We trust that you have had a wonderful Easter and have enjoyed the 2 week holiday. The Vikings are coming On Thursday, 3S, 3L and 4S had an exciting day because we got to build a Viking Longship! A person from Architectural Workshops called Martin came to build the boat with us. We constructed the long-ship by making 3D shapes. We used triangular-based pyramids and then attached them all together. The materials we used were sticks and elastic bands. It was quite tricky at times! Once we had built our boat, we played some games in it and some of us got thrown overboard! It was great fun sailing on the North Sea. We had a great day and I hope we do something like that again. By Edie W, 4S Year 3 and 4 PE / Games PE / Games at Dunottar This initiative is going well and gives our pupils the use of amazing facilities supported by Dunottar s Young Leaders. Just to remind you of dates: 3L (gymnastics) and 4S (hockey) at Dunottar Thursday: April 21st, 28th, May 5th, 12th All 3 classes (athletics) to Dunottar Thursday: May 19th, 26th, June 9th, 16th, 30th Please make sure your child is in school by 8.45am and has full PE kit with track suit trousers and wellington boots when walking to Dunottar. As there is no swimming this half term, PE will be taught on Friday afternoon. Please ensure your child has full kit in school.

2 Football Results On Wednesday 23rd March, twelve schools participated in the annual end of season tournament at Sandcross School. Our first group game was against Reigate Priory who had won all 11 league games this season. A magnificent defensive display looked like resulting in a goalless draw until injury time when Priory were awarded a penalty which they converted. Against St Joseph's, we could not find the net but we earned our first point with a 0-0 draw. A great performance in our following game versus Meath Green resulted in a 1-0 win with the goal coming from Thomas M. Another 0-0 draw against Salfords meant that the final game with Merstham was a must win and win we did with a goal from Freddie F! This meant that we finished second in our group of six and set up a semi-final against Wray Common. Despite another battling performance Wray Common were too strong and we lost 2-0. The same result in the third place play off against Priory meant that St John's finished the tournament in 4th place which was very impressive. Well done to Tom W, Freddie F, Thomas M, James G, Nate H, Michael C, Jack H, Freddie S and Flynn M. The squad, which included Jack T, finished 6th in the league (2nd out of the small schools) so all in all a successful season. The Big Pedal Get set we re taking part in the Big Pedal 2016, a giant inter-school cycling and scooting competition encouraging children, staff and parents to choose two wheels for their daily commute! The event is powered by Sustrans (sustrans.org.uk), and it s happening from 18th to 29th April. It s totally FREE to enter, and we d love everyone to be involved. The details We ll be competing against other schools right across the UK, and if we clock up the most bike and scooter journeys, we ll win prizes for our school!! Why we ve signed up We think it s a fantastic way to get more of our pupils on their bikes and scooters and have fun getting to school. And it ll be great to compete to become one of the UK s top schools for two-wheeled journeys, not to mention our chance to win some brilliant prizes. We think you ll enjoy less congestion outside our school gates too! Dr Bike Be sure to bring your bike in on Wedneday 20th April as we have Dr Bike from 'C&N Cycles' coming into school to give your child s bike the full once over and apply any maintenance that needs doing. What s next? All you need to do is encourage your child(ren) to cycle or scoot to school every day during the event, and join them on their way parent and sibling journeys count too!

Second Hand Uniform Sale for Shonda Friday, 22 nd April at 3.00pm This is an opportunity to buy quality second hand uniform at very low prices. If you wish to donate any outgrown, clean uniform, please place in bags on the table under the Junior Shelter before the sale. And finally. Have a Bug Busting Weekend! It has come to our attention that some of the children in the school have headlice. We are therefore requesting that all children in your family have their hair checked. There is no need to buy expensive chemical based products. Try following these simple instructions if you have never done this before. Remember that the youngest pre-school children are often most susceptible, so check their hair as well. Head Lice are easily missed in dry hair and do not necessarily itch. Use your normal shampoo and rinse. Put a generous amount of ordinary conditioner over the whole head. Use a fine-toothed nit comb (preferably metal) purchased from the chemists. Divide the hair and comb each section, gently touching scalp and roots. Check the comb for lice between each stroke, rinse then wipe on kitchen paper towel. Rinse well and then leave the hair wet the wetter the better! Repeat the combing process one more time. Check the hair four days later and on every fourth day for two weeks.

6 The closing date for all completed applications is midday on 20th May Auditions will take place between 21st May and 12th June Filming will take place for two consecutive weeks between 18th July and 14th August Children must be between the ages of 9 and 13 years during the production period of 18th July to 31st August 2016 (so born between 1st September 2002 and 18th July 2007) and have the right to reside in the UK, Republic of Ireland, Channel Islands or Isle of Man to be eligible to apply
