1 National Certificate in Health, Disability, and Aged Support (Core Competencies) (Level 3) Support workers who have experience working in the health, disability or aged support sector, or who have completed the Foundation Skills qualification can continue their learning into a range of advanced areas with the Level 3 Core Competencies qualification. Programme overview This qualification is designed to build on the existing knowledge and skills required of support workers in a variety of health, disability and aged support contexts within home-based, community and residential settings. Learning and assessment for this qualification occurs in the workplace. Programme outline The qualification covers the following topics: applying the Code of Rights. self-advocacy. suspected abuse indicators and responses. Careerforce is committed to improving the health and wellbeing of New Zealanders through workforce training. The Core Competencies qualification also allows workplaces or trainees to select from a range of unit standards to create a tailored qualification that suits the requirements of the workplace info@careerforce.org.nz
2 Average duration 10 months Fees $230 Credits 57 Enrolment requirements To enrol in Core Competencies (Level 3), the trainee must meet the following requirements: be employed as a support worker in a health, disability or aged support organisation. have one of the following residency statuses: o New Zealand citizen (including Cook Islands, Niue and Tokelau citizens) o New Zealand permanent resident o New Zealand work permit/work visa o Australian citizen o hold refugee status in New Zealand. 3 Core Competencies Qualification Requirements Summary of requirements It is recommended that candidates hold the National Certificate in Health, Disability, and Aged Support (Foundation Skills) (Level 2). A minimum of 57 credits of which a minimum of 40 credits at Level 3 or above. Compulsory: Three compulsory unit standards totalling 9 credits. Elective: Thirty-two credits from selected unit standards. Detailed requirements Compulsory section Domain: Community Support Service Describe self-advocacy and support a self-advocacy process in a health or disability setting Recognise indicators and describe responses to suspected 1836 abuse of people using health or disability services Apply the Code of Rights when supporting people in an aged Elective section Meet the requirements of all of the following sets Elective 1 (6 credits) Elective 2 (32 credits, minimum of 15 at Level 3) Elective 3 (10 credits) Elective 1: a minimum of 1 standard Domain: Community Support Service Provide support to people of different ethnicity in an aged Describe and apply culturally safe Māori operating principles and values in a health, disability, or Elective 2: a minimum of 32 credits at Level 2 to Level 3 of which a minimum of 15 credits at Level 3 Domain: Human Services Demonstrate knowledge of causes and associated conditions related to intellectual disability Demonstrate knowledge of causes and common effects of physical disability Domain: Core Health Describe continence, incontinence, interventions, and required reporting in an aged care, health, or disability 2 8 ilearn context Domain: Community Support Services Support a consumer's wellbeing and quality of life in a health or disability setting 2 6 Core Competencies Qualification Information Page 3 of 6
