2 CEA-grower Installation Guide Before using this product, read the End User License Agreement. You must agree to this License Agreement before using this product. AgrowSoft nor any of its suppliers are responsible for any losses or damages caused by the use of this product. READ ALL Documentation (End User License, Installation Guide, Owner s Manual) BEFORE using your system. Thank you for choosing CEA-grower. CEA-grower is designed to be simple to install. For those growers with limited time or resources, AgrowSoft does provide onsite installation and setup services. Most growers install the CEA-grower line of systems themselves. This guide will take you through the steps necessary to get CEA-grower running in your environment. Version This installation guide provides instructions for installing version This version is a Fodder Watering controller and provides 14 zones of irrigation for watering two groups (or racks) of 7 troughs. Each of the 14 zones of irrigation has its own on time as a user defined interval in seconds based on a 7 day growing cycle. The system also provides a manual irrigation cycle in which the user can start an irrigation cycle anytime. Stand Alone Install The system does not require a router or internet connection to function. This will be referred to as a Stand Alone Install in this guide. The system is shipped with initial system settings. All of the settings are user defined and can be modified using the LCD screen and the navigation buttons below the screen. Step 1: Verify Shipping Contents This system is shipped with an End User Agreement, an Installation Guide (this document), an Owner s Manual, the controller enclosure, and a power supply with 110v input and 12v output. Step 2: Determine Locations Choose a location for your controller. Ideally, the controller should be ease to access, be close to your electrical service area for the growing environment, installed vertically not horizontally, and located inside the growing environment. The preferred location for the controller enclosure should be out of direct sunlight and in as cool, dry as possible area in your growing environment. For outside/greenhouse installations - on the north side, facing north, behind equipment for shading (such as heaters) is optimal for the controller in outside structures or greenhouses. If this is not possible, east (morning sun) is better than west (afternoon sun) preferably shaded by some equipment. It is important that the enclosure is not in direct sunlight. The micro processor has thermal protection and will shut down if the temperature inside the enclosure becomes too warm. Shade cloth can be used to shade the enclosure as well.

3 Step 3 : Mount and Install the Controller Enclosure NOTE: Do not modify the enclosure in anyway or mount anything to it, inside of it, or on the outside of the enclosure doing so will void the warrantee. Remounting or moving the micro processor and relay board into another enclosure will also void the warrantee. Mount the controller enclosure as per recommendations in step 2. Step 4 Remove the controller Cover Unscrew the cover and remove. Step 5: Power Supply IMPORTANT: Before connecting the power supply for the first time, NOTHING should be connected to ANY of the relay switches. You will install wiring to the relays as one of the LAST steps. Controller Power Supply Connection Connect the power plug of the controller power supply to the jack labeled Controller Power Supply on the controller. Plug the power supply into a standard 110v receptacle. The LCD displays the version and serial number and then begins in a Status: Running. Step 6: Connect Relay Switches Relay switches and anything electrical related should be set up by a certified electrical technician. Electricians will know how to wire the system so that it compiles with all state and local building codes. AgrowSoft is simply providing switches and assumes no liability for installation, damages, or losses from electrical malfunctions. Install and Connect Solenoid Valves (Not Included) Danger: Risk of Electrical shock - Make sure all power is off to the sensors, controllers, and electrically controlled equipment before connecting any relay switches to any electrically powered device. The controller is acting solely as a switching mechanism. Solenoid valves will need there own source of power. Irrigation solenoids can either be 120v or use a 24v transformer. A 24v power transformer should be mounted close to but not inside the controller enclosure; MOUNT IN A SEPARATE ENCLOSURE. Mounting a transformer inside the enclosure will void the warrantee. The relays on the controller can switch either 24v AC/DC or 120v AC. Wiring 120v AC Solenoids (Not Included) Power can come from a standard wall socket or panel box with 120v power. One wire will be broken (usually the white). Each side of the white wire will be connected to the normally open terminals on each relay. Use a meter set the contact position to determine the normally open terminals on the relays. Double check this on each side of the relay board banks to insure you are using the normally open terminals. The relay is the switch that closes the connection on the 2 white wires. Each solenoid will have one white wire and one black wire. Each solenoid will have its own set of wires. Do not connect solenoids together as this may short the relay board this will void the warrantee. Wiring 24v Solenoids (Not Included) Power comes from a 24v transformer (not included). The transformer is mounted in a separate enclosure. Connect the white wire from the transformer to a power bar mounted inside the transformer enclosure.

