There are many different types f schlarships, which have different eligibility criteria, selectin criteria, and methds f applying There isn t a central resurce yu can use t find every single schlarship yu may be eligible fr. Yu will need t becme an investigatr and take the time t search thrugh Gvernment sites Tertiary Institute Websites Tertiary Institute Schlarship Brchures Myfuture Schlarships Database, and Internet Search Engines This may take yu a cnsiderable amunt f time, but it will be wrth it if yu can secure a schlarship, especially if yu have t mve away frm hme t study. BE IN IT TO WIN IT Because it is s time cnsuming, many students dn t apply fr schlarships. Yu may feel the same way, but yu have t be in it t win it. Yur parents/ guardians can help yu by searching as well and supprting yu thrugh the prcess If yu are eligible fr a Centrelink benefit such as Yuth Allwance, yu will autmatically receive the Q Student Start-up Schlarship. If yu have t mve mre than 90kms away t study yur curse, yu will receive the Relcatin Allwance. The rules arund eligibility are cnfusing and culd pssibly change. Ring the Centrelink Yuth and Student Services line n and ask them fr an appintment with yur parents/ guardians t find ut if yu are eligible. 2 STEP 2a- UAC SCHOLARSHIPS TERTIARY ADMISSION CENTRE SCHOLARSHIPS The majrity f University curses in NSW are applied fr via the University Admissins Centre (UAC), which is an nline database. TAFE curses are applied fr directly t the institutin. Participating Universities enable yu t apply fr their equity schlarships thrugh cmpleting an nline frm which cllects persnal infrmatin that assists the Universities t assess yur eligibility. This needs t be cmpleted nline by mid Octber. G t fr mre infrmatin STEP 2b- VTAC SCHOLARSHIPS Schlarships frm participating Universities thrugh UAC & VTAC ELIGIBILITY Yes if yu have applied fr a curse frm ne f the participating institutins Yu dn t need t knw if yu are eligible fr any schlarships, yu just put in yur details and the Universities will wrk it ut fr yu. The majrity f University and TAFE curses in Victria are applied fr via the Victrian Tertiary Admissins Centre (VTAC), which is an nline database. All Universities except fr the University f Melburne (apply direct) and Australian Cathlic University (apply thrugh UAC) enable yu t apply fr selected schlarships thrugh cmpleting a frm n the VTAC website. The actual schlarships aren t listed n the site and yu dn t need t knw if yu are eligible fr them. Yu just select which Universities yu are applying t and fill ut an nline frm This needs t be cmpleted by Friday 21 Octber. G t fr mre infrmatin ELIGIBLE VTAC Apply thrugh between 6 August and 19 Octber Lg in t MyInf, enter yur VTAC ID number and pin. Click n schlarships. Fill ut each sectin and click submit Pst any required paper wrk t VTAC by Friday 19 Octber ELIGIBLE UAC Apply thrugh between 8 August and Friday 28 September (TBC) Fllw the links and yu will receive a schlarships ID and Pin. Fill ut each sectin and click submit. Dwnlad any required paper fr evidence (i.e., rural) Pst the paper wrk by the clsing date.

3 STEP 3- INSTITUTION SCHOLARSHIPS STEP 4- OTHER SCHOLARSHIPS Each University, TAFE r Private Cllege yu apply fr will have schlarships listed n their website. Yu simply put the name f the Institutin and the wrd int an Internet search engine and the link shuld cme straight up. I.e., RMIT Schlarships Yu will need t search thrugh the schlarships that are relevant t yu. These culd include Undergraduate Faculty (i.e., health) Campus Memrial/ Bequeathed Accmmdatin Yu will need t read ver each ne, checking the eligibility criteria and hw t apply. There will be different clsing dates and methds n hw t apply. Once yu have exhausted yur ptins thrugh Centrelink and the Institutins yu have applied fr, and yu have wrked ut whether yu will be eligible fr a Centrelink benefit, yu will need t find all the ther schlarships flating arund in cyber space. There are all kinds- everything frm the Defence Frce t the Timber Merchants Sciety t Rural Female t Industry Cadetships. The central schlarships database fr Australia is n the myfuture website- G t the Facts then click n schlarships and awards. Yu can use the search engine t lk fr schlarships. INSTITUTION SCHOLARSHIPS Schlarships ffered by the Institutins yu have applied t. OTHER SCHOLARSHIPS This includes all ther schlarships yu may be eligible fr, including cadetships. G the schlarships hmepage f the Institutins yu have applied t and explre yur ptins. If yu find a schlarship, yu need t find ut hw t apply fr it. If it says yu need t apply thrugh VTAC, yu have already dne this thrugh step 2 G t then click n the facts, then click n schlarships and awards. Yu will be able t search fr schlarships via the search engine. Direct Entry: Yu will need t apply fr the schlarship directly t the University. Yu may have t apply via an applicatin frm r nline prtal. Make sure t check yur lcal and natinal newspapers fr schlarships and als cntact yur lcal cuncil.

