4 YMCA SUMMER DAY CAMPS PROGRAM GUIDE 2016 Physical Literacy and YMCA Programs When children acquire and practice fundamental movement and sport skills at a young age they are more likely to stay active and maintain healthy habits. The YMCA Staff leading these programs are trained in the High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development. Aligned with the Canadian Sport for Life s LongTerm Athlete Development Framework (CS4L LTAD), all YMCA programs provide children and youth the opportunity to practice and improve their physical literacy skills, develop movement confidence and the skills to be Active for Life.

5 ymca.woodbuffalo.org It s All About the Value Beads... At YMCA Day Camp, value beads play an important role as a sign of character and personal achievement. As a form of recognition, beads at camp promote positive behaviour, and are worn as a constant reminder of what we value as a camp community. Throughout the week, beads are awarded to individuals for demonstrating the YMCA core values of friendship, caring, honesty, diversity, social inclusion, responsibility, respect, leadership and excellence. At YMCA Day Camp kids play outdoors! Spending time outdoors is essential to every child s development, health and well-being. It builds a connection to our rich natural and cultural heritage.