4 Do not mount the power bar inside the controller enclosure. Run a white wire from the power bar through conduit to a relay terminal. Use a meter set the contact position to determine the normally open terminals on the relays. Double check this on each side of the relay board banks to insure you are using the normally open terminals. Run another white wire from the other relay terminal connector to the white side of the solenoid. Use another power bar mounted in the transformer enclosure. Connect the black wire from the transformer to the second power bar. Run a black wire to each solenoid. Each solenoid will have one black wire and one white wire. Never loop wires between relays this will void the warrantee. Do not connect solenoids together as this may short the relay board this will void the warrantee. Below is a diagram for one relay.

5 Below is a diagram for wiring multiple relays from the single 24v power source. Note: There is no backup for irrigation valves within the system. Best practices dictate that you have a means of visually monitoring irrigation amounts each day. AgrowSoft recommends having an extra emitter on each zone that fills into a measured catch container. Monitor this container periodically to make sure the proper amount of irrigation occurs for each zone. Manual Override Wire irrigation solenoid valves such that in the event of a relay failure, they can be simply plugged in with direct power. Ideally, all equipment would have a standard electrical plug. This plug is plugged into the power circuit that is switched by the relays. If any part of the relay circuit fails, the equipment can be unplugged from the relay circuit and plugged into a direct power source to turn the equipment on manually.

6 DO NOT EXCEED the 10amp limit on the relays! For electrical devices that require more any more than 5amps, AgrowSoft recommends using additional 10, 20 or 30 amp relays. Fans or other high powered equipment WILL require a separate manual relay (not included). Connect CEA-grower Relay Switches Danger: Risk of Electrical shock - Make sure all power is off to the sensors, controllers, and electrically controlled equipment before connecting any relay switches to any electrically powered device. The CEA-grower relay switches are found inside the controller enclosure. CEA-grower relay switches are found on the top of the board. Relays 1-8 are found on the left side with relay 1 being on the top farthest away from the microprocessor. Relays 9-14 are found on the right side with relay 9 being on the bottom closest to the microprocessor. Relays can be set up as normally open or normally closed. For most all applications, you will set the relays up as normally open. Each relay has 3 connectors for wires. As a guide for selecting the correct 2 connectors for normally open operation, with the enclosure mounted upright (with the microprocessor on the bottom), they will be the top 2 of 3 connectors on the left side (relays 1 thru 8) and the bottom 2 of 3 connectors on the right (relays 9 thru 16). The BEST and most sure method of choosing the correct 2 connectors is by using a meter set to the contact setting. Relay Mappings for CEA-grower Version R refers to the rack or group of troughs. Relay 1- R1, Zone Not used 2- R1, Zone Not used 3- R1, Zone R2, Zone 7 4- R1, Zone R2, Zone 6 5- R1, Zone R2, Zone 5 6- R1, Zone R2, Zone 4 7- R1, Zone R2, Zone 3 8- R2, Zone 1 9- R2, Zone 2 Before you connect any equipment, double check the relay mappings. Make sure you connect the equipment up to the proper switch number. AGAIN DO NOT EXCEED the 10amp limit on the relays! Most installations have the CEA-grower controller relay switch wires mount into an electrical box. There are holes drilled in the enclosure box for conduit connectors. Be sure to have your electrician comply with all state and local building codes for wiring and electrical installation procedures. Step 7: Relay Switch Test Recommended: POWER UP SEQUENCE 1 st )Power (breakers) to equipment on 2 nd )Power to CEA-grower controller on Turn the power on to your equipment. Turn the power on the controller by plugging the power supply into a 110v power socket.

