7 Existing Liquid Handling Problems Air-cushion pipettes are convenient for dispensing but cannot be used for dispensing non-aqueous, viscous or hazardous liquids. Only positive displacement devices such as syringes are suitable for dispensing these types of liquids. Pipettes can only be calibrated for aqueous liquids. 8 Existing Liquid Handling Problems Piston seal Piston Cushion of air Liquid is aspirated into the tip by a cushion of air moved by the piston. This air-cushion behaves like a spring that effectively holds the aspirated volume of liquid in the tip. This is the same as aspirating liquid with a syringe when there is an air-bubble between the plunger and the liquid Pipette tip Elastic properties of the air cushion are effected by variations in: - air pressure, - air humidity, - sample density, - sample viscosity.

11 evol XR Digital Analytical Syringe The integrated XCHANGE coupling allows evol Syringes to be quickly and easily changed. A magnetic connection is made between the plunger drive and the syringe plunger. When the XCHANGE coupling is pulled back the syringe can be removed and replaced.

A similar volume range using a pipette would require between 5 to 12 individual pipettes and would not deliver the same precision and accuracy.

19 evol - User Calibration evol is the world s first truly calibrated analytical syringe To comply with your stringent laboratory standards (e.g. GLP, GMP, FDA) evol can be easily calibrated to ensure accurate dispensing at all times. Through a simple gravimetric calibration procedure a calibration factor is calculated that automatically adjusts the plunger drive to vastly improve syringe accuracy. Calibration factors can be stored for up to ten evol syringes and can be quickly loaded when the syringe is changed. 7
