9 COURSE DESCRIPTION This two-day course is designed for physicians whose clinical practices include general ophthalmology, refractive surgery, pathologies of cornea, and lens. Using an interactive, casebased approach, the distinguished speakers will present a variety of vignettes and practice pearls to illustrate clinical dilemmas in the diagnosis and management of anterior segment diseases. Day 1 will focus on refractive surgery including cataract and other lens-based refractive procedures, corneal refractive surgery and alternative refractive technologies; Day 2 will focus primarily on cornea and external disease. The topics will include: cataract and refractive surgery pearls, presbyopia correction, collagen crosslinking, highrisk anterior segment surgery, management of severe ocular surface disease, and the medical and surgical techniques for management of various infectious and inflammatory conditions of the anterior segment. A case-based format will be used throughout the program to encourage a more interactive forum. Additionally, a wet lab will be available for participants to gain hands-on exposure to femtosecond laser technology, lamellar keratoplasty and a variety of other anterior segment techniques. COURSE OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to: Evaluate medical evidence methodically by reviewing recent notable anterior segment publications Evaluate and better manage corneal astigmatism during cataract surgery to provide the best possible visual outcomes Identify different techniques for managing complicated anterior segment surgery Interpret results of corneal topography for refractive surgery screenings Appraise when and how to perform various techniques for lamellar keratoplasty Identify different IOLs for the treatment of cataract and refractive error, and analyze their indications and complications Incorporate new femtosecond laser technology for the treatment of cataract and refractive error, and analyze their indications and complications Evaluate each of the four femtosecond laser platforms in order to better decide which is best for their practice Diagnose and treat common ocular surface diseases using a comprehensive approach Diagnose and treat common and more challenging cases of microbial keratitis Correctly diagnose corneal pathology in patients going for cataract surgery Identify the best surgical approach for patients with primary and recurrent pterygium Prevent and recognize intraoperative complications and manage the complications during lamellar corneal surgery Identify the different uses of femtosecond laser for nonrefractive corneal surgery
