19 19 RAIN BIRD PRS ADVANTAGE THE TEST: Using a 15 Full Circle nozzle installed on both Rain Bird and Hunter Sprays inlet pressure was slowly increased to 100 psi and then reduced back down to 50 psi. THE RESULT: The Hunter Sprays were not able to readjust to accommodate the lower inlet pressure. On average, the Hunter sprays provided 18 psi outlet while Rain Bird delivered 26 psi operation. At 18 psi, a 15 Full Circle nozzle throws between 11 to 12 At 26 psi, a 15 Full Circle nozzle throws between 14 to 15 BOTTOM LINE: Pressure fluctuations are very common in commercial systems at start up and when different stations turn on and off. If you expect 15 of coverage and get 20% less, you will waste water. The design of Hunter s pressure regulator does not allow it to respond to fluctuating inlet pressure.

27 27 FAQ S Now that you have the RD1800 Series, are you phasing out the COM 1800 Series? No. The RD1800 Series Spray product line is a complement to the already established COM 1800 Series spray line. RD1800 provides differentiated spray performance and new features for harsh applications. The COM 1800 Series is still the everyday solution for the majority of applications. Is RD1800 available in non-potable models only? No. Standard models of RD1800 (white wiper seals and no purple text) are also available for harsh applications using potable water. How does Flow-Shield Technology impact flushing? It actually allows you to flush more thoroughly. The Flow-Shield device will allow small debris to pass during flushing and, because of the low flow, will not pull large debris into the spray body. Simply remove the internals of the last head on the line during flushing to completely flush all larger debris from the line. Does the Flow-Shield increase the likelihood of clogging or create pressure loss during operation? The presence of the Flow-Shield device itself should not increase the likelihood of clogging. It has also been designed to not result in a pressure loss of more than 1 psi across the Flow-Shield device during operation.

28 28 FAQ S Won t the debris pockets just trap debris instead of letting it flush from the system? The debris pockets in the body of the RD1800 are designed to trap debris and remove it from circulation. If there is a significant event that causes excessive amounts of debris, they could fill up. Their benefit would then diminish and some debris, like in standard sprays, could re-circulate. Most likely, if there is this much debris in the system, there will be other problems first. Are the chemicals used to make it resistant to biological attack harmful? No. The anti-microbial content added to RD1800 wiper seals is ubiquitous in our everyday lives. It can be found in most pool liners, shower curtains, rain coats umbrellas, floor mats, and more. It provides long-term preservation against attack and helps prevent surface growth, permanent staining, embrittlement, and premature product failure Can I retrofit RD1800 Series into 1800 Series Sprays? Are they compatible? Yes. The internals of RD1800 Series are compatible with COM 1800 Series cases. Internals of COM 1800 Series are also compatible with RD1800 Series.

29 29 FAQ S Do the wiper seal blades become clogged more easily, specifically the third blade, in the RD1800? How does RD1800 hold up in sand box testing? The RD1800 significantly outlasts all competitors in sand box testing. The Third- Blade resists damage due to sand because of the superior flushing at both popup and retraction. Has the RD1800 been tested in all types of conditions? Yes. The RD1800 has successfully completed field testing in the harshest installations across the country. In addition, Rain Bird engineers have put RD1800 through a battery of internal tests to ensure it is prepared for all types of conditions. How does calcium build up effect the performance of RD1800? How is it compared to other sprays? Calcium build up is hard to prevent unless you have some sort of scrubber mechanism. RD1800 will not provide increased resistance to calcium buildup compared to other products. Should I use RD1800 in low pressure applications? Follow all recommended operating specifications in the technical specifications and there should be no issues. Remember, SAM models use stronger springs so this can be an issue in low pressure installations with all sprays.

30 30 FAQ S Can you winterize RD1800 Series Sprays featuring Flow-Shield Technology? Yes. If nozzles are installed on the spray heads, you should not notice a difference. Can NP clip covers be used with the RD1800 Sprays? Yes. NP clip covers can be used with all models of RD1800 Series Sprays. How much more are RD1800 compared to COM 1800 Series? About 10% more for standard models. There is an additional increase for models with Flow-Shield Technology. Adding an NP cover is less than purchasing a separate NP clip on cover. What about Made-In-America requirements for publically funded projects? The RD1800 will be manufactured exclusively in North America. Are replacement parts available for RD1800? No. Like COM 1800 Series, no parts are available. What does RD stand for? Officially Recycled and Dirty water ready. Robust, reliable, rugged, durable, dependable
