Failure to follow these instructions can result in a failure to initiate alarm conditions. Bosch Security Systems, Inc. is not responsible for improperly installed, tested, or maintained devices. Follow these instructions to avoid personal injury and damage to the equipment. NOTICE! Inform the operator and the local authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) before installing the B420 in an existing system. Disconnect all power to the control panel before installing the B420. Before installing the B420, refer to Section 1.4 Technical Specifications, page 7 Use the Conettix B420 Network Interface Module for bi-directional communication over an Ethernet network. 12 12 en Configuration Ethernet Communication Module 3 Configuration 3.1 Configuring for SDI2 Control Panels (GV4 Only) NOTICE! Modules permit Panel Programming by default. For field replacements, when you connect the replacement module, GV4 Series control panels with non-factory settings override the B420 settings. To keep custom B420 settings when you connect a module to a GV4 control panel, you must disable Panel Programming Address-only Configuration for SDI2 Control Panels You can quickly configure this device by setting the device s address switch to 1 or 2, and then connecting it to the control panel. You can use address-only configuration when an SDI2 control panel is programmed with proper network settings, and Panel Programming is enabled in the B420 Panel Programming configuration web pages (refer to Section 3.11 Maintenance Page, page 22). Panel Programming is enabled by default to allow for easy field installation and replacement. Address-only Configuration Conditions SDI2-compatible control panels can automatically configure a new module. 1. Ensure the B420 is new, or defaulted to the factory settings. 2. Set the module s address switch to the correct SDI2 address for the control panel. 3. Program the control panel with the desired settings. 4. Connect the module to the control panel bus and apply power. The control panel stores the B420 settings and automatically programs a defaulted B420 when connected. To override automatic module programming, use the web configuration to set the Panel Programming Enable parameter to NO before installing Web-based Configuration for SDI2 Control Panels Once Panel Programming is disabled, you can use web-based configuration - the B420 Configuration Pages - to configure B420 modules. To use this feature, you must know the module s hostname or IP address. Refer to Section 3.3 Determining a Module s Hostname or IP Address, page 13, and then follow the instructions in Section 3.4 Accessing the B420 Configuration Pages, page 14 through Section 3.14 Exiting the Configuration Web Page, page 26. NOTICE! You cannot access the configuration web pages for a B420 if the module is connected to a GV4 Series control panel and the Web Access Enable option is set to No. No is the default value for GV4 Series control panels. To re-enable Web Access to the B420, use RPS or the control panel keypad while the device is connected. 3.2 Configuring for SDI or Option Bus Control Panels Address-only Configuration for SDI or Option Control Panels You can quickly and easily configure this device by simply setting the device s address switch to the address for a compatible control panel, and then connecting it to that control panel s bus. 13 Ethernet Communication Module Configuration en 13 The following alarm communication and supervision conditions are met: Control panel is programmed for network communication to your Central Station DHCP is available on your network AES Encryption is not required Defaulted B420 access settings are permitted by the network administrator The following remote control panel programming conditions are met: UPnP is enabled on the network router for automatic port mapping UDP traffic on port 7700 is enabled Web-based Configuration for SDI2 or Option Bus Control Panels You can use web-based configuration - B420 configuration Pages - to configure B420 modules. To use this feature, you must know the module s hostname or IP address. Refer to Section 3.3 Determining a Module s Hostname or IP Address, page 13, and then follow the instructions in Section 3.4 Accessing the B420 Configuration Pages, page 14 through Section 3.14 Exiting the Configuration Web Page, page Determining a Module s Hostname or IP Address To log into the B420 Configuration Pages, you must obtain the IP address assigned to the B420 or use the module s hostname. To obtain the IP address, use the appropriate method described below based on the B420 installation Determining a Module s Hostname The factory default configuration of the B420 allows the DHCP server to assign an IP address and a hostname. A default hostname based on the MAC address is registered with the DNS server if the module has not been programmed for a specific hostname (refer to Section Module Hostname, page 23). You can use the hostname for modules configured for dynamic DHCP or static IP addresses. Hostnames cannot be used when connecting directly using Auto IP (refer to Section Using Auto IP with a Directly Connected Module, page 14). The default hostname for the B420 is the letter B followed by the last six alpha-numeric digits of its MAC address (for example, B3f603f) Using a GV4 Series Keypad to Discover the IP Address of a Module If the B420 is connected to a GV4 Series Control Panel, you can use a connected keypad to look up the IP address. Finding the B420 s IP address using a keypad (D1260 instructions): 1. On the keypad, press [99] [ENTER]. 