2 High-performance, dynamic, volume CT With acquisition speeds as fast as one second, the explore Locus Ultra CT scanner from GE Healthcare permits dynamic pre-clinical CT studies never before possible, such as vascular and tissue perfusion. Building on established clinical CT technology, GE achieved this high level of performance by combining breakthrough flat-panel detector technology with a powerful X-ray tube. The resulting technology platform is optimized for non-invasively detecting and quantifying 3-D anatomical changes in small laboratory animal models and ex vivo specimens. explore Locus Ultra offers: Dynamic CT studies Quantitative anatomical and physiological measurements allow direct measures of perfusion and other breakthrough CT studies. High performance One-second volume data acquisition permits use of short-lived common contrast agents and provides exceptional throughput. In addition, a large transaxial field of view (14 cm) and long axial coverage (up to 10 cm/rotation) accommodate diverse animal models. 3 Dynamic CT Locus Ultra provides an integrated software and hardware solution to address the most challenging research applications: Perfusion Tumor: Measure parameters such as blood flow, blood volume, mean transit time and tissue permeability. Correlate blood flow dynamics to tumor growth and necrosis. Inflammation: Quantify changes in tissue flow or volume resulting from immune response activation related to injury or disease onset. Organ: Track changes in function and viability of organs such as kidney, heart or lung. Neurovascular injury: Quantify the extent of neurovascular injury due to stroke by measuring brain perfusion. Oncology Angiogenesis: Observe hyper-vascularization and vessel morphology that differentiates normal vessels from tumorfeeding vessels to quantify disease progression. Locus Ultra can evaluate the efficacy of anti-angiogenic therapies in longitudinal in vivo studies. Lung tumors: Measure lung tumor volumes with precision of <0.025 mm 3. Cardiovascular disease: Apply contrast agents to study stenosis, vascular disease and development, vascular injury/repair, vessel geometry and therapeutic efficacy. Respiratory disease: Visualize and quantify airway structures in small animals. Due to the short acquisition time, the pulmonary system can be evaluated in vivo, with a minimally invasive protocol (low X-ray and anesthesia dose, no intubation required). The image quality resulting from ungated scans exhibits little or no degradation due to lung or abdominal motion. Musculoskeletal Osteoporosis: Rapidly assess disease development, progression and therapeutic efficacy with true volume bone mineral density (vbmd) measurement. Arthritis: Monitor anatomical changes indicative of disease progression (joint spacing, bone and subchondral bone density). Phenotyping: Characterize anatomical differences in transgenic models and quantify developmental anomalies in longitudinal studies.
