6 REGIONAL PRIORITIES - To develop innovative regional policies in close collaboration with the health sector and R&D, in order to promote the life at home and discourage institutionalisation of elderly and people with disabilities - To foster synergies by bringing together the main public and private actors active in housing and ageing-related fields - To finance the functioning of a regional network, through Regional and European funds ( ), on the following topics: 1. Telehealth, Smart homes and AAL 2. Housing and living spaces 3. Social innovation

7 RECENT EXPERIENCES ON INNOVATION IN WELFARE SYSTEM Regional Laboratory on Accessibility, Domotics and Quality of Life Housing & independent living Social Innovation (PPP and community welfare) ICT The Lab, started as a project, is now officially established by a Regional Act.* The Lab involves public and private partners (PA, SMEs, R&D) and is consistent with EIP European Innovation Partnership principles and with the Europe 2020 strategy. The Lab supports the internationalition of regional policies on health and social inclusion (networks, participation to fairs and International workshops, project proposal, etc..). A catalogue of services and products of the Laboratory partners is currently being edited. * FVG Region Health and Social Services Regional Plan , through the Local Health Authority n.5 that acts on Region s authority with its Operational Plan 2011)

8 EXPERIMENTATIONS (1) PRESTO A CASA / BACK HOME Innovative model of temporary domiciles for users with sub-acute physical and sensory disabilities Two public-owned flats, equipped with automation technologies, technical furniture, special design and building solutions so as to facilitate access and make all spaces usable to persons whose autonomy is suddenly limited to any extent. The use of training houses is mainly aimed at young and adult people with physical and/or sensory disabilities (usually after serious traumas), who will experiment tools, devices and facilities that can help them, managing and monitoring their activities, house functionalities and interactions with the outside world while fully complying with their requirements in terms of personal safety, environment and house comfort. This experimentation allows to understand what proves to be useful and to select economically viable and technically feasible solutions to be set in place once back home. Partners: the Municipality of Trieste, AREA Science Park and ATER Trieste (Public housing institution) with the support of the Province of Trieste.

9 EXPERIMENTATIONS (2) Objective of the research project: -to demonstrate the innovativeness of kitchen environments integrating domotic technologies and new interface solutions for service delivery from a distance -to promoting the autonomy of elderly people living in their own dwellings in terms of safety and comfort Innovative solutions are worked out starting from the assessment of the needs of a large share of population, made up of elderly people hit by mild cognitive impairment (even if not full-blown). The kitchen environment should be able to recognize the individual at risk, monitor the proper execution of domestic activities (diagnostic environment), support the progressive loss of cognitive functions (prosthetic environment), and stimulate the remaining abilities (therapeutic environment). The different solutions envisaged foresee the activation of a network of services from a distance helpful for families, and ranging from dwelling to building, neighborhood, and city levels in order to encourage socialization. This concept of kitchen is designed on the basis of Universal Design criteria. 10 EXPERIMENTATIONS (3) The project is supported by an integrated system providing vital/environmental parameters monitoring and videoconferencing services and foresees trials in 6 European countries. This system is based on an existing technological platform, designed taking into consideration the requirements of elderly users who have never been exposed to ICT. Networking of two apartments, structured to host new technologies research and validation in Udine and testing of an organizational model for the provision of innovative services using advanced technologies. The project s aim is to develop guidelines and tools for planning the refurbishment of housing units and also at the level of district city (2009). Innovative communication models for citizens about social protection services opportunities. Experimentation of a model that allows for dialogue among stakeholders, including an evaluation of the linkage with the programme Cartella sociale in synergy with ICT platforms.
