2 WELCOME TO THE SKI INFORMATION EVENING FOR AUSTRIA 2012 Thank-you for attending this information evening and as you are probably paying for this skiing experience I am sure you would like to know more details about the trip. Throughout the evening you will receive information from the tour operator SKI ASTONS, and from the staff who will be looking after your sons and daughters on their visit to Austria. You will have the opportunity to ask questions at the end and hopefully you will gain a better picture of the events. Pro Ski Wear will also be present at the back of the hall, showing their range for hire. Within this booklet are the items that your son/daughter will require for their trip. They offer good value and a high quality service. Before we leave for Austria in February, you will receive a full detailed itinerary of the journey, events and the hotel details (usually 2 weeks before we leave).

3 DENE MAGNA SKI TRIP RULES AND REGULATIONS 1. PUNCTUALITY To all meeting both here and in Austria. 2. CONSIDERATION FOR OTHERS During the journey and the stay, e.g. Please listen to ipods/phones on silent so not to disturb others. Help members of the trip with ski equipment. Respect other people privacy i.e. at times members of the groups will be tired and will want to sleep. Listen to instructions and help others who are unsure. 3. INSTRUCTIONS For the safety and welfare of all students and staff, listen and obey all instructions given (ski instructors/staff). 4. NO SMOKING/ALCOHOL/DRUGS Students are not allowed to purchase for others, or themselves. 5. MEDICATION Medication must be identified prior to the trip and looked after by a member of staff including spare inhalers. 6. HOTEL - No absence from the hotel unless accompanied by a member of staff. 7. HELMETS students 14 or under must wear a helmet by law. 8. SKIING All students must ski unless excused on medical grounds during the week (tiredness or lack of fitness is not an excuse for others to miss out). 9. STUDENTS ARE AT NO TIME ALLOWED TO SKI WITHOUT A QUALIFIED INSTRUCTOR OR MEMBER OF STAFF. 10. Eating ALL students are to eat at every meal time to maintain energy levels. 11. 4 WHAT TO BRING AND WEAR Remember that all skiing will take place at high altitude in a winter environment. Every party member will need to be adequately prepared against extreme weather conditions at all times. There is no substitute for weather-proof ski wear and the following items are essential. They can either be rented or purchased. ESSENTIAL ITEMS Ski Jacket Ski Trousers or Salopettes Warm Woolly Hat or Helmet Ski Goggles Sun Glasses Ski Gloves Several T-Shirts Sweat Shirts Polo Neck Jumpers or Thermal Tops Several Pairs of Ski Socks High Factor Sun Cream Lip Salve Small Rucksack Plastic Drink Bottle 2 Towels (1 for hotel and 1 for swimming) Toilet Bag and Contents Swimming Costume Casual wear for the evenings and travelling (very informal and needs to be comfortable), non-slip shoes/trainers Pillow case with ski jacket inside for journey (and saves space in your case)

5 MEDICATION A member of staff will keep student medication and students should bring this into school before the trip with a note from the parent indicating what the medication is for and the dosage. Students are not to keep any medication with them at all except for their asthmatic ventilators. Asthmatics need to bring 2 ventilators and keep 1 with them at all times. Staff responsible for the staff keeping of medication is Miss Dews and Miss Price. EVENING ENTERTAINMENTS These evening entertainments are not finalised but will help prevent boredom and improve their social skills to ensure they have an enjoyable experience. They include: Swimming Bowling Disco Quiz/Bingo Tyrolean Evening Certificates and Presentations

6 FITNESS FOR SKIING Skiing holidays are without doubt extremely energetic and often tiring. For this reason we will expect all students and staff to attend weekly ski fitness sessions. This will allow you to gain the most from the experience and enjoy it more. This will take place in the Sports Hall on an ILT time (Wednesdays ) after the Christmas break and are compulsory and will be run my Mr Albon and Mr Winney. DRY SLOPE LESSONS For Those students and staff that have never had any skiing experience, I have organised some dry slope lessons at Gloucester Dry Slope. It will be an invaluable experience for everyone to gain the feeling of putting ski boots and skis on. Also start the learning process with basic techniques before we get onto snow. It will certainly aid the speed of their learning and help them enjoy the week more with a head start.

7 POCKET MONEY We suggest that students do not bring more than 70 spending money for the trip. Before the trip we will be organising the collection of pocket money (they will need euros and a few pounds for the journey) and will be running a school bank on the trip so students do not lose all of their money. The money should already be converted to Euros and brought to Mr Griffiths. PASSPORTS Their own Passports and EHIC cards will also need to come in 1 week before we leave and will also be locked away in the safe to ensure we are fully prepared. Please bring them to Mr Albon.

8 COMMUNICATION When we are in resort we will use our Dene Magna Twitter page to post pictures and daily reports so you know how they are getting on. We know they forget at times to ring as they having too much fun!
