The behavior of the PCM is a natural process that can not be regulated directly. The diagram above illustrates the heating and cooling periods of two laboratory measurements at the FH Münster. It shows how the heat absorption of the PCM panel differs from those without a PCM filling. With a PCM panel, the room temperature takes much longer to achieve a certain value at a constant heat input than without. In this case, the PCM filling of the ceiling panels absorbs the energy and therefore the increase of the room temperature is delayed for 3 hours. Typical room occupancy with 3 PCM panels, so that 5% of the floor is occupied Room occupancy, regeneration and required Room occupancy heating phase 3 Perforated panels for comfortable room acoustics Typically, the ceiling panels occupy 5% of the floor space. This layout can be achieved with one ceiling panel per building grid. 1. Combination with a normal radiant ceiling The diagram shows the heat-up and cool-down phase of the PCM panel during a laboratory measurement. At the beginning of the measurement the room temperature showed 17 C. Over a period of 5 hours a continuous thermal load was placed into the room with radiant heaters and without air conditioning until a room temperature of 3 C was reached. At this time, the PCM was completely liquid. By switching on the cooling, the PCM panel releases the stored heat over a period of 3.5 hours up to 9%. For the remaining 1% it needs also only 3.5 hours. This demonstrates that Metawell panels with PCM are able to recover completely within one night. This type of measurement corresponds to the jump-and-answer method, which was developed by the FH Münster and described in the VDI* guideline 1, which allows a comparison of different PCM radiant ceilings. PCM panels can be combined with the following options: Heat capacity of different dimensions and mounting types width/length temperature 1% charging PCM panels with suspensions regeneration options Conceivable are three different versions to ensure the regeneration of the PCMs: cooling phase The installation of copper pipe meanders on the back, through which cold or warm water can be directed. This enables an active possibility to discharge the PCM panels. 1 *Verband Deutscher Ingenieure (Association of German Engineers) PCM panels can be mounted with different types: hook profiles L-shaped profile with wire suspension 1 Dynamic measurement of W / m at 5% occupancy A detail A The table shows the different heat storage capacity of the panels with DT = 13 K.
