1 EBERLY COLLEGE UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS The following scholarships are awarded by the Dean s Office of the Eberly College. In order to be considered for one or more of these scholarships for the upcoming academic year, a student should submit an Eberly College Freshman or Undergraduate Scholarship Application by April 1. Arts & Sciences General Scholarship awarded to an undergraduate student enrolled in an Eberly College degree program. No class rank or residency restrictions. John and Dick Anderson Scholarship awarded to an undergraduate student enrolled in an Eberly College or Davis College degree program. Recipient must demonstrate academic promise and financial need. No class rank or residency restrictions. The Barnette Scholarship awarded to an entering freshman who is a graduate of Saint Albans High School (WV) and admitted to an Eberly College major. Recipient must demonstrate academic merit and financial need. The scholarship is renewable if the recipient remains enrolled in good academic standing in the Eberly College. Dr. Jack and Mary Elizabeth Bates Science Scholarship awarded to an Eberly College science major who has a minimum 3.0 grade-point average. No class rank or residency restriction. Louis J. and Mary E. Belcastro Scholarship awarded to a resident of Marion County (WV) enrolled in an Eberly College degree program. Recipient must demonstrate academic promise. Frank and Bernardina Biafora Dean s Leadership Scholarship awarded to a junior or senior who demonstrates academic potential and leadership ability through participation in extracurricular activities and community service. Recipient must be a WV resident and demonstrate financial need. Preference given to political science majors. Linda Biafora for Brenda Biafora Scholarship awarded to an undergraduate student enrolled in an Eberly College major or pre-major with documented behavioral challenges. Recipient selected in consultation with the WVU Office of Accessibility Services. Joseph R. Biafora Scholarship awarded to a junior or senior enrolled in an Eberly College degree program, with preference given to a resident of Harrison, Marion, or Monongalia County (WV). Recipient must demonstrate financial need or special circumstances. Stefi Poluck Biafora Scholarship awarded to a junior or senior enrolled in an Eberly College degree program, with preference given to a WV resident whose family is involved in the coal mining industry. Recipient must demonstrate financial need. Carter Bishop Memorial Scholarship awarded to an English major with sophomore or higher standing who intends to teach English on the secondary or post-secondary level. Recipient must achieve a 3.2 minimum grade-point average and demonstrate financial need. First preference given to graduates of Greenbrier West High School (WV). Second preference to graduates of James Monroe HS, Richwood HS, Nicholas County HS, or Pocahontas County HS.

2 David J. Charnews Memorial Scholarship awarded to a resident of New Jersey enrolled in an Eberly College undergraduate degree program at WVU. Recipient must be in good academic standing and demonstrate financial need. William E and Bonniegail Kucan Coleman Research Scholarship awarded to a major or premajor in the Department of Physics or the Department of Chemistry who is participating in ongoing research with an Eberly College faculty member in one of the University designated research trust fund initiatives. Recipient must demonstrate financial need. Margaret Jackson Deeds Literature Scholarship awarded to an English or English/Secondary Education major who is enrolled full-time and maintains a minimum 3.20 GPA. First preference shall be given is to residents of Wayne or Hancock County, WV. Second preference shall be for any West Virginia resident. Additional preference shall be for students who have served in the U.S. military forces or military reserves. Robert Jess Deeds Natural Science Scholarship may be awarded to an astronomy, biochemistry, biology, chemistry, geography, geology or physics major who is enrolled full-time and maintains a minimum 3.20 GPA. First preference shall be given is to residents of Wayne or Hancock County, WV. Second preference shall be for any West Virginia resident. Additional preference shall be for students who have served in the U.S. military forces or military reserves. Jess & Margaret Deeds Mathematics Scholarship awarded to a Mathematics major who is enrolled full-time and maintains a minimum 3.20 GPA. First preference shall be given is to residents of Wayne or Hancock County, WV. Second preference shall be for any West Virginia resident. Additional preference shall be for students who have served in the U.S. military forces or military reserves. Paul and Jean Divers Scholarship awarded to an undergraduate student enrolled in an Eberly College undergraduate degree program. Recipient must be a WV resident and demonstrate financial need. Dooley Family Scholarship awarded to an undergraduate major or pre-major in the Eberly College who graduated from a Kanawha, McDowell, or Gilmer County high school in WV. Recipient must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need. Preference is given to first generation college students. Eberly Family Arts & Sciences Scholarship awarded to residents of Fayette, Greene, Washington, or Westmoreland counties (PA) enrolled in a major or pre-major in the Eberly College. Recipients must demonstrate academic promise. The scholarship is renewable provided the recipient remains enrolled in good standing in the Eberly College. Fairmont Senior High School Scholarship in Honor of Mike Garrison awarded to an entering freshman who is a graduate of Fairmont Senior High School (WV). Recipient must demonstrate leadership skills and academic potential. Preference is given to students also educated at Fairmont Catholic Grade School.

