3 Questions/Vocabulary for Chapter Two Look in your text to find the answers to the following questions. Write the answers and the page on which you found the answers. 1. Where did the children find a place to sleep? 2. Why did the children sleep in the day? 3. What did they hear coming up the road? 4. Which city did the children walk towards and why? 5. At the end of this chapter, where did it say the children had to sleep? Look in a dictionary or use context clues in the book to find the meanings of the following vocabulary words. 4 Chapter Two-Cause and Effect We are going to learn about cause and effect. An effect is what happens. A cause is why that happened. Here are the questions you can ask yourself when you think about cause and effect. To find the effect: What happened? To find the cause: Why did that happen? Here is an example: My bike has a flat tire. I ran over a nail. Cause: I ran over a nail. Effect: My bike has a flat tire. See if you can answer the question below: 1. Why did Henry and Jessie wake up Benny? Match each cause on the left with the effect on the right. Cause Effect 2. Someone might see Benny. a. The children hid in the bushes. 3. They heard someone coming up the b. The children went toward Silver City. road. 4. The baker and his wife were looking c. The children did not see the lightning for them in Greenfield. or hear the thunder. 5. The children were fast asleep. d. Benny had to wait until dark to get water.