2. Press the Next softkey repeatedly to navigate to the Tools Menu option. 3. Press the Tools Menu softkey. The keypad instructs you to enter the installer passcode. 4. Enter the passcode and press [ENTER]. The Tools Menu opens. 5. Press the Next softkey repeatedly to navigate to the IP Diagnostics option. 6. Press the corresponding soft button to enter the IP Diagnostics option. 7. At the B420 Module 1-2 option, enter the number for the B420 module for which you want to review the settings, and press [ENTER]. 8. Press [ENTER] at the Settings option. The keypad shows the Hostname. 9. Press the Next soft button. The keypad shows the MAC ID. 10. Press the Next soft button. The keypad shows the IP address assigned to the module. 11. Press the Exit soft button when finished reviewing the settings Using DHCP to Look Up the IP Address of a Network-connected Module If the B420 is connected to a network, a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server assigns the IP address to the B420. 14 14 en Configuration Ethernet Communication Module Looking up the B420 s IP address on the DHCP server: 1. Log into the DHCP server. 2. Locate the IP address table on the DHCP server. 3. Use the MAC address assigned to the B420 (indicated on the label on the Ethernet RJ-45 port), to find the IP address assigned to the B Using Auto IP with a Directly Connected Module If the B420 is connected directly to a computer (laptop or PC) and is not connected to a network (no network hub, router, or switch is connected), you can use the B420 s Auto IP feature to assign a static IP address to the B420. NOTICE! Before trying the Auto IP option, ensure that the web browser is not configured to use a proxy server. Refer to the browser s online help for instructions on disabling proxy service. If the B420 s IP address is not recorded in the host computer s ARP table and you do not know the address, set the rotary switch to the 0 position, cycle the power to the module, and then follow the steps below. Using the AutoIP feature: 1. Direct connect the B420 to the Ethernet port on a computer and wait 60 sec. 2. Open an internet browser (Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or higher, or Mozilla Firefox 3 or higher) and type in the default Auto IP address for the B420: Enter the default password: "B42V2" and click Login. The Device Information page opens. Refer to Section 3.5 Device Information (Home) Page, page 15 for more information. If Auto IP does not work on the host computer, a new registry key might be required to enable Auto IP. Be sure to obtain permission from your company IT department before changing the registry. To enable Auto IP on the host computer with a new registry key: 1. Open Notepad and create a new file called AutoIP.reg. 2. In Noteplad, include the following text: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters] "IPAutoconfigurationEnabled"=dword: Save the file to a location on the host computer that you can easily find. 4. Navigate to the saved file and double-click on it to add it to the host computer s registry. 5. Restart the host computer. 3.4 Accessing the B420 Configuration Pages You can use the module s IP address or its hostname (unless directly connected using AutoIP), to access the B420 Configuration Pages. Refer to Section 3.3 Determining a Module s Hostname or IP Address, page 13 if you do not know the IP address or the hostname. 1. Open an internet browser (Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or higher, or Mozilla Firefox 3 or higher) and type in the B420 s IP address as the URL or type in the module hostname. 2. In the address bar, enter the B420 s IP address or hostname as the URL (for example, or F01U Installation and Operation Guide Bosch Security Systems, Inc.

