As seen on page 3 of this newsletter, a few images of shows in 14. When attending Franklin Theatre Company shows, you can be sure you will see some of the best high school theatre. For example, beginning this school term, there was at least 3 shows in rehearsal. Along with back stage efforts to prepare costumes, sets, props, and programs. In addition, plans are made by FTA to sponsor an Ashland, Or field trip to the Ashland Shakespeare festival. There is around 18 students signed up with a deposit of $0 with a total cost of $375 per person. Fundraising is a big means to help support theatre and this trip in 15. If anyone is interested in going on this trip, please contact at the following address: ftc@frankintheatreassociation.com As we enter the new year, plenty more activities will be on-going as noted in this newsletter. Auditions and rehearsals for the musical Legally Blonde. Students wanting to audition need to get their audition packet of information from Legally%Blonde.pdf. Each auditioners must also prepare a song and bring the sheet music to their audition. Please register with the FTA: Registration & Help Form FTC ON THE INTERNET MAIN THEATRE WEB SITE FHS SCHOOL LOOP THEATRE FTC ON YOU TUBE FTC CALENDAR TICKETS ON-LINE Want to see the Honors Advanced Theatre class in a wonderful one-act and their presentations of monologues and duo-scenes that will be presented at the annual High School Lenaea Festival at Folsom Lake College during February 6-8, 15. Come to FHS January 28, 15 at 7 PM to see a preview of their class work. This is a free show but donations are welcome. While the rehearsals and shows for Legally Blonde, there will be term 3 & 4 Children s shows. Again, this year FTC is glad to accommodate 130 Franklin students signing up for this class which is comprised of Term 3 of 50 students and Term 4 with 80 students. Of course not all are on stage, many are part of the Tech Crew that help make these shows get on stage. This year we even have an increase in signups from elementary schools attending over last year. At this time we have an estimated attendance of over 6,000; and that does not include the 4 public performances for each term. We hope you mark the dates for these shows as the students will present a great show of Peter Pan. Can they fly on stage, with imagination you will may see that happen! 1
2 NEWS AND ACTIVITIES One of the most important fund raising events is the Crab Feed happening on January 31, 15. It all begins at 6:30 P.M. Come enjoy a night out with great crab and more, entertainment, spirits, and some great music. Tickets are now on sale!! 3 ON THE SCENE AT TOBY JOHNSON MIDDLE SCHOOL DRAMA Hey, it was one of the greatest shows at Toby Johnson Middle School presented by the Jaguar Theatre Company, the musical Seussical Jr. This was a show that sold out performance over a two night performances. It was reviewed by many and declaring this was the best musical show presented yet by the Jaguar Theatre Company. To the many students actors, staff and parents, this was truly one of the best shows they have put together. This year s show was dedicated to the late Toby Johnson who passed away only weeks before this show opened. Toby Johnson, a rancher and educator whose folksy manner, common-sense values and connection to people from all walks of life propelled him to four terms on the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors, died at 97. Before entering public office, Johnson spent almost three decades as a teacher, principal and superintendent in Sacramento County schools. He served as an administrator in small, rural districts, working directly with teachers and custodians, managing public budgets and getting to know families trying to make ends meet. Another year has come to an end. FTC is proud of its shows. King & I photo shows the many children in this show along with Ayumi Wong who was their Mother. Upper right the cast won a Sacramento area performance and went to San Jose to compete with other schools from Northern California. Middle Left, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz performed in two terms for the 1st time. Middle left was the final show for Fat Cats Awards. In the first half of the school year for the Annual Dinner show musical revue Transitions, then the Great show of Almost, Maine, and just closing the very entertaining House Full of Letters. 3
4 You may have seen this before; but we thought it was worth posting here. if you haven t seen this, is this a Coincidence or Not??? So, lets assign numbers to the letters of the alphabet. A B C D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z If we take the assigned numbers to each letter in a word and total them, we get the following results: K N O W L E D G E Knowledge = 96 Or 96% H A R D W O R K Hard work = 96 Or 96% Both are important, but fall just short of 100% A T T I T U D E Attitude = 100 Or 100% attitude - a theatrical pose created for effect; "the actor struck just the right attitude". Making a good impression! 15 SHOWS COMING TO THE BLACK BOX THEATRE On January 28, 15 at 7 PM will be a free show showcasing the Honors Advanced Theatre presenting their Lenaea Festival presentations. Lenaea is a high school theatre festival featuring over 50 high schools. Each school may have a one-act, 4 monologues, 2 duo scenes, and a musical singer. This evening will present the FTC entrants to this festival. In 15 we have 24 Children s shows, Peter Pan, January to February 28, 15. daily shows, then ending with 4 community shows on February 27 & 28, 15. Then on March, 21, 26, 27, 28 7 great show of Legally Blonde, the Musical. Then during April May Children s show, Peter Pan, for another 22 performances including 4 community shows on April 24 & 25, 15. The children s show has about 3,500 attending each daily schedule, an increase over last year of 1,000 guests scheduled Tickets now on sale: at school, check with Cast members, or on-line at Ticket Leap (small processing fee applies) Final show is the annual Fat Cat s Award Ceremony. Exciting awards, skits and lots of fun. May 14, 15 7PM
