CALL TO ORDER Chair, Deputy Mayor Benns called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. II. APPROVAL OF AGENDA AS CIRCULATED Moved by Barry Surerus, seconded by Councillor Latchford; "Be it resolved that the Parks and Recreation Agenda of Thursday, February 27th, 2014, be approved as circulated. III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Parks and Recreation Minutes of Thursday, January 23rd, 2014 Moved by Barry Surerus, seconded by Jim Fell; "Be it resolved that the Parks and Recreation Committee approve the Parks and Recreation Minutes of Thursday, January 23rd, IV. BUSINESS ARISING FROM PREVIOUS MINUTES There was no business arising from previous minutes. V. FINANCIAL REPORTS Year End Financial Report for the Haldimand Arena and Facility as at December 31, Moved by Richard Raymond, seconded by Jim Fell; "Be it resolved that the Financial Statements as circulated dated as at December 31, 2013, be approved. VI. MONTHLY ACTIVITY REPORTS/SCHEDULE OF EVENTS Haldimand Memorial Arena and Park Committee: Mr. Raymond advised that the Committee will be meeting sometime in March Page 3 of 9
4 THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF ALNWICK/HALDIMAND PARKS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE OF THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 27, :30 AM Roseneath Recreation Committee: Mr. Fell advised that this Committee will be having their next meeting in April Mr. Fell noted that the Anglican Church Group will be holding a weekly Children's lunch at the Alnwick Civic Centre and that only clarification required was pertaining to the insurance coverage. Roseneath Revitalization Committee: Mr. Surerus advised that the Committee will be having their first meeting of the year in April 2014, as well. Centreton Park and Playground Committee: Vice Chair, Councillor Latchford inquired as to the requirements of the Energy Audit and what items could be completed in this respect. Vice Chair, Councillor Latchford also noted that the Committee has a new member, Ms. Mary Cochrane. The Committee is investigating a "Village Tea" event. It was also noted that there needs to be a maintenance program initiated as the washroom facility equipment is not operating correctly and is in need of repair. Arena Manager's Report: Moved by Jim Fell, seconded by Vice Chair, Councillor Latchford; "Be it resolved that the Arena Manager, David Harnden report dated February 21, 2014, be approved. Part-time Summer Employee: Moved by Vice Chair, Councillor Latchford, seconded by Arena Manager, David Harnden; "Be it resolved that the Parks and Recreation Committee recommend the employment of Mr. Rick Marium at the Haldimand Memorial Arena and Ball Park Facility for part-time employment for the 2014 Summer Season. VII. POLICY REVIEW ITEMS There were no policies for review at this time. VIII. PROJECTS - CURRENT UPDATES Grass Cutting Tender and proposed purchase of New Mower Moved by Barry Surerus, seconded by Jim Fell; "Be it resolved that the Parks and Recreation Committee recommend that the Arena Manager, David Harnden initiate the process to purchase a commercial grade lawn mower to be utilized for recreational maintenance purposes in the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand. PROJECTIONS/POTENTIAL NEW PROJECTS Mr. Fell noted that there may be an event of project which could be funded through a Trillium Grant. Mr. Fell inquired as to the solar lighting and Mr. Surerus advised that he has not received any documentation from Huntsville. The CAO/Planner, Terry Korotki suggested that Mr. Simon Rowland of Green Life Power may be able to suggest or provide some sort of solar power for the proposed lighting. X. CAPITAL ITEMS/PROJECTS There were capital items or projects for discussion at this time. XI. PUBLIC INQUIRIES There were no public inquiries for review or discussion. XII. NEW BUSINESS FOR FUTURE DISCUSSION Summer Student Moved by Vice Chair, Councillor Latchford, seconded by Arena Manager David Harnden; "Be it resolved that the Parks and Recreation Committee recommend that the Arena Manager, David Harnden work in conjunction with the Municipal Treasury Department to pursue the retention of one (1) Summer Student for the 2014 Summer Season to be utilized for lawn maintenance and other duties as assigned at the Haldimand Memorial Arena and Ball Park Facility. XIII. NEXT MEETING The next Parks and Recreation Committee meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 27th, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. XIV. We should be all right with this until shut down when I can do the repairs internally. A new fan has been purchased in case it is needed before then. The arena is receiving a new defibrillator from the county E.M.S. who had applied for grants to cover numerous facilities in the county. These new units require updated training and information will be sent to all interested parties when a date for training has been set. David Harnden, C.I.T.