15 Ethernet Communication Module Configuration en 15 By NOTICE! The factory default configuration of the B420 allows the DHCP and DNS servers to assign an IP address and a DNS hostname. A default hostname based on the MAC address is used if the module has not been programmed for a specific hostname (refer to Section Module Hostname, page 23). You can use this method for modules configured for dynamic DHCP or static IP addresses, but not when directly connected using Auto IP. The default hostname for the B420 is the letter B followed by the last six digits of its MAC address. 3. The B420 s login page opens. Refer to Figure 3.1. Figure 3.1 B420 Login Page 4. Enter the default password: "B42V2" and click Login. The Device Information page opens. Refer to Section 3.5 Device Information (Home) Page, page 15 for more information. NOTICE! It is recommended to change your password after completing Step 4 for security of the module configuration. The Web Login Password can be changed from the Maintenance page as described in Section Device Information (Home) Page The Device Information page shows basic information for the B420 in its main pane, and provides links to the configuration web pages along the left-hand side. 16 16 en Configuration Ethernet Communication Module Figure 3.2 B420 Device Information Page Refer to the following sections for descriptions of the configuration web pages. 3.6 Changing and Saving Settings Using the Web The settings for the B420 are grouped by topic in the left column of the web interface in a B420 menu structure. Refer to Figure 3.2, Page 16. Some settings (menu options) might be unavailable if: The setting conflicts with another configured setting (for example, the Static IP setting is unavailable when DHCP is enabled) The setting conflicts with a the address setting (for example: the Panel Address setting is read-only if the address switch is set to anything but 0) The setting is unavailable in the current product release Saving Settings Using the Web To preserve edited values, click the OK button on each page before navigating to a different setting page (menu). To save all edited values and apply them to the module, click the Save and Execute link. 3.7 Basic Network Settings Page Figure 3.3 shows the Basic Network Setting web page. DHCP/AutoIP Enable Default: Selection: Yes No DHCP is an auto configuration protocol that allows a computer to be automatically configured, which eliminates the need for interaction by a network administrator. DHCP also provides a central database that tracks computers that connect to the network, which prevents two computers from accidentally being configured with the same IP address. AutoIP enables dynamic IP addresses to be assigned to a device when the device is started up. Whereas DHCP requires a DHCP server, AutoIP does not require a server when selecting an IP address. A host configured with AutoIP receives an IP address of xxx.xxx. Open an internet browser (Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or higher, or Mozilla Firefox 2 or higher) and type in the B420 s hostname or IP address as the URL (for example, ). Static IP Address An Internet Protocol (IP) address is a numerical label that is assigned to devices participating in a computer network that uses the Internet Protocol for communication between its nodes. When DHCP/AutoIP Enable is set to Yes, this parameter cannot be changed. 18 18 en Configuration Ethernet Communication Module Subnetting is used to break the network into smaller, more efficient subnets to prevent excessive rates of Ethernet packet collision in a large network. A significant feature of subnetting is the subnet mask. Applying a subnet mask to an IP address allows you to identify the network and node parts of the address. When DHCP/AutoIP Enable is set to Yes, this parameter cannot be changed. Default Gateway Default: Selection: to A gateway is a node (typically a router) on a TCP/IP network that serves as an access point to another network. A host uses a default gateway when an IP packet's destination address belongs to someplace outside the local subnet. The default gateway address is usually an interface belonging to the LAN's border router. In DHCP mode, the default gateway is usually resolved automatically. When DHCP/AutoIP Enable is set to Yes, this parameter cannot be changed. DNS Server IP Address Default: Selection: to A Domain Name Server (DNS) converts internet domain names or hostnames to their corresponding IP addresses. This setting is used to configure a DNS server address in Static IP mode. In DHCP mode, the default value of indicates the DHCP server s default DNS will be used. To use a custom DNS server in DHCP mode, change the parameter to the specified DNS server s IP address. Local Port Default: 7700 Selection: 0 to This option sets the local port number that the module listens for in-coming network traffic. Figure 3.4 Advanced Network Setting Web Page Legacy Panel Mode Default: 0 (Disable) Selection: 0 or 1 0 Legacy Panel Mode is disabled 1 Legacy Panel Mode is enabled This option allows the B420 to support legacy control panels that communicate using Datagram Mode 0. When Legacy Panel Mode is enabled, the B420 uses the Local Port parameter as both the source port and destination port for communication. The control panels that use Legacy Panel Mode are: GV2 Series v7.05 and lower G Series v6.99 and lower DS7400XiV4 Port 77EE Configuration Enable Default: Selection: Yes No Port number 77EE (hexadecimal code) is reserved for configuration of the B420 by the remote application software. HTTP Port Number Default: 80 Selection: 1 to No Yes or No The network configuration port is enabled. The remote application software can configure the B420 through this port. The network configuration port is disabled. The remote application software cannot configure the B420 through this port. Use this option to configure the port number for the B420 web server. 