2 Can you handle it? This scholarship challenge is for committed students dedicated to exploring the cultural face of Europe. Who can attempt it? College of Design undergraduate students at the thirdyear level or above and College of Design graduate students. How it works Interested students should review the Challenge and then submit a Proposal Application to the College of Design Scholarship Committee. The scholarship will be awarded only to students whose Proposal Applications demonstrate a rigorous commitment and intention to meeting the Challenge. One selected student will receive $1500 to get them to Europe and get them started. What you do: The selected student will visit various significant cultural and design-relevant sites in several cities some required in the Challenge and some identified in the student s application. The scope of the itinerary is designed to be completed in days. Within one month of completion of the trip, the student must submit a pictorial and written Documentary Report of the experience to the Dean s office of the College. These Documentary Reports will be archived in the College of Design Library.

3 THE CHALLENGE Part One: Part Two: Part Three: Itinerary Design a travel itinerary by completing the Proposal Application. Use the Rules and Choices to create a travel plan that best suits your adventurer s ambitions. Completion of the Itinerary is required, so plan carefully. Travel Hit the road! Explore. Investigate. Encounter. Look. Listen. Contemplate. Document your experience: sketch, write, collect, make. Report Once you re back and you ve caught your breath, you have one month to put the pieces together. Create a Documentary Report of your travel experience. Not a boring slide show or scrapbook, but a meaningful document of your experience. Include drawings, journal entries, photos, poetry, postcards, subway tickets, museum tickets, fingerprints of strangers, even counterfeit art masterpieces-whatever it is that defines and synthesizes your travel and cultural experience.
