2 Global competition Europe in global competition Global trade flows Urban centres in Asia provide an effective framework for commercial development European regions are being challenged New requirements on planning in Europe to help develop efficient, attractive city regions

3 European growth regions The geography of growth from a European perspective Regional urban drivers Interaction between urban and rural areas Urban centres as the framework for labour, for production, and for development of the urban environment and urban living We must create optimal conditions for development and growth while simultaneously generating attractive and efficient city regions
