Pic by NurulShafinaJemenon 25 October 2013 (NST) Moving towards zero counters By Dawn Chan SUBANG JAYA: Zero counters. Full fledged online services. That is what the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) aspires to do by making full use of modern technology to make things easy for its taxpayers as it gears towards innovation, technology and becoming a more sustainable township. Come next year, through the council's online portal called My@MPSJ, the public can pay their assessment tax, traffic compounds and the renewal of non-risky business licences (e.g. hair salon, florists, restaurants) online. To encourage more Subang Jaya folk to get on the online bandwagon, the council has embarked on a campaign to register as many subscribers at its My@MPSJ portal last Friday. To date, some 244 people have gone to the council headquarters in USJ 5 as well as its branch offices in Puchong and Serdang to sign up for the service. Registration can also be done at the council's mobile counter that will be stationed at selected Petronas stations and supermarkets around here or by logging onto the council website. In an interview ahead of the portal launch today, council president DatukAsmawiKasbi said as a progressive local council, it was important to embrace information and communications technology

15 he added, is the council's commitment to exploit ICT as a driving force to improve service delivery as part of its Core Strategic Plan "We are moving towards the phase of zero counters next year. Our customers will find it easy to deal with the council. At the same time, it saves them money and time. "It is important for the council to preserve the environment by going green. Not only do we reduce the use of paper and power, we are also cutting down the carbon footprint of taxpayers coming to our headquarters. It also means cost savings in terms of paying overtime for our staff," he said. For a start, Asmawi said Subang Jaya folk will be notified of their assessment tax via e- statements as well as a hardcopy that will be sent to their homes in January next year. For the assessment tax for the next half of the year, only e-statements will be sent out. Those who want a hardcopy of the statement will be required to pay a fee which will be determined by the council. Those registered with My@MPSJ portal can settle their water bills; book courts, halls or meeting rooms; renew bunting and banner licences, and dog licences; submit MyTech application for planning approval and building renovation and permit; and perform Biz- Wizard, E-Pusara and E-Cis transactions. Asmawi said the My@MPSJ service has been well received. Last year, about 132,000 people visited the headquarters to settle their bills at the counters as compared to 80,000 from January to August this year. As for assessment tax for last year and this year, there has been an 18 per cent drop in the number of people paying at the council's counters from 76,400 to 62,000. At the same time, payments made online or through kiosks have recorded an 11 per cent increase

Support time line Interdeals Automation shall attend to services with the following response time: i) Two (2) hours response time including traveling time if the location of Branch is within fifty (50) km from service centre. ii) Three (3) hours response time including traveling time if the Branch s location is outside fifty (50) km from service centre.
