1 SOCIETY OF WOMEN ENGINEERS 2016 COLLEGIATE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION Although female participation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields has increased greatly in the past several decades, females are still a minority in STEM professions. According to the National Science Foundation, in 2010 women accounted for half of the college educated work-force, but only 28% of the workforce employed in science and engineering. The Society of Women Engineers New York Section (SWE-NY) has an outstanding reputation for supporting female professionals and female students involved in STEM by providing resources to help them succeed. SWE-NY has hosted panel discussions and webinars, organized community service activities such as K-12 educational programs and provided professional mentors for student chapters. Their most recent endeavor is providing financial assistance in the form of educational scholarships. The intent of the scholarships is to reward collegiate females for excelling in the field of engineering and encourage them to continue pursuing their goals. SWE-NY will offer multiple scholarships. Recipients will be selected on a point system based on their academic excellence, involvement in activities outside of the classroom, and their dedication to STEM fields. Applicants will only be eligible to receive a SWE-NY scholarship once in their academic career. Scholarship recipients will also be featured in the SWE-NY Newsletter. The Scholarship Recipient will receive their award at the Annual SWE-NY Golf Outing held in early June. Please be as thorough as possible when completing the application. Point Allotment: Academic Success: 20 points Extracurricular Involvement & Work Experience: 20 points Short Answers: 25 points Essay: 35 points TOTAL = 100 points

Applicants will be notified of the selection results on or before May 16, ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS To be eligible, applicants must meet the following qualifications: 1) Be a female enrolled in an ABET accredited engineering school in New York City, Long Island, or the Greater New York Area. A list of ABET accredited schools is available on the SWE-NY website: 2) Be entering your, 2 nd year, 3 rd year or 4 th year of collegiate studies or in a Graduate Program in the Fall Semester of 2016 a. Students entering their 5 th year of collegiate studies in the Fall Semester of 2016 enrolled in a co-op program are eligible b. Students transferring into an ABET accredited engineering school are eligible upon proof of transfer enrollment and submission of an official transcript from the prior school 3) Overall GPA and difficulty of courses will be considered. 4) Be a U.S. Citizen or a U.S. Resident and intend to make New York State her home and/or career area. 5) Must be SWE Student Member
