1 TMAT Scholarship Fund 2013 Call for Applications TMAT Scholarship Fund has been established by (TMAT) since 1999 with an objective to provide scholarships to selected Taiwanese Canadian students who are currently enrolled in full-time undergraduate and/or graduate studies in Canadian post-secondary institutions, and to reward individuals and groups who actively promote Taiwanese cultural heritage in Canada. The recipients will have to demonstrate academic and professional excellence, as well as showing the will and determination to succeed and contribute to Canadian society. Since its inception, the TMAT Scholarship Fund has been expanding the award categories on an annual basis with the funding mainly contributed by and other corporate or individual donors who share the vision of promoting dedication and achievement in academic and scholarship. A maximum of ten (10) TMAT Scholarships will be offered for the year of 2013 under following two categories: General Academic Scholarships TMAT Science & Engineering Scholarship An amount of $1, to be given to a candidate who best demonstrates excellence in the studies of Science and Engineering TMAT General Academic Scholarship An amount of $1, to be given to a candidate who best demonstrates excellence in the studies of General Academic Subject TMAT Tracy Tay Scholarship An amount of $1, to be given to a candidate who best demonstrates excellence in the studies of Humanities and Social Science TMAT Relaxology Scholarship

2 An amount of $1, to be given to a candidate who demonstrates the Excellence in the studies of Life Science and Fashion Design TMAT Marie Chang Scholarship An amount of $1, to be given to a candidate who demonstrates excellence in studies of Business and Marketing and in need of financial assistance TMAT Sakura Canada Scholarship An amount of $1, to be given to a candidate who demonstrates excellence in the undergraduate studies and in need of financial assistance TMAT Cultural and Community Contribution Fund The Fund has been established by TMAT Scholarship Fund to recognize proven contributions made to Taiwanese Canadian community in culture, arts and performance with financial and scholarship awards to individuals and groups as well as specific programs of universities Four (4) Awards will be offered by TMAT Scholarship Fund for 2013 will be offered for 2013 under this category: TMAT Jean Chen Art Award An amount of $1, to reward individual or group who promote Taiwanese Canadian music and. Performance Art in Canada TMAT Linwood Art Award An amount of $1, to reward individual or group who promote Taiwanese Canadian Literature and Art in Canada TMAT Taiwanese Canadian Scholarship in Management-UTSC An university entrance scholarship of $2, to be offered to a Taiwanese student with academic excellence to enroll in The University of Toronto-Scarborough Campus(UTSC) for undergraduate study of Business Management. The award winner will be recommended by UTSC for presentation by TMAT Scholarship Fund annually to encourage Taiwanese students to study in Canadian universities.

3 TMAT Kuo Hua Cultural and Community Contribution Fund) A Fund of $3, to $6,000 for 5 to 10 scholarships will be dedicated to Exchange Co-Op Program between Humber College and National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism (NKUHT) for both Canadian and Taiwanese students enrolled in the exchange program. The Exchange Program has served as a successful model of community contribution by fostering international cultural exchange between Taiwan and Canada The selection of scholarship winners and the amount to be funded will be recommended by Humber College and NKUHT for presentation by TMAT Scholarship Fund Scholarship Application Requirement Applicants must meet the following conditions: a) Applicants must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants; b) Applicants must be of proven Taiwanese origin; c) Applicants for must have been enrolled in an accredited Canadian college or university for more than one full academic year in either an undergraduate or graduate program, and must provide proof that the applicant will continue further studies. d) TMAT Cultural and Community Fund, with coordination with related academic institutions will be considered and determined annually by the TMAT Scholarship Selection Committee with no formal application requirement. e) In exceptional circumstances, Canadian students regardless of their origins having a special interest in their studies or researches that are relevance to Taiwanese Canadian communities and culture in Canada, may be considered by the TMAT Scholarship Committee for awards. f) In the case that the Committee judges that applicants have equal or similar academic qualifications, preference may be given to those students with demonstrated financial need.

The applicant must provide official academic transcripts from the Registrar s Office of the Institution presently attended. The transcripts must show the results of at least one full year of academic work. 2. Three (3) letters of recommendation from referees in a position to describe and assess the applicant s record and current achievements. A reference letter from a current member of The Taiwan Merchants Association of Toronto may serve as a letter of recommendation. 3. A Curriculum Vitae outlining the applicant s academic, work, professional and personal background. 4. A short essay of a maximum of 500 words stating why he or she deserves to be considered for the Scholarship applied for. 5. Proof of Canadian citizenship or residency and Taiwanese origins, e.g. Birth Certificate, Passports, or Letters of Testimonials, etc. Photocopies of these documents will be acceptable. 6. Applicants are encouraged to submit relevant additional supporting material such as awards, certificates and portfolios, as well as reports, news clips, etc. to better facilitate the review process. 7. Submission no less than two (2) personal photos with university campus background in digital format for committee reference and possible award publicity use. Submission Deadline

At the option of the TMAT Scholarship Committee, personal interviews of applicants may be requested before awards are given. In all cases, the decision of the TMAT Scholarship Committee will be final. Announcement and Presentation of Awards The award winners will be notified on or before February 19, 2012 by phone or .
