) Any team refusing to play a match without proper justification will be eliminated from the competition and the results of the matches already played will be cancelled. 30 Gymkhana Sports, 31

17 f) In case of teams having equal points the following equation will determine the ranking. EXAMPLE: C = A/B A Team A-Total number of sets won 11 9 B-Total number of sets lost 4 3 C-Ratio of set B team is 11/4=2.75 9/3 = 3.0 having highest ratio 3.0 B Team The team with higher ratio C will be ranked higher. If the tie still remains, then the following system will be applied. A Team A-Total number of winning points B-Total number of lost points Z = A/B 120/90= /125=0.72 B Team The team with higher ratio Z will be ranked higher. If the tie still remains then the following procedure will be adopted. Two teams involved: precedence will be given to the team winning that match, in which they played against each other. In no circumstances extra match will be played to determine which team ranked higher. The tally of all matches played in the league fixture will be considered. The general rules for Volleyball (Women) are the same. The game will be best of three sets. XXIV. WATER POLO a) The competitions shall be conducted under FINA as adopted from time to time by Swimming Federation Indian unless otherwise modified. b) Each IIT will submit a list of players, not exceeding 11 (7 playing + 4 reserves), who may participate in the meet. Not more than 11 certificates will be awarded to a team. c) A team will be awarded 3 points for a win, 1 for draw and 0 points for a lost match. d) As per SFI rules the total goals FOR minus the total Goals AGAINST of all the matches played by the team in the league matches shall decide the tie during league matches. XXV. WEIGHT LIFTING a) The competition shall be conducted under the International Weight Lifting Federation Rules as adopted from time to time by the Weightlifting Federation of India, unless otherwise modified. b) The competitions in the following weight class as shown in the Table 12 will be held. The corresponding points of each event for Weightlifting Championship are indicated in the table. 18 c) Each IIT will be allowed to enter two competitors for each weight class. The competition for a weight class will be held even if there is only one competitor. d) Each IIT will be submitting a complete team list (2 participants) of participants with the weight category in which they will be participating before the weighing in on the first day, irrespective of whether the competition for that weight category is being held on that day or not. Best Lifter: A separate prize will be awarded to the best lifter on the basis of the following formula: Let X be the weight of the lifter Let a be the weight lifted by snatch Let b be the weight lifted by jerk Then k = (a + b) - 2X Best Lifter: The lifter with the highest k. In case of tie for Weightlifting Championship, the team winning maximum number of gold medals will be awarded the Championship. If tie still persists, the team winning maximum number of silvers will be awarded championship and so on. The progression after every successful attempt for the same weightlifter must be a minimum of 1 kilogram. Certificate shall be awarded to the first three places in all weightlifting events. Best Physique: The competition shall be conducted in accordance with the rules adopted from time to time by the Indian Body Building Federation. This event will not carry points for the General Championship. The winner will be awarded Mr. Inter IIT title with a prize and a scroll. As taking of drugs, to enhance the performance, is banned universally, it will also be followed strictly in the inter IIT meet. If any student is found guilty, he will be debarred from the competition, and awarded medal will be taken back. The coach of respective event will also be punished. Hence the participants may be asked to submit an undertaking. The Competitors should wear only position slips and no oil or grease should be applied to the body at any stage. XXVI. DISCIPLINARY RULES 1. A disciplinary committee will be constituted by the Sports Board consisting of at least one person from each IIT and the decision of this committee will be binding on all IITs. 2. The responsibilities of this committee will be to look after and maintain discipline during Inter IIT Sports Meet. In case of any unruly dissent or gesture against theconducting officials, the concerned IIT shall be warned by the board. In case offurther violation, the particular team ofthe concerned IIT will be debarred from the Inter IIT Meet. 3. Unruly behaviour of the student members of any IIT contingent shall be generally dealt with suitable punishment/ debarring etc. 4. No members, including the Board members, will be allowed inside the playing arena/track during the meet. 5. Each IIT will nominate one Sports Board member for the disciplinary committee. 6. Any point not directly covered by these rules, shall be decided in the light of the rules most nearly applicable and in accordance with the general tenor and the spirit of the said rules. 34 Gymkhana Sports, 35
