30 April 2015 Northgate Patient Dear Northgate Patient, Northgate Surgery is moving to Cross Keys House, 14 Haslett Avenue West on 1 June 2015 We are writing to update you on our plans to improve the services we provide to patients attending Northgate Surgery. As you may already know, we have been considering the best way to improve the care and support we can offer you, by relocating Northgate Surgery to new premises at Cross Keys House in the centre of town, around 10 to 15 minutes walk from the existing surgery. Because of the limited space available within our existing and ageing surgery building in Woolborough Road we can no longer provide the quality of services we would wish for our patients. The existing building does not meet current Care Quality Commission (CQC) premises standards. By moving to Cross Keys House we will be able to deliver more services to you in a much better environment and this will help us meet the needs of all our patients, both now and in the future. Over the last few months we have been inviting you to share your views on our plans and we are very grateful to everyone who took the time to share their feedback with us, including contributing to a patient survey and attending an open day at Cross Keys House. You told us that you wanted the practice to enhance and expand the services it offers. Moving Northgate Surgery into new premises will allow us to do this. The feedback we have received has been taken into consideration in reaching the final decision that relocating services to Cross Keys House is the best way to improve services and to make sure we can continue to provide you with high quality care. NHS England has agreed to the relocation having considered all the issues and how we have taken your views in to consideration. They are satisfied that we have taken the necessary actions to make sure all patients, including those with particular health needs, will be able to continue to attend the practice and to use the services available from the new surgery premises. We have provided information in the attached sheet about the issues you raised and said were important to you. Saxonbrook Medical is a team of skilled people aiming to provide quality healthcare to our local communities in a welcoming environment. Partners: Dr Geraint Thomas, Dr Ian Anderson, Dr Hicham Nakouzi Saxonbrook Medical Centre, Maidenbower Square, Maidenbower, West Sussex, RH10 7QH Tel: , Fax: , admin.saxonbrook@nhs.net,
We are now pleased to announce that we will be relocating Northgate Surgery to the 1 st Floor of Cross Keys House, 14 Haslett Avenue West, Crawley, RH10 1HS on 1 June This is also the first day we will be seeing patients in our new premises. The new surgery is located next to the existing Crawley Health Centre. The telephone and fax numbers to contact the surgery will remain the same. We will also be maintaining our current opening hours at the present time, but we are looking to extend them in the future. The practice staff will remain the same and you will continue to receive the best care from your GP and dedicated surgery team. Further details about the move and how to get to the surgery are in the attached information sheet. Please keep an eye on our website ( and when you visit the practice for more details of the move. We think the relocation of Northgate Surgery is a positive step for Saxonbrook Medical Practice, and especially for our patients, who will experience significant long-term improvements to services as a result of the move. The new premises will enable us to continue to provide care to you for years to come. It will also mean we can develop new services on site for our Northgate patients, including minor surgery and extended opening hours. We look forward to seeing you at our new surgery. Yours faithfully, Dr G Thomas Dr I Anderson Dr H Nakouzi Partners, Saxonbrook Medical. P.S. We would also like to take this opportunity to ask whether we have your current contact details. Do you have a mobile phone or an address? You can update your contact details via our website or by completing a form available at reception. Page 2
Information for patients about our move to Cross Keys House 1. How can I make an appointment at the new surgery? The way you can book an appointment at the surgery will not change. Our surgery telephone number at Cross Keys House will also remain the same If you have an appointment booked with Northgate Surgery which is due to take place on 1 June, or at any time after this, the appointment will now take place at our new surgery premises in Cross Keys House. You do not need to re-book the appointment. If you can no longer make your appointment for any reason, please contact a member of reception staff as soon as possible. 2. Where is the new surgery? The new Northgate Surgery premises will be on the first floor of Cross Keys House, 14 Haslett Avenue West, Crawley, RH10 1HS, adjacent to Crawley Health Centre. Cross Keys House is the south of Northgate ward and around 10 to 15 minutes walk from the existing Northgate Surgery premises, located adjacent to the Crawley Central Bus Station and close to the County Mall. A map showing where the new surgery premises is located is below. Map data Google Page 3