3 Philip T. and Michal E. Flach Scholarship awarded to a resident of New Jersey enrolled in an Eberly College undergraduate degree program. Recipient must demonstrate financial need and academic promise. French-Hart Family Scholarship awarded to an undergraduate student enrolled in an Eberly College degree program. Recipient must be a resident of West Virginia. Janet Walker Gilmore Memorial Scholarship awarded to an entering freshman who is a graduate of Bridgeport High School (WV) and has been admitted to an Eberly College major or pre-major. Recipient must demonstrate academic merit and financial need. The Green, Connors, and Pierce 67 Scholarship awarded to an undergraduate student enrolled in an Eberly College major or pre-major. Recipient must be a resident of WV in good academic standing, and demonstrate financial need. Paul and Frances Green 67 Scholarship awarded to an undergraduate student enrolled in an Eberly College major or pre-major. Recipient must be a resident of WV in good academic standing and demonstrate financial need. Viola Peggy Lord & Frank Green Memorial Scholarship awarded to a WV resident pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences. Recipient must demonstrate academic promise and financial need. Dale H. Hansen Memorial Scholarship awarded to an undergraduate student majoring in chemistry, math or physics. Recipient must be a WV resident and demonstrate financial need. Elizabeth Gorrell Harris Scholarship awarded to female students enrolled in an Eberly College degree program, with first preference given to graduates of Clay or Kanawha County high schools, and second preference to graduates of other WV high schools. Recipient must demonstrate academic promise and financial need. William E. Hoover Scholarship awarded to an undergraduate student in good standing who is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, world languages, or mathematics. Recipient shall be in top 15% academically of his/her graduating class and demonstrate financial need. Gladys Hoylman King Scholarship awarded to a resident of Greenbrier County (WV) enrolled in an Eberly College degree program. Recipient must demonstrate academic promise and financial need. Preference is given to students with sophomore or higher rank. Olive M and Victor A Kist Scholarship awarded to an entering freshman who is a graduate of a Cambria County or Somerset County high school (PA) and has been admitted to an Eberly College major or pre-major. Recipient is selected on the basis of academic potential and involvement in at least one community-oriented extracurricular activity. The scholarship is renewable provided the student remains enrolled in good academic standing in the Eberly College.

