2 ANALYSIS OF HOTEL RULTS JUNE 2015 hoteliers find themselves a place in the sun Particularly dynamic, hotel performance in June reflect a brilliant kickoff to the summer season. For the first time in several years, growth in the Revenue per available room (RevPAR) on the continent approached a double-digit figure with 9.4% growth. This may be accounted for by the 3.3 point growth in arrivals at properties to close in on an occupancy rate of 78.2%. But the 4.8% improvement in daily rate to almost 100 euros also played a major role in the increase in the RevPAR to more than 77 euros. On the period, two hotel categories succeeded in surpassing 10% growth in their RevPAR: the 2* with a 10.0% increase and the 4* with a 10.1% increase. Growth in results for 3* and 5* segments are equally remarkable, with RevPARs up by 8.8% and 8.7% respectively. In June, the hotel industry stands out among all countries studied, most of which posted double-digit growth in their RevPAR. The best results were produced by the Czech Republic, which closed the month with a 24.6% leap in the RevPAR. The destination benefited from several biennial events in Brno. Thanks to the organization of the Diving Championships, calendar effects and several exhibitions that do not take place each year, Germany comes in second. The country posted growth by 22.5% in its RevPAR, due to the 5.9 point increase in its occupancy rate and 13.2% increase in its daily rate; the drop in May was more than compensated. Thanks to their strong price appeal, countries in Southern Europe are also in the lead, with Portugal (+23% of RevPAR) first, followed by Italy (+14.9%) and Spain (+13.3%). The Benelux also stands out with growth in the RevPAR by 19.4% in Luxembourg and by 18.0% in Belgium. Finally, always doing well, Hungary benefited from the organization of the Basketball Championships and was able to post a 11.8% increase in its RevPAR. Solid results in June offer further proof of the dynamism of Europe's hotel industry that has been observed since the beginning of the year. During the first semester 2015, the occupancy rate at hotels on the continent increased by 1.6 points and the daily rate by 2.4 %, giving impetus to the RevPAR to leap up by 4.9% on the period. 10 1 Conventions METHODOLOGY The report presents the results of corporate brand hotels in Europe. The sample consists of a total of more than 6,500 hotels, representing more than 800,000 rooms. The breakdown by segment is as follows: 30% for Budget and Economic hotels, 30% for midscale hotels and 40% for upscale hotels. Hotels are classified according to the hotel star system: from 1* to 5*. The category of corporate chain hotels are allocated individually according to MKG Hospitality s market expertise and reflect the marketing classification in complement to the official rating system(s) of the country (if any).
