1 August 2016 Dear AWANA Parents and Clubbers: WELCOME BACK!!! We trust you have had a terrific summer and are excited about the upcoming AWANA year. Registration and Ice Cream Social Night and bouncy house for Cubbies through Trek Wednesday, September 7 th from 6:30pm to 8:00pm in the Gym Please print out a copy of this letter and the CLUBBER INFO FORM and BEHAVIOR CONTRACT. Bring the completed forms to Registration Night on the 7 th (even if no materials are needed). When you arrive on the 7 th, check in at each Club Room your children are attending, pick up materials (if any), and have the director complete the tally sheet (provided at registration). Please STOP at the cashier s table before you leave. Please make every effort to attend Registration Night, so we may have a good idea of numbers AND you can enjoy ice cream and the fun house. In addition to the material fees, each club collects $0.50 dues per week to help offset in-club expenses (prizes, treats, etc.). Dues may be paid in full at registration ($14.00). 3 SPECIAL EVENTS PERMISSION AND MEDICAL RELEASE STATEMENT Effective September 7, 2016 through May 3, 2017 As a parent / legal guardian, I do authorize for the above named minor(s) to receive treatment by a qualified and licensed medical doctor in the event of a medical emergency that, in the opinion of the attending physician, may endanger his/her life, cause disfigurement, physical impairment, or undue discomfort if delayed. This authority is granted if efforts to contact me, prior to treatment, fail. The minor(s) have permission to participate in the AWANA Clubs program at the Elgin Evangelical Free Church. As a parent or legal guardian, I do release the Elgin Evangelical Free Church and its agents, of any liability in the event of an accident or mishap resulting in the injury of the above named minor(s). This release is signed of my own free will with the purpose of granting permission to participate in and to authorize medical treatment under emergency circumstances in my absence. 4 AWANA BEHAVIOR CONTRACT The following are the expectations of ALL clubbers who attend the Elgin Evangelical Free Church s AWANA program. Be respectful to fellow clubbers, leaders and other individuals in the church. Listen to others, help each other, and be polite. Follow a hands-off policy. Absolutely NO play-fighting, goofing around, hitting, punching, pushing. Keep your hands to yourself!!! Use appropriate language. NO swearing, name-calling, or put-downs. Be mindful of how to use the church building. Use all furniture correctly, pick up and discard trash, NO running in the hallways, and keep the bathrooms clean. This is God s House!!! To the best of clubber s ability, work on learning the Word of God. Complete sections in the handbooks. Clubbers who cannot follow these expectations will be reminded about their behavior in the following manner: Step One: Warning and reminder of rules Step Two: Removal from situation and discussion with club director. 5 SPECIAL ACTIVITIES Parents are encouraged to attend major events. Our club sponsors and/or participates in many fun and challenging activities. Check with your child s director for any special events. Most of the time, a flyer is sent home with information. Not every activity listed here is scheduled each year. 1. Parent Night Special Night that Parents are encouraged to attend Club and enjoy a night with your clubber(s) and meet their leader. 2. Fun Fair An evening full of games and snacks. 3. Grand Prix night Sparks thru Trek can purchase cars kits build their car with parents at home or attend a workshop at church and build their car with parents and helpers. 4. T&T/ Trek: Store and Auction: clubbers earn Awana bucks for saying sections, bringing their Bibles, wearing uniforms, bringing a friend and participating in theme nights. They then can spend their bucks at the store held every other month. 5. Awards Night This special night recognizes all the hard work your clubber has put forth during Handbook Time. Awards are handed out to those who have completed their handbooks throughout the club year. A refreshment fellowship follows this special night. The Award night is the last night of the club year. AWANA AWARDS Each AWANA clubber has the opportunity to earn exciting awards throughout theclub year. They come in the form of patches or pins. They are to be worn on the uniform. Ribbons, plaques, and trophies are given for completing handbooks. Each child is allowed to work at his/her own pace and will be guided and helped by a caring leader. In order to complete a handbook, follow these guidelines: Cubbies work on one section per week Sparks can do multiple sections T&T can complete up to 4 sections in one night Trek works through their Bible study during a club night We would love to see each and every clubber receive a completed