3 Team Pit Area Pit Area 1 - Small Gym at the end of the Cafeteria for Teams Pit Area 2 - Tech Classroom just off of the Registration Area for Teams The pit area is where each team will be provided a table to set your robot, supplies, coats and presentation props for the day. This is also where your team can hang out between robot matches and judging Interviews. Your table will have a table tent with your team number on it so that you know which table is yours. Space is limited, so please keep your area orderly as a sign of your gracious professionalism. There will be five CHARGING Stations around the Small Gym and two CHARGING Stations in the Tech Classroom for plugging in your robot or laptop to charge or to make changes to your robot programming. For safety reasons, we ask that you use these charging stations for power and do not bring extension cords to run power to your table. You may bring a power strip to give you some space from other teams in the charging area. Competition Layout Many rooms will be utilized for different activities during the competition. Please see the official map on the website to get familiarized with the various competition areas. All of the judging Rooms are located near the Registration area in the North End of the middle School and will be clearly marked. The Robot Matches will take place on the floor of the Big Gym about in the middle between the judging interview classrooms and the Small Gym Team Pit Area. The map of the Lewis Central Middle School Building is available for downloading or viewing on the FLL Regional website. Time Management It will be extremely important to make sure that your team is running on schedule throughout the day. Make sure that you and your team are aware of competition times and places and that you have a plan to arrive prepared and ready to go. Plan to arrive for your next robot match or judging interview at least 5 minutes before the scheduled time. Team information Sheet Each team may complete the Team Information Sheet which gives a little info on each area of their work during the season; Robot Design Info, Project Info, Core Values/Teamwork Info and Fun Facts about your team. You can also include team, coaches, mentors, and your robots name along with a Team picture. If you do fill out this form, Please bring copies to share in each of your judging sessions and one for the team to use to remind them of the key points before they go in to each interview. Project Judging

4 2015 Council Bluffs FLL Regional Qualifier If you need an LCD projector and sound, that will be provided for you and a laptop will be available for teams to load a PowerPoint or other presentation on the PC Laptop computer that is available. It will have PowerPoint 2010 installed on the laptop. You will need to load your presentation from a memory stick or what usually is a better option, bring your presentation ready to go on your own laptop and hook up to the VGA monitor connection to the overhead projector mounted in the room. IF YOU HAVE A MAC, make sure that you bring an adapter to hook up to the VGA Projector connection. Remember that your five minute presentation time begins as the team enters the room to set up and present. During your presentation, a room timer will hold up a sign at 1 minute left and thirty seconds left and then say stop when the five minutes are up. You will not be able to present beyond your five minute presentation time, but don t worry, if for some reason you haven t finished, you will have time to share any remaining information during your five minute visit with the presentation judges. They will usually end with, asking if there was anything else you would like to share about your project where you could share any other info that didn t get shared during the presentation time. Practice to be under the five minute time frame is best. It s all about decision making. You will need to bring all of your own props with you for your presentation. 3 chairs will be provided in case you need any chairs during the presentation. If you have any other needs, plan to bring them with you. If you have any questions about the presentation interview, please If you have any questions about our facilities for your interviews, please contact me, Spectators will be allowed to watch the Project judging. A Reminder for your presentation, if relying on Technology, DON T TRUST IT, always bring paper copies of your screens in case of any issue with the technology. The area where you will be performing your Project Presentation is at the front of a classroom with approximate space of about 15 feet across by 10 foot deep. Core Value/Teamwork Judging Team members will receive an activity that they must do as a team. Then the judges will visit with them about their teamwork in the activity and throughout the season as they worked on robots and their research project and in just having fun together. Only team members are allowed into the core values portion of the competition. Sorry coaches, family, friends and spectators are not allowed to participate in viewing the team participate in this judging interview with the judges. Robot Design Judging

5 Bring your robot and be ready to run your robot to accomplish the missions you have programmed during the first five minutes of your time with the judges. You can explain your strategies and it is helpful to have printouts of your programs to share with judges or be ready to explain your steps in programming your robot for missions. Share how the robot has changed from the beginning of the season until the Regional FLL Event and share any attachments you built to help the robot accomplish missions. The judges may ask questions throughout the time, but your first five minutes are your time to share your robot building design and programming process. Robot Game Matches in the Big Gym You are responsible for knowing and following the rules. Please make sure you have reviewed the challenge updates at Wireless Internet Wireless internet will be available throughout the building using the LC Guest Network. The network does timeout every 15 minutes, so you will need to re-enter the username and password.