7 After the start up screen completes, press the DOWN button. At the prompt that asks IRRIGATE NOW?, press the SELECT button. This will start the irrigation cycle. You should see and hear the relays turn on and your solenoid valves should receive power and open. If you have any questions or problems, or call Step 8: Run/Control the Environment Stand Alone Install Once all the relays are controlling the equipment properly, you can adjust the user defined settings to your growing preferences. Once you are happy with your settings, put the cover back on the enclosure. Refer to the Owner s Manual for more details on settings. Your system is now installed and complete! 9 END-USER LICENSE AGREEMENT FOR AgrowSoft CEA-grower READ ALL Documentation (End User License, Installation Guide, Owner s Manual) BEFORE using your system. IMPORTANT--READ CAREFULLY: This AgrowSoft End-User License Agreement ("EULA") is a legal agreement between you (either an individual or a single entity) and AgrowSoft for the AgrowSoft software product identified above, which includes microprocessor software, hardware, cabling, controllers, sensors and may include associated media, printed materials, and "online" or electronic documentation ("SOFTWARE PRODUCT"). By installing, or otherwise using the SOFTWARE PRODUCT, you agree to be bound by the terms of this EULA. If you do not agree to the terms of this EULA, do not install or use the SOFTWARE PRODUCT; you may, however, return it to your place of purchase for a full refund less shipping. SOFTWARE PRODUCT LICENSE The SOFTWARE PRODUCT is protected by copyright laws and international copyright treaties, as well as other intellectual property laws and treaties. The SOFTWARE PRODUCT is licensed, not sold. 1. GRANT OF LICENSE. This EULA grants you the following rights: a. Software Product. AgrowSoft grants to you as an individual, a personal, nonexclusive license to use the SOFTWARE for the sole purpose of controlling environments. If you are an entity, AgrowSoft grants you the right to designate one individual within your organization to have the right to use the SOFTWARE in the manner provided above. b. Documents. Solely with respect to paper or electronic documents included with the SOFTWARE, you may make an unlimited number of copies (either in hardcopy or electronic form), provided that such copies shall be used only for internal purposes and are not republished or distributed to any third party. 2. DESCRIPTION OF OTHER RIGHTS AND LIMITATIONS. a. Not for Resale Software. You may not resell, or otherwise transfer for value, the SOFTWARE PRODUCT. b. Limitations on Reverse Engineering, Decompilation, and Disassembly. You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the SOFTWARE PRODUCT, except and only to the extent that such activity is expressly permitted by

10 applicable law notwithstanding this limitation. c. Separation of Components. The SOFTWARE PRODUCT is licensed as a single product. Its component parts may not be separated for use on more than one controller. d. Rental. You may not rent, lease, or lend the SOFTWARE PRODUCT. e. Support Services. AgrowSoft may provide you with support services related to the SOFTWARE PRODUCT ("Support Services"). Use of Support Services is governed by the AgrowSoft policies and programs described in the user manual, "online" documentation, and/or other AgrowSoft-provided materials. Any supplemental software code provided to you as part of the Support Services shall be considered part of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT and subject to the terms and conditions of this EULA. With respect to technical information you provide to AgrowSoft as part of the Support Services, AgrowSoft may use such information for its business purposes, including for product support and development. AgrowSoft will not utilize such technical information in a form that personally identifies you. f. Software Transfer. You may permanently transfer all of your rights under this EULA, provided you retain no copies, you transfer all of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT (including all component parts, the media and printed materials, any upgrades, this EULA, and, if applicable, the Certificate of Authenticity), and the recipient agrees to the terms of this EULA. If the SOFTWARE PRODUCT is an upgrade, any transfer must include all prior versions of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT. g. Termination. Without prejudice to any other rights, AgrowSoft may terminate this EULA if you fail to comply with the terms and conditions of this EULA. In such event, you must destroy all copies of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT and all of its component parts. 3. UPGRADES. If the SOFTWARE PRODUCT is labeled as an upgrade, you must be properly licensed to use a product identified by AgrowSoft as being eligible for the upgrade in order to use the SOFTWARE PRODUCT. A SOFTWARE PRODUCT labeled as an upgrade replaces and/or supplements the product that formed the basis for your eligibility for the upgrade. You may use the resulting upgraded product only in accordance with the terms of this EULA. If the SOFTWARE PRODUCT is an upgrade of a component of a package of software programs that you licensed as a single product, the SOFTWARE PRODUCT may be used and transferred only as part of that single product package and may not be separated for use on more than one computer. 4. COPYRIGHT. All title and copyrights in and to the SOFTWARE PRODUCT (including but not limited to any images, photographs, animations, video, audio,