3. How can I get to the new surgery? The town centre is a public transport hub and Cross Keys House, where the surgery is moving to, is located adjacent to Crawley Central Bus Station and a taxi rank. Information about the local bus routes serving the area is available via the Crawley Borough Council website at The new surgery is about 10 to 15 minutes walk from the existing Northgate Surgery premises. See information below about parking. 4. What parking is available at Cross Keys House? There are various parking options available to patients within the town centre including: Cross Keys car park (adjacent to Evans Cycles), The Broadway car park (upper level and lower level entrance adjacent to St. Catherine s Hospice shop), and Parkside car park (adjacent to The Memorial Gardens). The practice also runs another surgery in Maidenbower with free parking available at the front of this surgery. The practice is able to offer its Northgate patients appointments there if patients are reliant on getting to the surgery by car. 5. Is disabled parking available? There are 13 disabled parking spaces which are clearly marked located adjacent to Cross Keys House. The closest disabled spaces can be found on The Broadway. A map showing disabled parking bays in Crawley town centre is available on the Crawley Borough Council website at Roads_and_Transport/parking/ 6. Is there a drop off point available outside Cross Keys House? The drop-off point for access to Cross Keys House is currently a short walk 25 yards from the entrance if you come by car or bus, and right outside if you use the taxi rank. Patients can also request appointments at our Maidenbower Surgery, where they can be dropped off directly outside the front door. 7. What if I can t get to the surgery? Any housebound patients who need home visits for their medical care will continue to receive these. Page 4
8. What happens if the lift at Cross Keys House breaks down? We are doing our utmost to ensure the lift at Cross Keys House is always working and we have a contract in place to make sure the lift is maintained to the highest possible standard. In the rare event that the lift was not working and you were unable to access Cross Keys House because of difficulty climbing the stairs we would be happy to arrange an appointment for you at our Maidenbower Surgery, on the ground floor. We will also make sure there are clear instructions in the lift about how to operate it. 9. How will I be able to order a repeat prescription from the new surgery? Patients on long term medication can order repeat prescriptions in a number of ways and this will continue to be the case. You can do this: Through a local chemist - who you can then also collect your completed prescription from (ask reception staff for further details). In person drop your repeat slip in at reception (we will also be establishing a secure drop-off facility at the rear of Cross Keys House that you can use when the surgery is closed and will provide further information about this in due course). By post send it to us with a stamped addressed envelope if you want us to post it back to you. From 1 June 2015, you will need to use the following address: Saxonbrook Medical, Northgate Surgery, Cross Keys House, 14 Haslett Avenue West, Crawley, RH10 1HS. By fax on / to script.saxonbrook@nhs.net (N.B. we do not reply to prescription s). Online in the first instance, please come into the surgery reception, register for the on-line service with the receptionist, and you will be provided with log-in details. Page 5
10. Why are you moving the surgery now? Our lease for the existing Northgate Surgery building runs out imminently. We need to improve the facilities we have available for patient care and moving to the new site at this point will allow us to achieve this as soon as possible and guarantee uninterrupted treatment for our patients. The combination of the lease expiring, together with the need to improve and expand our facilities to our patients, meant that this was an opportune time to relocate to a bigger building. 11. Are staff at the surgery changing? No. Our team of staff at the practice will remain the same and you will continue to receive care from our existing doctors and wider surgery team. 12. How will the new premises at Cross Keys House be better? Will there be a loss of any existing services you provide from the current surgery? What additional services will you provide? There will be no loss of services in terms of the care we are able to provide at our new surgery premises and the move will allow us to expand services for patients. We will be providing extended opening hours and access to additional services such as minor surgery from the new surgery premises in the future. We will provide further information about this in due course. The new consulting rooms and treatment rooms at Cross Keys House are significantly bigger than those within our existing surgery building, and fully comply with NHS standards. The consulting rooms at the new surgery premises have lots of natural light, and the treatment rooms have a state of the art infection control airflow system, which will improve the environment within which we can delivery care to you.
