This category spans the gamut from basic mail merge-type applications to software for data-driven on-the-fly marketing documents to solutions for complex, high-volume transaction printing environments. Multi-Channel Communications: These applications are used to incorporate customized and personalized content in documents delivered via two or more media channels, including print, , Web (personalized URL or purl), and mobile messaging. Many tools offer tracking and measurement features for live, on-demand management and immediate measurement of campaign success and return on investment (ROI). Production workflow management: These solutions include process management modules and process tracking modules; modules to perform specific prepress tasks such as preflighting, trapping, and imposition. Different solutions can be used for offset, digital, or hybrid offset/digital environments. Digital print controllers and raster image processers (RIPs): These are software applications that convert files in a description language format, such as PostScript, to a format that can be used by a digital print engine to create an image. Print-specific MIS: This category includes solutions that manage print business processes such as estimating, billing, order entry, shipping, purchasing, inventory control, finished goods, and accounting.
