1 December 2015 Charter Schools Stimulus Fund Grant Project Summaries Authorizer Awards Grant Amounts NYC Schools Chancellor 6 grants $1,075,600 NYS Board of Regents 7 grants $1,400,000 SUNY Trustees 5 grants $914, Total Awards $3,390,079 Bronx Community Charter School $200, District: NYC CSD 10 Average Score: 95.0 The school requests a grant to support renovations to meet planned growth towards the full K-8 program. The school received a full five year renewal in The grant will be used to build two new middle school classrooms and a drumming studio. The school received bonus points for the construction of the performance studio as their drumming program has never had a studio where students can practice as part of an ensemble. Brooklyn Prospect Charter School - Downtown $114, District: NYC CSD 13 Average Score: 84.0 The school requests a grant to assist with the costs of leasehold improvements for the build out of the new leased private facility including 14 additional classrooms, two science labs, an art studio, sound proof music studio, reading room, library, full sized school gym, outdoor recreation space, cafeteria and office space. The school received bonus points for the upgrades to the performing arts program to include high capacity electrical service to support the kilns, drying ovens and power tools and create the necessary sound proofing for the music studio. The proposed grant award reflects the full amount requested.

2 Capital Preparatory Harlem Charter School $200, District: NYC CSD 5 Average Score: 75.5 The school requests a grant to support the purchase acquisition and renovation of a private facility for school use and growth to ultimately serve grades Central Brooklyn Ascend Charter School $200, District: NYC CSD 22 Average Score: 95.5 The school requests a grant to support the renovation of the lower school s permanent facility. The grant will fully fund the following essential renovations to the school s interior: installing new ceiling in the building s multi-purpose room, completely encapsulating the existing asbestos ceiling material; upgrading the electrical wiring and service; and installing new lighting in the corridors. The school received bonus points for the planned upgrades to the performing arts program space including ceiling replacement and electrical upgrades. Charter School of Inquiry $200, District: Buffalo City School District Average Score: 93.5 The school requests a grant to make necessary renovations to ensure Americans with Disabilities Act ( ADA ) compliance for bathrooms and doors and also for the removal of unused boiler equipment, asbestos and a brick chimney. The school received bonus points for the planned upgrades to the performing arts program space to include improved auditorium and stage lighting and insulate the auditorium roof drain to prevent the roof leaking into the performance space. East Harlem Scholars Academy Charter School $200, District: NYC CSD 4 Average Score: 91.0 The school requests a grant to support the construction phase of a new 50,000 square foot educational facility. The school received bonus points for the planned upgrades to ensure that the new facility includes dedicated music, dance and visual and performing arts program space. Page 2 of 5

3 Global Community Charter School $200, District: NYC CSD 5 Average Score: 85.3 The school requests a grant to upgrade and purchase kitchen appliances for the main and secondary kitchen areas; upgrade the dance studio and music room including mirrors, storage and sound system, install a theatrical stage and public address system, and fit the business office with new work stations and meeting area. The school received bonus points for the upgrades to the dedicated performing arts space. Harlem Hebrew Language Academy Charter School $200, District: NYC CSD 3 Average Score: 99.0 The school requests a grant to support the renovation and expansion of the five-story, 32,000 square foot former parochial school. The grant would assist with the architect fees and development plans for ADA compliance and the addition of a rooftop playground resulting in the school s long-term facility that has the space necessary to serve the school at capacity. Hyde Leadership Charter School $100, District: NYC CSD 8 Average Score: 88.7 The school requests a grant to renovate the music, performing arts, visual arts and gymnasium facilities and to strengthen the integrity of the school roof which is used for physical education classes. The school received bonus points for the arts program renovation project to upgrade the space accommodating 75 band students daily by installing acoustical wall and door treatments and adding storage for music portfolios. The proposed grant award reflects the full amount requested. Inwood Academy for Leadership Charter School $199, District: NYC CSD 6 Average Score: 83.0 The school requests a grant for leasehold improvements to the auditorium, which include an elevated performing arts stage and adjacent gymnasium that serves as a dual space for athletics and events. The grant will also be used to install air conditioning to rooms that do not have it and to upgrade the buildings safety and security infrastructure. The school received bonus points for the upgrades to the performing arts program space with new flooring, projection equipment and the required outfitting of the space to accommodate more performance participants. 4 Metropolitan Lighthouse Charter School $200, District: NYC CSD 9 Average Score: 90.5 The school requests a grant to support renovations to the building rooftop and to build a student performance space that is large enough to accommodate a growing school community with increasing arts-infusion opportunities in all grade levels. The school received bonus points for the upgrades to the existing arts performance space to enable more capacity for parent and community involvement. New York French American Charter School $200, District: NYC CSD 3 Average Score: 75.3 The school requests a grant for leasehold improvements including: renovations to the building entrance by providing ADA access and a more secure, visitor friendly lobby space; adding gymnasium wall padding to the multipurpose room to ensure children s safety and also installing a roll-down divider curtain to allow flexible and overlapping use of the space; and improving the existing roof-top playground by expanding the existing static awning and adding retractable shelter to allow use throughout the year. PUC Achieve Charter School $200, District: Rochester City School District Average Score: 97.5 The school requests a grant to support the cost of replacement windows, carpet installation and multipurpose room renovations to improve performance space that will allow the school to create a performing arts program. The school received bonus points for the performing arts project for acoustical improvement and a damaged and uneven stage floor. Renaissance Academy Charter School of the Arts $200, District: Greece Central School District Average Score: The school requests a grant to support Phase II of renovation projects that includes updating hallways and common areas, five additional classrooms, office spaces for specialists, a music room and an art room to accommodate the planned enrollment growth and provide teaching and learning spaces for the integrated arts program. The school received bonus points for the proposed space expansion to the music and arts program upgrades to the facility. Page 4 of 5

5 South Bronx Early College Academy Charter School $200, District: NYC CSD 7 Average Score: 85.5 The school requests a grant to design, develop and complete the construction of an outdoor rooftop recreation, garden and research area as part of a larger new construction project that will create the school s long term home and base of operations. The school received bonus points for the upgrades planned for the performing arts program to build out the music rooms enhanced by the recent donation of musical instruments. Storefront Academy Charter School $200, District: NYC CSD 7 Average Score: 76.0 The school requests a grant to support the cost of building a commercial kitchen and equipment in its long-term leased space that will house the school. Vertus Charter School $200, District: Rochester City School District Average Score: 76.5 The school requests a grant to support the development costs to renovate a facility that will serve as the school s permanent home and meet the needs of its instructional model. Williamsburg Charter High School $175, District: NYC CSD 14 Average Score: 94.5 The school requests a grant to update classrooms including resurfacing floors, installing ventilation system for the kiln in the art room, repairing the HVAC system and modernizing the IT infrastructure.
