MINIMUM QUALIFICATION FOR ADMISSION (i) (ii) M.Tech. in Civil Engineering (Advanced Construction Technology) - Candidates seeking admission to the first semester of the four semester M.Tech. Course in Civil Engineering with specialization in Advanced Construction Technology should have passed B.E/B.Tech in Civil Engineering/Structural Engineering (or) B.Arch / B.Arch Engineering through regular course of study from an AICTE approved institution (or) an examination of any University or Authority accepted by the Pondicherry University as equivalent thereto, with at least 55% marks in the degree examination or equivalent CGPA*. (v) M.Tech. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Electrical Drives and Control) - Candidates seeking admission to the first semester of four semester M.Tech. Course in Electrical and Electronics Engineering with specialization in Electrical Drives and Control should have passed B.E./B.Tech. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering/Electrical Engineering through regular course of study from an AICTE approved institution (or) an examination of any University or Authority accepted by the Pondicherry University as equivalent thereto, with at least 55% marks in the degree examination or equivalent CGPA*. (vi) M.Tech in Environmental Engineering Candidates seeking admission to the first semester of the four semester M.Tech. Course in Environmental Engineering should have passed B.E/B.Tech in Civil / Chemical / Environmental Engineering / Biotechnology Engineering through regular course of study from an AICTE approved institution or an examination of any University or Authority accepted by the Pondicherry University as equivalent thereto, with at least 55% marks in the degree examination or equivalent CGPA*. (vii) M.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering (Product Design and Manufacturing) - Candidates seeking admission to the first semester of the four semester M.Tech. Course in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in Product design and Manufacturing should have passed B.E/B.Tech in Mechanical / Production / Manufacturing / Automobile / Mechatronics / Aeronautical / Metallurgy / Plastic Engineering through regular course of study from an AICTE approved institution or an examination of any University or Authority accepted by the Pondicherry University as equivalent thereto, with at least 55% marks in the degree examination or equivalent CGPA*. (viii) M.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering (Computer Aided Design) - Candidates seeking admission to the first semester of the four semester M.Tech. Course in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in Computer Aided Design should have passed B.E/B.Tech in Mechanical / Metallurgy / Automobile / Production / Manufacturing Engineering through regular course of study from an AICTE approved institution or an examination of any University or Authority accepted by the Pondicherry University as equivalent thereto, with at least 55% marks in the degree examination or equivalent CGPA*. (xi) M.Sc. in Materials Science & Technology Candidates seeking admission to the first semester of the four semester M.Sc. course should have passed Bachelor s Degree in Science with Physics as main subject and Chemistry and Mathematics as ancillaries. (or) Bachelor s Degree in Science with Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry as major subjects (or) B.Sc. Electronics Science with Physics & Mathematics as ancillaries (or) B.Sc. Ceramics Technology (or) B.Sc Polymer Technology with a minimum of 55% marks in major and minor subjects or equivalent CGPA*. (xiii) M.Phil. in Physics (Material Science) - Candidates seeking admission to the first semester of the two semester M.Phil course should have passed M.Sc Physics / M.Sc (Materials Science & Technology) with a minimum of 55% marks in the curriculum or equivalent CGPA*. * CGPA - Cumulative Grade Point Average Note: 1. For all M.Tech., M.Sc., M.Phil., courses candidates belonging to SC & ST who have a mere pass in the qualifying examination are also eligible. 2. There is no age limit for M.Tech., M.Sc., & M.Phil courses. 3. Government quota seats in self financing engineering colleges shall be filled by candidates from Puducherry U.T only. 3. ADMISSION PROCEDURE (A) Allocation of seats Out of the total sanctioned intake, 75% of the seats are reserved for candidates from U.T. of Puducherry and 25% of the seats reserved for candidates from other states/uts, for the PG courses offered in Government / Government sponsored Colleges. (B) SELECTION PROCEDURE (i) M.Tech. Courses (a) Puducherry State Candidates: 4