20 20 en Configuration Ethernet Communication Module ARP Cache Timeout Default: 600 Selection: 1 to 600 (in 1-sec increments) When the B420 communicates with any device on a network, an entry is added to its ARP table for each of those devices. The ARP Cache Timeout defines the number of seconds (1 to 600) before the ARP table of the B420 is refreshed. 3.9 Panel Address Setting Page NOTICE! The Panel Address Setting option only works when the address rotary switch on the B420 is set to 0 (local configuration setting). Refer to Figure 1.2, Page 6 for the location of the address rotary switch. Figure 3.5 shows the Panel Settings web page. Figure 3.6 Encryption Setting Web Page AES Encryption Enable Default: Selection: Yes No Use this option to enable or disable AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) encryption on the B420. AES Key Size Default: 128 Selection: 1 or 128 No Yes or No All communication through the network module is encrypted. AES encryption must also be set at the central station receiver and the PC running RPS. All communication through the network module is unencrypted. Use this option to select the AES key size. Changing the key size from the default of 128 is not supported in this version. AES Key String/Encryption Keys Configure the AES Key Strings as ID numbers in Remote Programming Software (RPS) using the Encryption Key tab of the System Configuration dialog box. Default: Selection: Thirty-two hexadecimal characters represented by an ID (1 to 100) Enter the encryption key using 32 hexadecimal characters. Bosch Security Systems, Inc. Enable or disable the ability to upgrade the B420 s firmware from the Firmware Upgrade configuration page. Module Hostname Default: Blank 1 Selection: Sixty-four alphanumeric characters 1 Blank restores the default hostname Bxxxxxx, whereas xxxxxx is the last six digits of the module s MAC address. Use this parameter to create or change a module hostname. This is the hostname that represents the module on the network. The hostname can be used to contact the control panel via RPS over network, or for the purposes of web configuration and diagnostics of the module. Click Cancel to cancel the factory default reset. If you select Yes, all configuration options are returned to the factory default settings. NOTICE! Returning the B420 to its factory default settings might cause the B420 to terminate the current web browsing session. If connected to a compatible SDI2 control panel with Panel Programming setting enabled, the control panel overwrites the factory default settings with the control panel's settings. To avoid the control panel settings overwriting Configuration Pages settings, set Panel Programming Enable to No after restoring the module to factory default, but before pressing Save and Execute. 25 Ethernet Communication Module Configuration en Firmware Upgrade Page To upgrade the firmware in the B420, select the Firmware Upgrade option from the configuration home page. A new web page opens that allows you to locate the firmware file and upload it to the B420. NOTICE! 27 Ethernet Communication Module Maintenance and Troubleshooting LEDs en 27 4 Maintenance and Troubleshooting LEDs The B420 provides the following on-board LEDs to assist with troubleshooting issues: System status (refer to Table 4.1) Serial communication (data bus) (refer to Table 4.2) Ethernet communication (refer to Table 4.3 and Figure 4.1) Refer to Figure 1.2, Page 6 for the location the LEDs. Flash Rate Function Flashes once every 1 sec Normal State: Indicates normal operation state. 3 quick flashes every 1 sec Communication Error State: Indicates a bus communication error. ON Steady Trouble State: Indicates a trouble condition exists. OFF Steady LED Trouble State: Module is not powered, or some other trouble condition prohibits the module from controlling the Heartbeat LED. OFF for 3 sec, then flash Firmware Version: For example, if the version is 3.2.1, the firmware version* LED pulses 3 times and pauses for 1 sec, pulses 2 times and pauses for 1 sec, and then pulses 1 time. After pulsing the Firmware version, the Heartbeat LED stays OFF for 3 sec before indicating the module state. * On power up, the Heartbeat LED stays OFF for 3 sec before indicating the Firmware version. The LED pulses the major, minor, and micro digits of the firmware version, with a 1 sec pause after each digit.