11 music, text, html code, and "applets" incorporated into the SOFTWARE PRODUCT), the accompanying printed materials, and any copies of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT are owned by AgrowSoft or its suppliers. The SOFTWARE PRODUCT is protected by copyright laws and international treaty provisions. Therefore, you must treat the SOFTWARE PRODUCT like any other copyrighted material You may not copy the printed materials accompanying the SOFTWARE PRODUCT. 5. U.S. GOVERNMENT RESTRICTED RIGHTS. The SOFTWARE PRODUCT and documentation are provided with RESTRICTED RIGHTS. Use, duplication, or disclosure by the Government is subject to restrictions as set forth in subparagraph (c)(1)(ii) of the Rights in Technical Data and Computer Software clause at DFARS or subparagraphs (c)(1) and (2) of the Commercial Computer Software- Restricted Rights at 48 CFR ,as applicable. 7. EXPORT RESTRICTIONS. You agree that neither you nor your customers intend to or will, directly or indirectly, export or transmit (i) the SOFTWARE or related documentation and technical data or (ii) your software product as described in Section 1(d) of this EULA (or any part thereof), or process, or service that is the direct product of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT, to any country to which such export or transmission is restricted by any applicable U.S. regulation or statute, without the prior written consent, if required, of the Bureau of Export Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce, or such other governmental entity as may have jurisdiction over such export or transmission. MISCELLANEOUS If you acquired this product in the United States, this EULA is governed by the laws of the State of New York. If you acquired this product in Canada, this EULA is governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada. Each of the parties hereto irrevocably attorns to the jurisdiction of the courts of the Province of Ontario and further agrees to commence any litigation which may arise hereunder in the courts located in the Judicial District of York, Province of Ontario. If this product was acquired outside the United States, then local law may apply. Should you have any questions concerning this EULA, or if you desire to contact AgrowSoft for any reason, please contact the AgrowSoft subsidiary serving your country, or write: AgrowSoft 2001 Hawleyton Road, Binghamton, NY LIMITED WARRANTY LIMITED WARRANTY. AgrowSoft warrants that (a) the SOFTWARE PRODUCT will perform substantially in accordance with the accompanying written materials for a period

12 of thirty (30) days from the date of receipt, and (b) any Support Services provided by AgrowSoft shall be substantially as described in applicable written materials provided to you by AgrowSoft, and AgrowSoft support engineers will make commercially reasonable efforts to solve any problem issues. Some states and jurisdictions do not allow limitations on duration of an implied warranty, so the above limitation may not apply to you. To the extent allowed by applicable law, implied warranties on the SOFTWARE PRODUCT, if any, are limited to thirty (30) days. AgrowSoft does not warrant that this SOFTWARE PRODUCT works in all types of environments all the time. CUSTOMER REMEDIES. AgrowSoft's and its suppliers' entire liability and your exclusive remedy shall be, at AgrowSoft's option, either (a) return of the price paid, if any, or (b) repair or replacement of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT that does not meet AgrowSoft's Limited Warranty and that is returned to AgrowSoft with a copy of your receipt. This Limited Warranty is void if failure of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT has resulted from accident, abuse, or misapplication. Any replacement SOFTWARE PRODUCT will be warranted for the remainder of the original warranty period or thirty (30) days, whichever is longer. Outside the United States, neither these remedies nor any product support services offered by AgrowSoft are available without proof of purchase from an authorized international source. NO OTHER WARRANTIES. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, AGROWSOFT AND ITS SUPPLIERS DISCLAIM ALL OTHER WARRANTIES AND CONDITIONS, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, IMPLIED WARRANTIES OFMERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT, WITH REGARD TO THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT, AND THE PROVISION OF OR FAILURE TO PROVIDE SUPPORT SERVICES. THIS LIMITED WARRANTY GIVES YOU SPECIFIC LEGAL RIGHTS. YOU MAY HAVE OTHERS, WHICH VARY FROM STATE/JURISDICTION TO STATE/JURISDICTION. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL AGROWSOFT OR ITS SUPPLIERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, INDIRECT, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES WHATSOEVER (INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, DAMAGES FOR PERSONAL INJURY, LOSS OF BUSINESS PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS OF BUSINESS INFORMATION, OR ANY OTHER PECUNIARY LOSS) ARISING OUT OF THE USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT OR THE PROVISION OF OR FAILURE TO PROVIDE SUPPORT SERVICES, EVEN IF AGROWSOFT HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. IN ANY CASE, AGROWSOFT'S ENTIRE LIABILITY UNDER ANY PROVISION OF THIS EULA SHALL BE LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT ACTUALLY PAID BY YOU FOR THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT OR US$5.00; PROVIDED, HOWEVER,

13 IF YOU HAVE ENTERED INTO A AGROWSOFT SUPPORT SERVICES AGREEMENT, AGROWSOFT'S ENTIRE LIABILITY REGARDING SUPPORT SERVICES SHALL BE GOVERNED BY THE TERMS OF THAT AGREEMENT. BECAUSE SOME STATES AND JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF LIABILITY, THE ABOVE LIMITATION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