4 COMMONWEALTH SCHOLARSHIPS The Cmmnwealth Schlarships Prgram cnsists f tw main schlarships, which aim t increase the participatin f lw sci-ecnmic status students int higher educatin study. Student Start-up Schlarship: $2194 per yr fr up t 4 yrs (2011 amunt, indexed annually). Must be receiving a Centrelink benefit and it is guaranteed t thse students wh are. Relcatin Schlarships: $4124 fr the first year and $1031 per yr after that fr up t 3 yrs. Yu must be receiving a Centrelink benefit and have t mve away frm hme t attend tertiary educatin. Fr eligibility criteria, g t STATE GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIPS In areas f Natinal Pririty Skills Shrtages, smetimes State Gvernment s will ffer Schlarships. Fr example, Queensland Health and NSW Health ffer Allied Health Schlarships Yu find this infrmatin n the individual Institutin websites and the State Gvernment Department websites LOCAL GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIPS Lcal Gvernments smetimes ffer reginal area schlarships. Usually, the schlarship recipient needs t reside in the area. Cntact yur lcal / reginal gvernment ffice INSTITUTION SCHOLARSHIPS Institutins usually have several categries f schlarships. Belw are examples. Names fr the categries vary between institutins and mst schlarships are pen between July and the end f September. a) Access/ Equity/ Diversity: Prvides pprtunities fr students frm disadvantaged backgrunds t access curses. Yu generally apply thrugh VTAC/ UAC fr these schlarships b) Indigenus: Prvides pprtunities fr Indigenus students t access curses. c) Academic Merit/ Academic Excellence: Financially rewards high achieving yr 12 students. Yu ften dn t need t apply fr these schlarships as yu will be autmatically cnsidered fr ne based n yur ATAR. d) Curse Schlarship: The curse yu wuld like t apply fr may have it s wn schlarship e) Campus: Sme Universities like LaTrbe Uni ffer Campus wide schlarships. f) Faculty Schlarships: A Faculty is a department at an institutin which is dedicated t a particular area f study i.e., Faculty f Health Sciences. Faculties ften have their wn schlarships t encurage and enable students t access t their curses. g) Rural/ Reginal/ Relcatin Schlarships: Aims t encurage students frm reginal areas t apply fr their curses. Sme schlarships like Rural Medical Bnded Schlarships will require yu t wrk in a rural area after yu have finished yur curse and thers will prvide yu financial relcatin assistance. h) Sprt Schlarships: Fr talented and elite athletes i) Accmmdatin Schlarships: Many student Clleges and Residences have schlarships

5 INDUSTRY SCHOLARSHIPS BONDED SCHOLARSHIPS Sme industry bdies/ cmpanies/ sectrs can ffer spnsrships at a selected r multiple institutins. There are usually mre industry schlarships ffered in study areas f Natinal skills shrtages such as Nursing, Engineering and IT. Yu can cntact Industry yurself and ask if they will spnsr yu fr sme f yur Uni fees. They may make a dnatin r prvide sme paid wrk experience. Sme institutins ffer Bnded schlarships, where yu enter int a cntract stating that yu will meet certain bligatins in return fr the schlarship. Fr example, yu may be bnded t wrk fr a certain cmpany r wrk in a rural area fr a perid f time nce yu cmplete yur curse. Yu will find infrmatin abut these schlarships n the institutin websites COOPERATIVE SCHOLARSHIPS MEMORIAL/ SPONSORED C-perative schlarships are frmed when an institutin, industry bdy and a student enter int a partnership where the student will study at the institutin in a specified curse, the industry bdy will ffer sme financial assistance t the student and the student will agree t undertake graduate emplyment r further training at the cmpany fr a specified amunt f time. There are numerus memrial and persnally spnsred schlarships all ver the cuntry. It is difficult t find all the nes relevant t yu, but a gd place t start is the institute website r thrugh searching Yu will find infrmatin abut these schlarships n the institutin websites CADETSHIPS These are like Apprenticeships where yu undertake study and als n the jb training. Yu will generally be emplyed and paid a wage by a cmpany and undertake part time r blck release study at an institutin. Areas like Finance, Jurnalism, Engineering and Accunting generally have Cadetships. Check the newspapers and Ggle fr advertisements
