1 Using Camtasia Relay Camtasia Relay is a screen capture system which allows users to record and capture their screens to share with others. Camtasia Relay can be used from any computer (on or off campus) with Internet access. Viewers are able to fast-forward, rewind, or skip to particular segments. The captures can be viewed via an Internet browser or on a mobile device. Note: Camtasia Relay is now integrated with Kaltura, UIS media management solution. For more information, please see the Retrieving your Recordings section on page 5. Installing Camtasia Relay To install Camtasia Relay on your system, 1. Open This will take you to the UIS Camtasia Relay website. 2. Log in with your NetID and Password. Click Sign In. 3. After logging in, click on Download Recorders on the navigation bar. This takes you to the download recorders page where you will select the recorder for your operating system. Click the appropriate Download link to download the installation file. Using Camtasia Relay To use Camtasia Relay, 1. Launch the Camtasia Relay client. Information Technology Services, UIS 1

2 2. Enter your UIS NetID and password and click Log in. 3. To setup a new recording you need to: a. Select the Kaltura profile. b. Add a Title for the recording. c. Add a brief Description for the recording. (The description is optional, but is useful for searching for recordings.) 4. Check the microphone s audio level. To check this, locate the green bar labeled Volume. Begin speaking and the green bar should go at least halfway to the right [to the yellow section]. When activated (indicated by green), the Auto button automatically adjusts the volume to your speaking voice. 5. Click the Audio button to select a different microphone. Click to select the audio device you want to use to record. Check the Record System Audio box if you want any sound coming from your computer to be recorded (i.e. if you are recording a Information Technology Services, UIS 2

3 narrated PowerPoint presentation). Click OK. 6. To begin recording, click REC. A second window will appear and there is a 3-second countdown to record. Once the countdown completes, the recorder minimizes in your toolbar or dock. 7. To stop your recording, click on the Camtasia Relay recorder in your toolbar or dock to retrieve the recorder controls. Press the Stop button to end the recording. 8. The Camtasia Relay Review will open. Here you can: a. review your presentation b. add notes c. change the title d. trim out any unwanted content at the beginning or the end of the video Information Technology Services, UIS 3

4 9. When you are finished previewing or editing the video, click Submit. The video will be uploaded to the Web and processed. Once the file has been processed, Camtasia will notify you via when it is completed. Trimming Feature To trim your captured video, 1. Select the Trimming icon in the Review Window. 2. Click and drag the marker to select a Start Point for your video. Click the Set Presentation Start icon. 3. Click and drag the marker again to select the End Point for your video. Click the Set Presentation End icon. The parts that were cut from your video will be shaded in red. 4. If at any point you want to cancel the trimmings you made, click the Cancel Trim icon. Recording with a Webcam To record with your webcam, 1. Click the Camera icon in the top toolbar. 2. Click the Camera you want to record. Information Technology Services, UIS 4

5 3. The Recording Preview will appear on the screen with your webcam video in the bottom right corner. 4. During recording, you will not see your webcam, but after completing the recording, your webcam will appear in the bottom right screen of your video. Retrieving your Recordings After recording and submitting your Camtasia Relay video, you will receive an . To view and download the video, users must log into their Blackboard or log into their Camtasia Relay account. Kaltura Media and Blackboard 1. After logging into Blackboard, select Kaltura Media from the Tools menu on the left side of the page. Information Technology Services, UIS 5

6 2. All of the videos you have recorded with Camtasia Relay (including those recorded previously) will appear listed on the left side of the page. Select the video to display it on the right where you can play it directly in Blackboard and make other selections. 3. To get the link to your video to share with others through , display on a website, etc., select the video from the left so it displays on the right. Click Share. 4. Copy the link for or IM, or the link to paste onto your website or blog. Information Technology Services, UIS 6

7 5. To download the video, select the Download option. It will then be downloaded as an mp4 file to your computer. Posting a Video in your Blackboard Course 1. If you want to put video in Blackboard course, you must first log into your Blackboard and then go to the desired content area of the course, for example Course Materials. 2. From the Tools menu, select Kaltura Media. 3. At the top of the screen, select Add Media. Information Technology Services, UIS 7

8 4. From the left side of the screen, you can select from where you would like to add a video to your Blackboard. Upload: Select upload if you would like to upload a video you have already recorded, for example, with Windows Movie Maker, from a webcam, from a mobile device, a Lync recording, etc. My Content: Select My Content to choose from previously recorded Camtasia Relay videos. Webcam: If you want to record a video using your webcam right then and there, choose webcam. Deleting Recordings Note: Kaltura player will automatically adjust depending upon whatever device your viewers are watching on Mac, PC, mobile, etc. 1. To delete your Camtasia Relay videos, log into your Blackboard and select Kaltura Media in the Tools options, as indicated above. 2. Select the video you wish to delete, and it will appear on the right side of the screen. Select Delete Media below the video. Information Technology Services, UIS 8

9 Your Camtasia Relay Account Your Camtasia Relay account is the second place you can find your videos (aside from Blackboard as discussed above). Home - where you find your presentations, including "Recent Presentations" and FAQs. Presentations - features two columns. One shows all of your presentations, and the other shows the status of your latest presentation. The first column also contains the detailed information about all of your previous presentations like number of "Completed", " Processing", "Deleted", "Failed", and "Needs attention" presentations which are organized via a drop-down list. In the left column, click the dropdown arrow to see the status of all presentations. Information Technology Services, UIS 9

10 Use the right hand column to check the status of the most current presentation you have recorded. Profiles - your current Profile/list of profiles [i.e. type of video]. Blackboard settings, recording settings, encoding settings, and publishing setting are displayed here. Accounts - where you can manage your Camtasia Relay Accounts. Download Recorders is where you can download the Camtasia Relay client onto your machine.
