4 MOTHER A GREAT INFLUENCE Mothers have a great influence on the lives of their children. Here are some selected quotes from popular figures in history about the Mothers who reared them. 5 The common quality among these famous people was their high regard for their mothers, and that they really listened to their moms. It is something that every mom, like me, wishes for.

6 GOOD MOTHERS ARE NATION S PRIDE *Was not Savitri who got her husband back to life, a woman of India? *Was not Chandramati who by her steadfast adherence to truth put out raging fires, a chaste woman of India? *Was not Sita who demonstrated her purity by entering fire, a daughter of this land? *Was not Damayanti who reduced the wicked hunter to ashes, an exemplary woman of this land? *This land of Bharat surrounded by the seven seas enshrines in its heart the holy principle of chastity and this sacred land is the teacher of all nations!

7 EASWARAMMA THE IDEAL MOTHER The mother of Baba was Easwaramma. She was not a scholar. She did not know even alphabets. Yet, she always spoke good things in life. Her heart was filled with compassion. One day she approached Swami and said, Swami there are so many rich people in this region. Yet, the children of our village have to walk all the way to Bukkapatnam to attend school. My heart grieves to see these little children walk miles. Swami, could you please build a small school in our village? I replied, I don t have money! She immediately removed the gold chain from her neck, gave it to him and said, Swami, please sell it and build a school.

8 EASWARAMMA THE IDEAL MOTHER Baba told her, Don t be hasty, it is only to test you. He said so, I will definitely construct a school. On the following day, the foundation was laid, and within a short period the school building was ready. Then Baba asked her if she was happy. She did not appear completely satisfied. He asked her, What else bothers you? She replied, Swami, when children fall ill, their mothers carry them all the way to Bukkapatnam for medical treatment and things may go wrong on the way. So pls build a small hospital in the village. Thus, she always thought of the welfare and happiness of others. She used to say; It is not enough if these facilities are available only in our village. They must be available to all the villagers around, and everyone should be happy.

9 WHEN GOD CREATED MOTHERS By the time the Lord made mothers, He was into the sixth day of creation and working overtime. An angel appeared and said, Why are you spending so much time on this one? And the Lord answered and said, Have you read the spec sheet on her? She has to be completely washable, but not plastic; have 200 movable parts, all replaceable; run on black coffee and leftovers; have a lap that can hold three children at one time and that disappears when she stands up; have a kiss that can cure anything from a scraped knee to a broken heart; and have six pairs of hands.

10 WHEN GOD CREATED MOTHERS The angel was astounded at the requirements. Six pairs of hands! said the angel. The Lord replied, Oh, it s not the hands that are the big problem. It s the three pairs of eyes that mothers must have! And that s on the standard model? the angel asked. The Lord nodded and explained, Yes one pair of eyes are to see through the closed door as she asked her children what they are doing even though she already knows. Another pair in the back of her head, to see what she needs to know even though no one thinks she can. And the third pair are in the front of her head, for looking at a child with love and saying that she understands and loves him or her without even saying a single word.

11 WHEN GOD CREATED MOTHERS The angel tried to tell the Lord to take a break. This is too much work for one day. Wait until tomorrow to finish. But I can t! The Lord protested. I am so close to finishing this creation that is so close to my own heart. She already heals herself when she is sick AND can feed a family of six on a pound of hamburger and can get a nine year old to stand in the shower.

12 WHEN GOD CREATED MOTHERS The angel moved closer and touched the woman, But you have made her so soft, Lord. She is soft, the Lord agreed, but I have also made her tough. You have no idea what she can endure or accomplish. Will she be able to think? asked the angel. The Lord replied, Not only will she be able to think, she will be able to reason, and negotiate. The angel then noticed something and reached out and touched the woman s cheek. Oops, it looks like you have a leak with this model. I told you that you were putting too much into this one.

13 WHEN GOD CREATED MOTHERS That s not a leak. The Lord said. That s a tear. What s the tear for? the angel asked. The Lord said, The tear is her way of expressing her joy, her sorrow, her disappointment, her pain, her loneliness, her grief, and her pride. The angel was impressed. You are a genius, Lord. You thought of everything for this one. You even created the tear! The Lord looked at the angel and smiled and said, I m afraid you are wrong again, my friend. I created the woman, but she created the tear.

14 BABA S QUOTE Only when there are good mothers and good sons and daughters, will the nation be free from troubles. Otherwise, the nation will break into pieces... What the nation needs today is not material prosperity or high education. It needs men and women of character. - Baba

15 A MOTHER S PRAYER Thank you, dear Lord, for this service you have allotted me bringing up this messenger of your Glory. Give me the wisdom, the earnestness and the faith to guide the footsteps of this child towards your feet, along the footprints you have left on the earth and heaven. Protect me from impurity so that I may not tarnish the purity of the child. Award to me the intelligence to recognize you in every gesture of its hand, in every smile that gleams on its lips, in every throb of its heart, let me adore you in this child, let me serve you in his image of yours, let me be rewarded with your presence in this, your own Divine Essence. - Baba
