2 Children s Museum of Richmond Junior Intern Program The Children s Museum of Richmond seeks high school students with an exceptional level of responsibility and interest in serving the community for its Junior Internship Program (JIP). JIP participants will be eligible for college scholarships based on their level of service to the Children s Museum. JIP participants will receive the following training opportunities: What we seek in JIP participants: Rising sophomores, juniors or seniors in high school Compelling evidence of a commitment to community service and a strong work ethic Ability to engage both young children and adults in play and learning Someone who enjoys a variety of people and volunteer assignments All participants will receive a thorough orientation and on-going training opportunities. Their responsibilities will include working throughout the Children s Museum s guest services areas at all three CMoR locations. JIP participants will perform duties at the museum s front desk, gift shop and on the museum floor. Those that distinguish themselves in these areas will be invited to provide support in the museum s administrative areas such as fund development, marketing and finance. The program will be limited to a 40 student cohort during the school year. Students who successfully complete the program will receive: An in-depth understanding of the nonprofit community and how it works Friendships with students from across Central Virginia Real experience in a fast paced work setting 1. A specialized orientation to the museum, the museum s educational philosophy and the overall nonprofit community 2. A monthly training program, including the following topics: Learning and Development for Children Age 8 and Under DISC Personality Profiles and Working on a Team Guest Services: Front desk training and membership sales The Value of Play: How to Facilitate Play with Children and Explain the Value to Parents Nonprofit Governance and Central Virginia s Nonprofit Community CMoR s Budget: A Case Study Fundraising 101 Marketing 101 and Social Media Résumé Development and Letters of Recommendation A deeper understanding of their own abilities Significant documented service hours, showing a deep commitment to a cause that many College Admissions Officers are seeking A personalized Letter of Recommendation from CMoR s President and CEO A college scholarship!* * JIP participants will provide volunteer service to the museum on a regular schedule. Those who provide service at the following levels, and who receive positive evaluations from the JIP leadership team, will be eligible for college scholarships: 500 service hours = $1,000 CMoR Service Scholarship 350 service hours = $500 CMoR Service Scholarship In addition, the member of the JIP cohort who contributes the most service hours will receive an additional $1,000, for a total CMoR Service Scholarship of $2,000.

Successful completion of the program is defined as: 1. In person attendance at the Orientation and at least 7* of the 8 monthly training sessions *Any missed monthly training sessions must be viewed via online video 2. Positive evaluation by JIP Leadership Team, achieved through: Consistent, quality interactions with museum guests, staff and other volunteers Adherence to agreed upon monthly service schedule One day s notification when an absence must occur 3. Achievement of at least 350 hours of volunteer service between June 16, 2014 & May 15, Completion of the program evaluation and training post test 5. Each JIP participant will be required to serve a minimum of two shifts per month