5 Admission shall be based on GATE percentile. In case of a tie in the GATE score, the aggregate marks of the qualifying examination (3rd semester to 8th semester) will be the criteria for selection. Vacancies arising in seats allotted for GATE candidates will be filled up by the non GATE candidates of Puducherry/ failing which by GATE candidates from other states / UT s, failing which by non Gate Candidates from other states / UT s. The selection of Non GATE candidates will be based on the performance in an entrance examination to be conducted by the CENTAC-PG. The SC/ST vacancies of Puducherry quota will be filled by non GATE SC/ST candidates of Puducherry origin, failing which, by GATE SC /ST candidates from Other States / Union Territories. (b) Other State Candidates: Admission shall be based on GATE percentile. In case of a tie in the GATE score, the aggregate marks of the qualifying examination (3rd semester to 8 semester) will be the criteria for selection. Vacancies arising in seats allotted for GATE candidates from Other States / Union Territories will be filled up by non GATE candidates from Other states, failing which, by the GATE/non GATE candidates of Puducherry general, failing which, by sponsored candidates. The selection of non GATE candidates will be based on the performance in an entrance examination to be conducted by the CENTAC-PG. The SC/ST vacancies of Other States / Union Territories will be filled by SC/ST candidates of Puducherry origin with GATE score, failing which, by non GATE candidates. (c) Sponsored Candidates: Sponsored candidates shall be treated as non GATE candidates and (i) 40% weightage of marks for experience (at the rate of 4% for each completed year of experience excluding the first two years which is the minimum requirement, subject to a maximum of 40%) and (ii) 60% weightage of marks shall be given for the performance in entrance examination to be conducted by CENTAC-PG. The aggregate of marks obtained in (i) and (ii) shall be the criteria for selection. Sponsored candidates must have two years of full time work experience after obtaining minimum qualification for admission in a registered firm* / company* / Industry* / Educational and Research Institution / any Government Department / Government Autonomous Organisation, in the relevant field in which admission is sought. * The sponsoring firm / company / industry should be a member of CII / NSI / Builders Association. The candidate sponsored should be a confirmed employee. (d) Non GATE Candidates: The candidates under non-gate and sponsored categories should obtain minimum percentile in the entrance examination as prescribed below: SC/ST candidates should have obtained at least 10% of maximum mark obtained in that discipline. The other candidates should have obtained at least 20% of maximum mark obtained in that discipline. (e) For self financing courses Admission to self financing courses shall be based only on merit in the entrance examination conducted by CENTAC PG. The candidates under non-gate and sponsored categories should obtain minimum marks in the entrance examination as prescribed below: SC/ST candidates should have obtained at least 10% of maximum marks obtained in that discipline. The other candidates should have obtained at least 20% of maximum marks obtained in that discipline. In addition to the above conditions, sponsored candidates must have two years of full time work experience after obtaining minimum qualification for admission in a registered firm# / company# / Industry# / Educational and Research Institution / any Government Department / Government Autonomous Organisation, in the relevant field in which admission is sought. A letter from the employer must be furnished stating that the candidate is being sponsored to get admission. The employers should also indicate that the candidate will not be withdrawn midway before the completion of course. The fee for the candidates should normally be borne by the sponsoring organisation wherever possible and the fees for the entire year should be paid in the beginning of the academic year. # The sponsoring firm / company / industry should be a member of CII / NSI / Builders Association. The candidate sponsored should be a confirmed employee. Stipend for M.Tech. Students : GATE qualified candidates admitted in M.Tech. will be paid stipend only after the receipt of funds from AICTE. Sponsored candidates will not be eligible to receive GATE stipend even if they are admitted with a GATE score card. (ii) M.Sc. in Materials Science & Technology 5

6 Selection is based on the performance of candidates in the entrance examination to be conducted by CENTAC PG. (iii) M.Phil. in Physics (Material Science) Selection is by an interview on the research area concerned. The weightage of mark distribution are 20% for UG degree, 40% for PG degree and 40% for personal interview. 4. ENTRANCE EXAMINATION Entrance Examination would be conducted only at Pondicherry Engineering College for the Non-Gate and Sponsored candidates for admission to M.Tech courses and M.Sc. course Pattern of Entrance Examination The Entrance Examination is of two hours duration consisting of 90 objective type questions. Each PG Programme would have a separate question paper covering the portions learnt in the relative undergraduate discipline. Each correct answer carries 4 marks and wrong answers will have minus 1 mark (Negative mark). Candidates have to shade the answers in the coding sheets which will be supplied at the time of test along with question booklet. 