2 WELCOME TO TURKU UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENCES Welcome to Finland, the Northeast corner of Europe between the West and the East. Because of its location there are four distinct seasons that all give their own unique flavor. Temperatures can range from -20 o C in winter to +30 o C in summer! Take a chance, the wild but yet very modern country is waiting for you! GENERAL INFORMATION The language of instruction is English, and the courses are Bachelor-level courses. The autumn semester starts at the end of August and ends at the end of December. The spring semester starts at the beginning of January and ends at the end of May. There are no tuition fees. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS We welcome exchange students to study together with Finnish students. The prerequisites for these international studies are a minimum of one year studies at your home university and sufficient knowledge of English language. HOW TO APPLY The application deadline for the autumn semester 2015 is 1st of May 2015 and for the spring semester 2016 is 15th of October 2015 (Non- EU students: 1st of October 2015). Step 1: Contact the international office of your own university for nomination and instructions. Step 2: Apply for TUAS, faculty of Business, ICT and Life Sciences. Our students are given a chance to learn entrepreneurship in various real-life projects. Students study mainly in student-owned co-operatives that conduct real business. Project work is done in co-operation with local companies and organizations and it provides working life competences and valuable contacts. Our teaching and learning methods constantly develop to meet the requirements of working life. Faculty s teaching and training are in line with the international CDIO framework (Conceive- Design-Implement-Operate). This means that activating working life methods as well as linking practical skills and knowledge with theoretical teaching form the core elements of our teaching and learning. Semester courses contain introduction lectures to the course themes, workshops and training sessions, but most of the work and learning is done through project-work. Students seek knowledge actively from various material sources and combine the theory to the practice. Teachers act as mentors and coaches in the learning process. 4 COURSE DESCRIPTIONS SALO CAMPUS BUSINESS SEMESTER Innovation and Project Management ECTS Modern marketing and selling ECTS Creating Business Value through ICT ECTS SALO After completing the course the student can act as a member of a project and project group and understand the dynamics of project work. The student will understand the role of the project manager and apply various group work and innovation techniques. The student will understand the nature of innovations and different types of innovations and also understand the structure of the innovation environment and the roles of its actors. The student will also understand the essentials of R&D and understand the differences between various sources of funding. After completing the course the student can identify the factors in customer behaviour (actor2actor) and plan and implement the marketing of product/service in a customer-oriented way. The student can sell products/ services in a customer-oriented and profitable way and plan a multichannel marketing campaign using digital media. The student can give presentations in a self-assured and convincing way, also in different languages and report in writing and style in a context-based way. The student can also develop the company s marketing and communication plan according to the requirements and also plan and implement marketing and sales campaigns, eventually on international markets. The student exploits modern ICT solutions to communication and team work more effective and is able to make good use of an ERP system in his/her daily work and decision making. The student is able to make basic analyses on the business data and is able to analyze and document business processes and develop processes with the help of ICT solutions. Future Business and systems 5 ECTS After completing the course the student can apply a business model planning method in order to find new business ideas and report the results and can analyse, differentiate, generalise and make conclusions from current business information and present the findings. The student can also apply a scenario method for decision making and also independently develop business further is one of the locations where Turku University of Applied Sciences operates. The city is located about 50 km east from Turku and 110 km west from the capital Helsinki. Salo is a dynamic green city with approx inhabitants. More than half the inhabitants have moved to Salo from other parts of Finland, and many of them are from other countries. In relation to its population Salo is one of the most international cities in Finland. In Salo creative technology, rich culture and lively countryside meet. Here students can find many different activities in sports, culture or nature. International tutors help the exchange students in getting to know the Finnish way of life. Finnish for Exchange Students 3 ECTS This course is aimed for the exchange students. The course is a way to get to know Finnish language and Finnish everyday life. After the course the student understands basic structures of the Finnish language and is able to cope in everyday situations. Get Finternational 3 ECTS This course aims at giving students a wider perspective into the Finnish society, taking part in it more actively, learning how to analyze the adaptation to a foreign culture, learning how to interact with the representatives of different cultures. This course brings together both Finnish and foreign students in a more informal way.
