Mashrek raises individuals to become proud of their identity, responsible and productive citizens in their country and the whole world as well. Characteristics of a Mashrek Student A Mashrek student is dedicated to academics, organized and well groomed. He/She values the school and its property, respects staff and peers, abides by the school s regulations and is punctual. 4 Dear Parents, The Activities Department at Mashrek International School is proud to present parents with an overview of the Activities Programme for the scholastic year. In doing so, we make sure that mutual communication is established for the benefit of our students. We will also take into consideration any comments or feedback parents may have. At Mashrek, we believe that a student`s involvement in an activity is extremely important for the process of growth and the development of skills and abilities. Your child has the option of participating in any athletic, musical or cultural activity under the supervision of professional coaches, teachers and in cooperation with various specialized centers. 6 Mashrek International School s Activities Programme for the Scholastic Year The Activities Programme is divided into the below categories: 1- School Teams: This includes the school s sports and musical teams. Members are selected through tryouts and auditions by qualifying and meeting specific requirements. The school provides training as well as transportation back home for all team members. 2- School Clubs: These clubs include a variety of optional sports, musical and cultural activities, which are offered by the school in order to improve specific skills related to the chosen activities. 3- Mashrek Little League: Is an annual optional activity, where participating students are divided into teams sponsored by companies, according to their age category. The aim of this activity is to improve students skills in order to progress through a fun, social and supportive atmosphere and potentially join the teams in the future. Improvement and changes for this year: - Upgrading the Chinese (Mandarin) Language Programme to include Level HSK1. - A new activity Stop-Motion Workshop has been added to the Activities Programme for grades 1-6 students. 8 1.1. Requirements for School Teams Memberships: In order to maintain a membership in any of Mashrek s Teams, a student should: - Demonstrate the Characteristics of a Mashrek Student - Qualify for the tryouts at the beginning of the year - Maintain a high level of performance according to each team s standards - Attend all the team s training sessions and not be absent without prior permission - Keep his/her scholastic achievement above average - Wear the team`s uniform when appropriate - Represent Mashrek at tournaments or events assigned by the school - Not participate in more than two school teams, in order to maintain a balance between academics and team training Activities Department /2017

10 1.3. Teams Registration: Those who wish to join the school s teams should be present at the assigned time to attend the tryouts and hand in the application form to the Activities Department. This should be done no later than Tuesday 8/9/2015. Teams training will start on Sunday 25/9/2016. Teams Regulations: - The Activities Programme regulations apply to team members. Each team s specific rules and regulations will be handed out to those who pass the tryouts, in order to be read and signed by the students with their parents and to be returned to the Department. Understanding the regulations is an important factor in the success of the Programme. Consequently, the regulations will be strictly implemented. - We will inform the team members parents of any changes made to the training schedule. - Track and Field Team training will usually be held on Saturdays at the Petra Stadium in Al Hussein Sports City and the school provides transportation for the team members Teams Transportation: - The school provides transportation for all teams members back to their homes after training. - School bus rules and regulations apply at all times. - There are no bus custodians to accompany teams members during bus routes following tournaments, after the regular activities period has ended. School Clubs: Mashrek clubs are supervised by professional coaches and tutors through which we aim to develop our students` skills in that particular activity, in order to potentially join a school team. Our school clubs are divided into: A- Sports Clubs: Taekwondo, Basketball, Gymnastics and Ballet B- Cultural Clubs: Drawing, and Chinese (Mandarin Language) - Drawing classes are supervised by the Young Rembrandts Center. - Chinese classes are supervised by the Chinese Teaching Center. - Stop-Motion workshop is supervised by the Animation Workshop. 3. Mashrek Little League: This activity is for Mashrek students from grades 1 to 6. Participating students will be divided into three categories according to their age group: A- Juniors 1: Grades 1 & 2 B- Juniors 2: Grades 3 & 4 C- Seniors: Grades 5 & 6 Each category will include 3 to 4 teams named according to their sponsor company. Every team will have 2 training sessions per week, immediately after school hours and a soccer coach will be appointed for each team. Matches between teams will take place on Fridays and will be held at the main playground and the gym. They will have 6 tournaments according to the matches schedules and we will provide you with more details later on. Activities Department /2017