4.2 Schedule of Entrance Examination The Entrance Examination will be conducted only in Pondicherry Engineering College as per the following schedule. Test Date Time Entrance Examination 28 th, 29 th July a.m. to noon & pm to 4.00 pm 4.3. Hall Tickets Shortly after the receipt of the application that is complete in all respects, the Hall Ticket for Entrance Examination along with Register Number will be dispatched to the candidates. The Hall Ticket must be produced at the time of the Entrance Examination for verification. No candidate shall be permitted to write the Entrance Examination without the valid Hall Ticket. PG Entrance Examination Hall Ticket must be preserved even after the Entrance Examination and it should be presented at the time of counselling for admission Duplicate Hall Ticket If Entrance Examination Hall Ticket is not received by 26 th July, 2012, the candidate should contact the Enquiry Office located in Pondicherry Engineering College. When the candidates come for duplicate Hall Ticket, they should produce two passport size photographs and the proof of having applied for Entrance Examination. Tel. : to , Ext. 361 Contact Date(s) 27 th July, 2012 If the Hall Ticket received is incomplete in any respect, e.g. without register number, etc., the candidates are advised to contact the Enquiry Office with the faulty Hall Ticket on the date as mentioned above for clarification and necessary correction. All photographs used for identification purpose until the admission of the candidate is over, shall be the prints from the same negative. It is advised that sufficient number of copies of the photograph may be kept in reserve to meet any situation like the one described above that may arise any time in future. 5. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Application forms and Information Bulletin can be obtained from the Office of PEC Credit Society, Pondicherry Engineering College, Puducherry , in person on all working days on or after 29 th June 2012 on payment of Rs. 1030/- [Rs. 530/- for SC / ST candidates]. Application forms can 6

7 also be obtained by post by sending a request to The Convenor, CENTAC-PG, Pondicherry Engineering College, Puducherry , along with two self-addressed slips (neatly typed or hand written) and a crossed demand draft for Rs.1065/- (Rs.1000/- towards the cost of application and Rs.65/- for postage) [Rs.565/- for SC / ST Candidates (Rs.500/- towards the cost of application and Rs.65/- for postage)], drawn in favour of The Convenor, CENTAC-PG payable at Puducherry. Payment by cheques, postal orders and money orders will not be accepted. Filled-in Application forms along with all necessary enclosures should be sent in the prescribed envelope to 'The Convenor, Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC-PG), Pondicherry Engineering College, Puducherry ', so as to reach latest by Monday, 16th July 2012 before 5.00 p.m. Details are also available in the web site Application forms can also be downloaded and submitted along with crossed Demand Draft for Rs.1000/-[Rs.500/- for SC/ST candidates] drawn in favour of the Convenor, CENTAC-PG payable at Puducherry. Note : i) For each course, a separate application has to be submitted. ii) iii) iv) Applications which are incomplete, defective or received after the due date shall be rejected summarily and no correspondence shall be entertained in this regard. Candidates selected for admission shall be intimated by post. No communication shall be sent to the applicants not selected for admission. No correspondence in this regard shall be entertained. The selected candidates shall be required to submit all the documents in original at the time of counselling. v) The original documents submitted shall be returned only after obtaining the recognition from the Pondicherry University. The candidates are advised to take enough number of photocopies of the documents before submitting the original documents. vi) vii) viii) ix) Admission will not be granted to candidates who do not produce the original certificates at the time of counselling. All admissions made are provisional and subject to the approval of Pondicherry University. It shall be the responsibility of the candidate who applies for admission to study the Information and Instructions to the Candidates and ensure that he/ she is eligible for admission. The admission of any candidate not possessing the required qualification, allotted either based on false certificates or by oversight shall be liable to be cancelled and the candidates shall have no cause for grievance. 6. CRITERIA FOR DOMICILE a) Those candidates or whose parents have been residing continuously in the UT of Puducherry for at least for 5 years immediately preceding the date of application. b) Those who have passed the Degree examination and for that purpose had undergone academic studies continuously for 5 successive years immediately preceding the qualifying examination (including the year of the qualifying examination) in recognised educational institution(s) located in UT of Puducherry and having their residence in UT of Puducherry for 5 years continuously during that period. c) Children of Central Government Servants / Defence Personnel / Central Paramilitary Forces / Employees of Public Sector Undertakings wholly or substantially run either by the Central Government or by the UT of Puducherry government, posted and serving in the UT of Puducherry for at least a minimum period of one year prior to the stipulated last date of submission of application for the course. d) Children of natives of the UT of Puducherry who have declared any place in the Puducherry UT as their home town and so certified by their respective Heads of Office. (Note : Nativity certificate in the prescribed format has to be enclosed along with the admission application for the course). e) Children of Defence Personnel who were killed or disabled in action and children of Central Government Servants / UT of Puducherry Government Servants / Defence Personnel / Employees of Public Sector undertakings as referred in category (c) who have died while in service, in UT of Puducherry. 