book award at the April Award night. The awards represent good achievement and spiritual growth in the knowledge of God and His Word. We encourage all young people to strive for their highest potential. We are glad that the Lord has led you to our Church and to the AWANA program to learn more of God s Word in a fun and faith environment. We are thrilled to have your clubber in our AWANA program and pray that we will be a blessing to your child and your family. The Bible tells us to train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6). Our goal in AWANA is not only to reach boys and girls with the gospel of Christ but also to train them to serve Him in all areas of their lives. We seek to establish a strong biblical foundation which will help provide direction for their daily lives. We ask for your support in encouraging your child to complete their handbook materials prior to coming to club each week. This will allow us more time to help them apply the biblical teachings that they will learn. Please feel free to stop by and visit your child s club at any time. You do not need a special invitation to come and observe what is happening in AWANA. Robert Newby, Commander PARENT INFORMATION As a parent, you are essential helpers for your child to get the most out of his/her club. Please use the following as a guideline. Always encourage your child. They have more fun when Mom and Dad show interest in their accomplishments. Help your child attend AWANA each week and arrive on time. Consistency builds friendships, achievement, and selfdiscipline. Help your child follow their club s guidelines for finishing their handbooks. Cubbies work through one section a week, while the older clubs, Sparks through T&T, can work on up to 4 sections per week. Trek works on a Bible study each week during club. Attend major events. You are always welcome. Drop-off and pick-up your child at the following locations. All clubbers will be waiting inside for you promptly at 8:00pm. 7 CLUB NAMES, REQUIREMENTS, AND guidelines CUBBIES: The Cubbies program is for children not yet in Kindergarten who are 3 to 5 years old. The curriculum provides appropriate material for the two years prior to Kindergarten. During Cubbies, your child will sing songs, hear a Bible story that correlates with the verse they are learning, have a visit from Cubbie Bear and his friends, have a snack, and play games. Cubbies Directors are: Jessica Feuser and April Swanson. REQUIREMENTS: * Your Cubbie must be 3 years of age by or on September 1, the year entering Cubbies * Parent or authorized adult must remain in the building during the first month of club. * Cubbies MUST be toilet trained. * Parent or adult authorized by parent must pick up child. SPARKS: Sparks is for children in Kindergarten through 2 nd grade. They will enjoy an evening of learning and reciting Bible verses, playing games, singing songs, and listening to great stories about God s Word. Sparks Director is Leslie Altieri. T&T: T&T is for 3 rd through 5 th graders. They spend their evening in Handbook Time, Game Time, and Council Time which deepens a child's knowledge about God and His Word. The year may include: special events, theme nights, contests and store. Clubbers have an opportunity to earn points for their team in many different ways. Their evening is packed full of fun, learning God's Word and making friends. T&T Director is Ada Newby. TREK: This program is for 6th thru 8th graders. It is a great opportunity for junior-high ers to participate in an evening full of fun, fellowship, and faith building. These clubbers participate in feature events, crazy games, and small group Bible study. Trek Director is Pastor Dan Goff. Our desire is for everyone to feel welcome and enjoy AWANA. Here are a few reminders to help make AWANA a fun place for your clubber!!!! 1. Be respectful of the equipment, building, and each other. Please treat your leaders and other clubbers the way you want to be treated with respect! 2. Come ready to be involved in all the activities. You will have more fun (and so will your friends) if you come to play, listen, share, and sing. 3. WALK everywhere in the building. Remember, church is God's House!!! You will have time to run and play in the gym. 4. When you have earned your uniform, wear it every week. Remember to bring your handbook and Bible every week. 5. Always listen for the voice of your leaders or director. When you hear the five-count begin, get quiet so you can hear instructions. 6. Stay with your group at all times. You are not to wander around the building by yourself. Follow the directions of your club, please. 7. Be very careful in the parking lot. Wait for Mom, Dad, or authorized adult to walk outside with you. 8. Come to club each week ready to have a great time. If you need any help, find a leader; they are here for YOU!!!