13 Registration in the School Clubs and Little League: - Registration forms for school clubs and Little League will be distributed starting on Tuesday 30/8/2016. Registration for the first semester activities will be from 31/8/2016-8/9/2016 and this should be done by handing in the application form with the required fees to the Accounting Department. - Little League and school clubs` registration should only be done through the Accounting Department. - Each activity has limited capacity; therefore, registration will be on a first come first serve basis. We would like parents to confirm registration by paying their child s/children s chosen activity fees to the Accounting Department. - An activity will be cancelled if the required minimum number of students is not attained. Registration Fees: - There are no registration fees for the school teams members. The training expenses are covered by the school. - Mashrek Little League Basketball registration fees are 110 JD per semester and Mashrek Little League Football registration fees are 100 JD per semester. - KG students fees for school clubs per semester will be according to the following: Taekwondo* Ballet 120 JD 60 JD Basketball 60 JD Violin 110 JD Gymnastics 60 JD Soccer 60 JD Drawing 110 JD - Grades 1-12 students fees for the school clubs per semester will be according to the below schedule: Football Guitar Gymnastics Basketball Ballet Taekwondo 110 JD 110 JD 110JD 110JD 110JD 120 JD Chinese YCT1, YCT2,YCT3, HSK1 Drawing Violin 110 JD 110 JD (For the whole scholastics year) 110 JD 110 JD * The Taekwondo activity fees include the end of semester evaluation fees in Stop-Motion Animation Workshop order to obtain a new belt. 14 Transportation during Training Days: - Transportation is free for all teams members and students already registered in the bus, during their assigned training days. - Students who are not registered in the school buses but wish to use transportation only during activity days are required to register for those activity days. Parents should kindly arrange to make a payment of 50JD per semester for any activity consisting of 20 lessons and 25 JD per semester for any activity consisting of 10 lessons to the Accounting Department for each activity. - We are not able to provide transportation on Fridays. Therefore, parents are kindly requested to arrange their child s/children s transportation on Fridays. 15 Rules and Regulations for those who would like to join the Activities Programme: - Outdoor activities will be cancelled on rainy days and we will inform parents by SMS (text messages). - Participating students should abide by the time and location of the selected activity. - Duty teachers supervision during the activity period on weekdays ends at 4:05pm and on Saturdays at 11:00am for period (A) and at 12:45pm for period (B).Therefore, we kindly request that parents of non-bus students take these times into consideration and pick up their children on time. - The school classroom rules apply during training sessions too. Therefore, it is not allowed for students to have guests accompany them to training sessions. - It is prohibited for students not participating in any activities to stay at school during that time without previous permission (only in necessary cases). - The Administration has the right to replace any coach/teacher at any time if necessary. - In case of any injury during the activity period, the below procedure will be followed: A. The School Clinic is responsible for following up on emergency incidents at the school, in addition to the annual physical, dental and eye checkups. B. Students must obtain a note from the nurse after visiting the Clinic. C. If a student is injured, he/she is strictly prohibited from leaving on the bus. The School Nurse will immediately contact his/her parents, in order to make alternative transportation arrangements. Activities Department /2017

16 KG Parents Specific Regulations: - Parents who would like to accompany their child after the activity period are kindly requested to do so from inside the KG building rather than from the activity training area. - KG students are allowed to register in one activity only. - In case any parents would like to attend their child s/children s activity training, they are kindly requested to inform the KG Administration in advance. 21 Mashrek Little League Schedule First Semester: - Tryout matches will be held on Fridays, and we will provide you with each specific time later on. - The 3 rd Annual Mashrek Little League Basketball will take place from 9/10/2016 to 18/11/ Members` commitments in other school activities will be taken into consideration when setting the Little League teams training schedules, which will be handed out within 4 days after the tryouts. - Registration Fees are 110 JD. Mashrek Little League Schedule Second Semester: - Tryout matches dates and times will be determined at a later stage. - The 21 th Annual Mashrek Little League Football will take place between 26/3/2017 to 12/5/ Members` commitments in other school activities will be taken into consideration when setting the Little League teams training schedules, which will be handed out within 4 days after the tryouts. - Registration Fees are 100 JD. General Notes: - Kindly abide by the time and location of the selected activity. We suggest hanging the schedule up at home to prevent missing or confusing an activity time or location. Parents will be informed in case of an activity cancellation. - Parents of non-bus students are requested to be punctual when picking up their child/children after the end of an activity. - The Summer Camp Programme will be determined during May For further inquiries, kindly contact the Activities extensions 132/133.