7

8 f) French Nationals residing in UT of Puducherry and covered by the terms of the Treaty of Cession shall be treated on par with the candidates who produce the prescribed residence certificate of UT of Puducherry. However such French Nationals will not be required to produce residence certificate, instead they should produce a certificate of registration issued for this purpose from the French Consulate at Puducherry. Children of these French Nationals shall not be considered for admission under the quota of non-residents. 7. COUNSELLING FOR ADMISSION The admission is based on the merit, category of the candidates, and availability of vacancies at the time of counselling. All admissions made by CENTAC-PG are provisional and subject to the approval of Pondicherry University Venue Counselling for PG programmes will be conducted at the Office of the CENTAC-PG, Pondicherry Engineering College, Pillaichavady, Puducherry Date and Time Candidates shall be called for counselling as per their merit. Candidates to be called for counselling shall be intimated through call letters or a public notification in newspapers and in the Pondicherry Engineering College web site ( No change of date / time of counselling is allowed. CENTAC-PG will not be responsible for postal delay, if any, and non-delivery of counselling intimation whatever reason thereto. Candidates who do not attend the counselling in the specified date and time have to forego the claim for admission. However, due to unforeseen circumstances and unavoidable reasons, if a candidate is unable to attend the counselling on the indicated date and time, he / she can attend on a subsequent date and time during the counselling period with prior permission of The Convenor, CENTAC-PG. But, the candidate can only opt for the seat available at that time and cannot claim any seat as per his / her original rank. In any case, counselling will not be done in the absence of candidates. Unfilled seats and vacancies arising out of the dropouts of already admitted candidates will be filled up during the subsequent counsellings. Details of such vacancies will be notified on the notice board and will also be made available in the Pondicherry Engineering College web site ( updated periodically. Individual intimation will not be sent to candidates for the Counselling for seats arising due to vacancies. No communication shall be sent to candidates who are not eligible to be called for counselling and no further correspondence in this regard shall be entertained Verification of Original Certificates Candidates called for counselling shall be required to submit all the documents in original for verification at the time of counselling. Candidates, who fail to produce the required documents in original, shall not be counselled. However, if a candidate has deposited the original certificates to an institution where he / she has already been admitted, a letter to that effect issued by the Head of the institution should be produced. Only in that case, attested / true copy of certificates will be accepted for verification. The original documents submitted by the candidates to be admitted, shall be returned only after obtaining recognition from the respective Universities and hence the candidates are advised to take enough number of photocopies of the documents before submitting the originals for verification during counselling Counselling Fees A counseling fee of Rs.1100/- (Rs550/- for SC/ST) will be collected from each candidate. Candidates will forfeit the counseling fee of Rs.1100/- (Rs.550/- for SC/ST candidates) only on selection of seat in the first counseling. However, in subsequent counseling(s) a non-refundable counseling fee of Rs.800/- (for SC/ST candidates Rs.400/-) shall be collected irrespective of selection of seat. The counseling fee should be in the form of Demand Draft drawn in favour of The Convenor, CENTAC-PG, PAYABLE at Puducherry. Payment by cheques, postal orders, money orders and Cash will not be accepted. No candidate will be allowed to attend the counseling without the prescribed counseling fee

(ii) Fees payable to the University : Registration fee, Matriculation fee, Recognition fee, University development fee and sports fee shall be paid as prescribed by the Pondicherry University (Approximately Rs. 1500/-). The Pondicherry University fee has to be paid along with the College fee at the time of admission.
