2 This task pack contains a scenario, a set of instructions and some source material. Make sure you read through the scenario, instructions and source material carefully before you start. You will be supervised throughout your time working on this task, although during that time you can use most of the equipment that would normally be available to you in a real-life situation (this may include accessing the internet). All work submitted must be entirely your own. You are not allowed to be given any help with the skills that are being assessed through this controlled task. Make sure you hand in all of your work at the end of each session. You are not allowed to take any task materials away with you, or have access to these between sessions. 3 Task instructions: Compare the costs of holidays What do you need to find out? The scenario Two of your friends are planning a holiday next February. They would like to go to Rome (Italy) or Cairo (Egypt). They have asked for your help in planning the holiday. The aim of this task is to: investigate the costs of a one week holiday in each city compare the costs of car hire compare the temperatures in each city investigate the cost of car hire use conversion rates for currency make decisions based on your findings What you need to do Part 1 Make a detailed plan to show how you will do this task. You should consider: What information do I need to find? Where can I find the information? What calculations will I need to do? How will I present my findings? For Parts 2 and 3, you must show all your workings for calculations. You must also show how you have checked a range of calculations. Part 2 Work out and compare the costs of accommodation and flights for two people to Rome and Cairo Present your findings in a suitable way (Table, Comparative/Component Bar Chart or Pie Chart, Diagram or Line Graph) Find the total cost of car hire for 3 days. 4 Work out the average and range for the maximum temperatures and the minimum temperatures for one week in February Use your results to compare the temperatures in Rome and Cairo. Present your findings in a different way (Table, Chart, Diagram or Graph) Find a suitable source to convert currency between o British pounds and the Euro for Rome o British pounds and the Egyptian pound for Cairo. Use your findings to create and present a suitable graph, table or chart to help your friends convert different amounts of money into the local currency. State clearly where you found your source.
