Palmiye Bio-Diesel Incorporated Company has provided us the environment friendly fuel for our school van in return for the collected waste oil. In addition, both organizations have run seminars on the damages caused by the waste oil for our parents and students. rural urban Palmiye Bio-Diesel Company has visited our school periodically to collect the waste oil we gather and at the end of the school year they have provided the environment friendly fuel for our school van. Through this process, our parents and students became aware of the damages that the waste oil can cause on the environment and human health. The project carried out by our school has spread its outcomes to the whole city as a good example in coping with environmental issues. 3. Project Identification Project Title Converting Waste oil into bio-diesel From Waste To Oil Project keywords Waste oil, bio diesel, environmental oil Project Summary In Environment and Innovative Ideas Project as Adapazarı ENKA Schools we (maximum 100 words) focus on that people consume much oil in different ways and they unconsciously throw waste oils in the environment. By the help of this project as Adapazarı ENKA Schools, students and parents, PAGE 2 OF 7

3 we are decided to collect waste oils at home and bring them to school. After we collect them in the containers at school, we call Palmiye Bio Energy Company in Istanbul in order to come and take the waste oils and convert them to biodiesel. After we give our waste oils to Palmiye Biodiesel Company, they will give us some biodieseel to run our one of school s buses. We will stick a slogan on our school bus which will give the message of not throwing waste oils but collecting them and giving them to the biodiesel companies to convert them into bio diesel. In this way we have much oxygen and we don t pollute the air and environment. Introduction and outline of the challenge addressed by your schools or group of schools. How was the situation prior to the project? ) (maximum 1 page) First of all, we have run seminars on the damages caused by the waste oil and the ways to reduce those damages for our, parents and students. We were supported by the Office of Environmental Conservation of Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality and Palmiye Bio-Diesel Company for those seminars. Our parents and students have joined in every step of the process to complete the project. Our students were so eager to join since they were well aware that they were protecting their own home. We haven t faced any kind of obstacles during our project. 4. Project Description Project description Please include also the following points:. Phases of the project;. We started our project in October and at the end of the school year we managed to run our school car with bio-diesel. It was found out that, waste oil collection from houses hasn t been increasing in our country yet. The punishments include only the restaurants, hotels or factories. The innovator way of this Project is the alternative oil used on our school bus.by the help of this Project our school buses started to search for alternative oil. Also it became an offer to the municipality for the problem about collecting waste oil from the houses. And it is a good example for the other Eco-Schools. The students,, parents, and the public in our city were informed about the harms and ways of recycling waste oil. A remarkable message was written on our school bus which is about collecting waste oil and using it as biodiesel for the school bus. ( The catchwords which the students created were used while doing this) With this activity other drivers started to pay attention to this Project so it became a long term Project. With the support of Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality Office of Environmental Conservation, brochures posters and the media was used especially to make the public more aware of the economical benefits and the effects of waste oil on people s health. So the Project became more effective. With this Project named From waste to oil there was a synergy between all the members of eco-team in our school and the families or the people around them. It was really a big team work. Students could see that the waste oil they brought to school instead of pouring it out, becomes biodiesel and used on buses. By this way they could tell everyone that it is so helpful for the enviroment. PAGE 6 OF 7

Also during the Science Festival our school bus was covered with the advertisement of biodiesel and all the participants of the festival were able to see how it works. In addition to that, by the help of the city tours with our school bus all the city became aware of such a project. So they are more caring about environmental problems and their solutions.
