2 PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS Whether you re a keen amateur, or you have a new camera and don t know where to start, ShutterBugs photography workshops are for you! We offer a range of day, weekend, and evening workshops in and around Bristol and Bath, suited to every level of expertise. You ll learn from professional teachers and meet other aspiring shutterbugs in a fun and informal environment. ShutterBugs facilitators are all highly experienced, and are passionate, entertaining and knowledgeable. Our courses will not only open your eyes to a new creative skill, but they re also fun, social occasions, where you can meet & mingle with your facilitators and fellow shutterbugs! BACK TO BASICS (USING YOUR DIGITAL CAMERA) This fun and informative, hands-on course introduces you to the exciting world of digital photography. Get away from shooting in 'auto' mode, explore your camera s potential and take your skills to the next level. Having a great camera is only a small part of taking good photos, and by the end of our workshop you will have practised many techniques to improve your images. BEYOND BASICS (USING YOUR DIGITAL CAMERA) To get the best from this workshop you will be familiar with your camera & its controls or will have done the ShutterBugs 'Back to Basics' workshop. A good understanding of light, composition, and what goes into making a great image are all fundamental skills for taking your photography to the next level. We ll distinguish great pictures from good pictures and explore why some images appear to work better than others. We'll look at advanced lighting techniques with additional and mixed light sources, image manipulation, shooting in RAW, camera filters, social networks like Flickr, and more. If the weather allows we'll go outside as often as possible Available in 2 hour (bite-size), 1 day or x5 bite-size courses Not suitable for automatic compact camera Learn all about aperture, shutter speeds, depth of field, ISO, white balance, shooting modes, fill-in flash, megapixels, CCDs, composition, and more. Available in 2 hour (bite-size), 1 day or x5 bite-size courses Not suitable for automatic compact camera
3 TALKING HEADS (PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY) Our Talking Heads workshop offers the opportunity to explore how to produce fabulous portraits using simple techniques and lots of natural light. Using everyday equipment your tutor will demonstrate how you can get the best from your camera with little additional cost. We will look at camera controls and techniques, the use of props, how best to put your subject at ease, types of light source, and what type of background to use. Sometimes we will have a professional model. Available as a day course (1 day) STILL LIFE PHOTOGRAPHY This workshop is ideal for anyone interested in still life photography, or someone who wants to photograph their artwork, crafts or products. We'll look at aperture, shutter speeds, lighting and composition, and use them to produce high quality images. We will look at Aperture Priority as the concept of Depth of Field will be particularly useful for this workshop This workshop is for those with DSLR/Bridge or CSC cameras or similar. You should also be familiar with your camera and its controls. Available as a day course (1 day) STREETS ALIVE (PHOTO-JOURNALISM) Together we'll find and mingle with the crowds, and allow our images to tell the story and capture the flavour of the city environment in this reportage-style workshop. Capture those unexpected magical moments that are so easy to miss. Find out the best camera settings for street photography and get invaluable tips and hints for boosting your confidence while shooting people in public. This workshop is intended for those who are familiar with their camera controls, and who relish the opportunity to work in crowds and also work creatively under pressure. You will learn how to look around you and see potential photos in the everyday, and how to use your own interpretations, vision and style, to show something unique about your environment. Participants will be encouraged to produce a themed set of images. Available as a day course (1 day) CAPTURE THE MAGIC OF LIGHT TRAILS Light painting is a fun photography technique using long exposures to create magical images in dark spaces. On this workshop you'll be guided through a series of simple, fun, and eye-opening photography exercises, which will result in you having total control of how you want your light trail shots to look! With light trails you can draw pictures, trace objects or even just write your name. Come the end of this workshop you'll have a memory card full of colourful and striking images. All you need is a camera that allows a long exposure and some light to draw with. We ll supply the dark space!

5 PHOTOGRAPHY WALKS & TOURS Fancy doing something a bit different? Then ShutterBugs has the answer! Why not take an historic tour around Bristol Harbourside while we teach you how to take inspired photographs of famous landmarks, or maybe even delve into Leigh Woods (Bristol) to foray into the fungus fields or head down to Bath s city centre and capture the lights at the magical Christmas markets Fingers crossed we have not yet had to cancel any photography walk due to rain! Indeed stormy skies can provide very dramatic backdrops. PHOTOGRAPHY WALKS (BRISTOL, BATH, AND WELLS) Take a leisurely stroll and discover the unique history and interesting facts of Bristol, Bath, and Wells on one of our historic photography tours. Take inspired images of famous landmarks and learn to understand your digital camera as you walk around each of these magical cities. A ShutterBugs tutor will be on hand to help you take some fantastic photos and solve your issues, providing ideas for creative photography and suggesting how to make the most of any situation and environment even in the rain! Tours include: Bristol (Harbourside), Bristol (Old Quarter), Clifton Village (on the hill just above Bristol), Bath City Centre, Bath Skyline and Wells City Centre This workshop is suitable for all types of camera FUNGUS FORAY (BRISTOL) Explore the world of fungi in all of its forms be they edible or toxic, big or small, dull or colourful. We ll try to find puffballs, boletes, fairy clubs, stinkhorns and brackets to photograph. In addition to your ShutterBugs photography facilitator, we ll be accompanied by a fungus expert who will answer questions and explain the uses of fungi including ethnomycology, medicinal, food and recipes, and more. Please note that this is not a collecting foray. The species found during the day will be left in their natural habitat. A minimal amount of walking is involved on this course but there will be quite a lot of standing and, of course, to get the best shots we have to be near ground level. This workshop will be on location near Bristol probably in Leigh Woods. This workshop is suitable for all types of camera. Your camera will have to have a good macro setting SPRING INTO ACTION / AUTUMN COLOURS During these seasons we will be providing courses from time to time where you can try your hand at photographing snowdrops, bluebells or autumn colours. As the timing changes from year to year, the dates will be published closer to the time on the ShutterBugs website (see link below for any scheduled dates). This workshop is suitable for all types of camera
6 AFTER DARK, NIGHT LIGHTS (INCLUDING CHRISTMAS LIGHTS IN DECEMBER) Just because the sun has gone down, it doesn't mean your day of photography has to end! Discover the secrets of night photography during this fun, hands-on and informative evening workshop. You will be introduced to some fundamental techniques as well as have the chance to capture some stunning night-time shots of the city. The December workshop will bring the added dimension of Christmas lights! This workshop is more suited to DSLR, Bridge & CSC cameras - those capable of manipulating shutter speed and aperture settings, to sustain the long exposures required for night photography. We will also use the timer function on your camera, or a remote control if you have one. For those who have one - please bring a tripod, or enquire about hiring one if required. This workshop is suitable for all types of camera