4 Ann Mullen Kline Scholarship awarded to an undergraduate student enrolled in an Eberly College major or pre-major. Recipient must demonstrate academic promise and financial need. Jerry L. Knight Scholarship awarded to an undergraduate student from Pleasants County (WV) enrolled in an Eberly College degree program. Recipient must demonstrate academic promise and financial need. Mary R. Laidley Memorial Scholarship awarded to entering freshmen who graduate from a WV high school and are admitted to a major in the Eberly College. Recipients must demonstrate academic merit and financial need. The scholarship is renewable if student remains enrolled in the Eberly College, completes at least 24 credit hours per year, and maintains a minimum 2.75 GPA in freshman year and a 3.0 GPA thereafter. Clifford Garrett Lantz Scholarship awarded to a senior political science, philosophy, or economics major who intends to pursue a law degree after the completion of undergraduate degree. Preference given to students who have made application to the WVU College of Law. Domenico and Alessandrina Lippucci Scholarship awarded to a rising junior or senior enrolled in an Eberly College degree program. Recipient must demonstrate academic promise and financial need. No residency restriction. John A. Malcomb Scholarship awarded to Eberly College majors with junior or senior rank. Recipient must be a West Virginia resident. Preference given to students from Upshur County. John Donley McCartney Memorial Scholarship awarded to an Eberly College major with sophomore rank. Recipient must demonstrate financial need and high academic promise based on freshman year performance. Dr. Gerald T. McInerney Scholarship awarded to an Eberly College major, with preference given to student with sophomore rank. Recipient must demonstrate academic merit and financial need. McKay Coast Scholarship awarded to undergraduate students majoring in English, history, mathematics, or philosophy. No class rank or residency restrictions. McNabb Presidential Scholarship awarded to a WV resident who is enrolled in an Eberly College major or pre-major at WVU. Recipient shall demonstrate academic promise as defined by the University's Presidential Scholarship guidelines. William Joseph Moore & Henrietta Trasp Moore Scholarship awarded to an undergraduate student enrolled in an Eberly College major and pre-major. Recipient must demonstrate academic promise and financial need. No rank or residency restrictions. Morrissey-Ropp Scholarship awarded to science and mathematics students working with a faculty member to advance research in any of the approved WVU Research Initiatives which includes energy and environmental sciences; nanotechnology and materials science; biological,

5 biotechnological and biomedical sciences; and biometrics, security, sensing, forensic sciences and related identification technologies. Carrol H. Quenzel Scholarship awarded on the basis of academic merit to students majoring in the humanities (English, history, philosophy, religious studies, world languages). Dr. Albert M. Reese Scholarship awarded to an undergraduate biology major or pre-major. Recipient shall demonstrate financial need. Rosarina Roperti Research Scholarship -- awarded to an Eberly College undergraduate or graduate student who is participating in ongoing medical research with a faculty member of Biology, Chemistry, or Physics. Recipient shall be in good academic standing. John & Elaine Saladini Biology Scholarship awarded to a WV resident who is an undergraduate biology major. Recipient must demonstrate academic promise and financial need. Dr. Eugene P. Salvati Family Scholarship awarded to a student enrolled in an Eberly College major who demonstrates financial need. No rank or residency restrictions. Catherine Chico Sellaro Scholarship awarded to a West Virginia resident of Italian-American heritage majoring in a science field in the Eberly College. Recipient must have sophomore or higher standing and a minimum 2.50 GPA. Frances Anthony Sparagna III Scholarship awarded to a student enrolled in an Eberly College degree program who has a documented physical or learning disability. No class rank or residency restriction. Recipient selected in consultation with the WVU Office of Accessibility Services. Stanczak/Lamb Family Scholarship awarded to an undergraduate student enrolled in an Eberly College degree program who demonstrates academic achievement and financial need. First preference is given to residents of Lewis County (WV). Second preference is given to non-resident students who have at least one parent who graduated from WVU. William and Jean Swales Scholarship awarded to entering freshmen who graduate for a WV high school and are admitted to a major in the Eberly College. Recipient must demonstrate financial need and be an average student (academically). The scholarship is intended to cover full tuition and fees and books, and is renewable for up to three years if student remains enrolled fulltime in an Eberly College degree program and maintains a minimum 2.20 GPA. Susan J. Tewalt Geology Scholarship awarded to an undergraduate geology major or pre-major. Recipient shall demonstrate financial need and be in good academic standing. Dr. Isaiah A. and June R. Wiles Scholarship awarded to a junior or senior biology major from Preston County (WV), with preference to students who plan to enter a health service profession and/or public service. January 2016
