1 ELLOWES HALL SPORTS COLLEGE Mixed Comprehensive Dudley LEARNING SUPPORT MENTOR Fixed Term Contract 31 st August 2014 Grade 5 Spine Point per hour 28/33 hours per week (May include some evenings) Term Time Only We are seeking to appoint a specialist Learning Mentor to support students with learning difficulties in Mathematics. The successful candidate should have minimum A level mathematics or equivalent. We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate to support our after school activities/clubs, which may increase the contractual weekly hours to 33. In the first instance, this post will be fixed term, although depending on the outcome of a manpower review in spring 2014, the contract may be extended or made permanent. 2 ELLOWES HALL SPORTS COLLEGE RECRUITMENT JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: DEPARTMENT: LEARNING SUPPORT MENTOR INCLUSION FACULTY GRADE: 5 SPINE POINT: WEEKLY HOURS: 28/33 TYPE OF CONTRACT: FIXED TERM REPORTS TO: SENCO/DIRECTOR OF INCLUSION STAFF RESPONSIBLE FOR: NONE MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB: Staff will work under the guidance of teaching staff with a limited degree of autonomy. KEY FEATURES: To implement agreed work/care/support programmes with individuals/groups and support teaching staff in the development and education of students including the provision of detailed and specialist skills/knowledge in particular areas. To assist the teacher in the whole planning cycle and supervise whole classes or groups during the short term absence of a teacher. To provide support/manage extra curricular activities/clubs SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS To make a substantial contribution to Individual Learning Plans and their implementation Use specialist skills and training to support students and help them to access the Mathematics curriculum. Use specialist skills and training to support students with communication and interaction difficulties. Use specialist skills and training to support students with sensory and/or physical impairment. Use specialist skills and training to support students with cognition and learning difficulties.

3 Use specialist skills and training to support the behaviour management of students with behavioural, emotional and social development needs. Provide feedback to students in relation to progress and development. Establish productive working relationships with students acting as a role model and setting high expectations Promote independence and employ strategies to recognise and reward achievement of selfreliance. Provide pastoral support to students Promote the effective transfer of students across phases/integration of those who have been absent. Liaise with feeder schools and other relevant bodies to gather pupil information. To support the extended schools provision, which may mean working outside normal school hours supporting activities, school trips etc. Assess the needs of students and contribute to the development of IEP s Observe and report on pupil performance Take responsibility for the management of challenging pupil behaviour Provision of pupil information to external agencies Design and produce worksheets or administer coursework with minimal supervision for groups of students Undertake more complex marking of students work in line with school policy Contribute to curriculum planning Contribute to the identification and planning of out of school learning activities Provide support for learning activities by making a contribution to supporting a teacher in the planning and evaluation of learning activities and supporting the delivery of learning activities. Making a contribution to organising effective learning environments and maintaining appropriate records

4 SUPPORT FOR THE SCHOOL To take a full part in promoting the good name of the School and contributing positively to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school Where applicable comply with School Dress Code Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health and safety, security confidentiality and data protection. Attend and participate in meetings as required. Participate in training, other learning activities and performance development as required. Recognise own strengths and areas of expertise and use these to advise and support others. All staff in School will be expected to accept reasonable flexibility in working arrangements and the allocation of duties in pursuance of raising student achievement. Any changes will take account of salary/status/hours and will be subject to discussion, in accordance with the guidance note on contractual changes. 5 EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING: A minimum of A Level Mathematics or equivalent Experience of working with children of relevant age and experience of working with students with additional needs An understanding of national curriculum and other relevant learning programmes An understanding of principles of child development and learning processes Good literacy skills Effective written and oral skills SPECICAL CONDITIONS: There may be confidentiality components to this role and the post holder needs to undertake the duties of this role in a strictly professional and confidential manner.
