1 Level Guides, Position Descriptions Introduction This section includes the following: Level Guides set forth the criteria (i.e., the experience, education, skills, duties/tasks, and supervision given/received) typically used to distinguish between or among the various levels of a job. Position Descriptions include the current benchmark job description used by participants to facilitate job matching. Global Grades are the end result of a systematic approach developed by Watson Wyatt Worldwide. They were designed to support survey job matching on a consistent worldwide basis. The structure has been applied to each job and job family currently found in this survey. Included is a map which diagrams the structure.

2 Level Guides Level Guide PROF4 Experience Knowledge Responsibilities Usually Reports to Level 1 - Entry/Junior 0-2 years professional experience. Entry level for employees with Bachelor's Degree or equivalent. OR For legal positions, those with J.D. or LL.B. or equivalent Level 2 - Intermediate 2-5 years professional experience. Level 3 - Senior 5-8 years professional experience. Fully competent professional - the first career level in the ladder (i.e., it is expected that all competent professionals will reach this level). Level 4 - Lead More than 8 years professional experience. Management is typically the next higher level. Knows fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of particular field of specialization. Knows and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of particular field of specialization. Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of particular field of specialization to the completion of difficult assignments. For legal positions, specializes in a particular area, such as litigation, tax, patent, etc. Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of particular field of specialization to the completion of complex assignments. For legal positions, is fully qualified in a particular area, such as in litigation, tax, patent, etc. Using established procedures and working under immediate supervision, performs assigned tasks. Work is routine and instructions are usually detailed. Little evaluation, originality or ingenuity is required. For legal positions, may prepare briefs and documents or draw up contracts for review and evaluation by others. Under supervision, performs work that is varied and that may be somewhat difficult in character, but usually involves limited responsibility. Some evaluation, originality or ingenuity is required. Usually works with minimum supervision, conferring with superior on unusual matters. May be assisted by Entry/Junior or Intermediate Level personnel. Assignments are broad in nature, usually requiring originality and ingenuity. Has appreciable latitude for unreviewed action or decision. Generally, the subordinate group performs a single task or multiple, but closely related tasks. Supervision is provided directly or through group leaders (Level 1 supervisors). Plant supervisors at this level generally supervise only one shift and/or area of the plant. The subordinate group may be nonexempt and/or exempt. Oversees the day-to-day operations of a group of employees. Responsible for training and development of subordinate staff, estimating personnel needs, assigning work, meeting completion dates, interpreting and ensuring consistent application of organizational policies. Under FLSA, incumbents in this position meet the criteria for exempt status. Level 3 - Descriptive Titles: Senior Supervisor, General Foreperson, Assistant Manager/Department Head This is the highest level of supervisor. In some staff positions, a function (with no subordinate staff) may be managed. In addition to Level 2 responsibilities, supervisors at this level have impact on budgeting, controlling costs, planning, scheduling, and procedural change.

May negotiate with third party providers Logistics Manager Global Grade(s): Manages and coordinates several logistics management functions for a unit/division, including: vendor relations, shipping and/or receiving, inventory management, warehousing, purchasing, and transportation. Manages the development of forecast and inventory planning in anticipation of customer needs and in accordance with the organization's sales and service objectives. May work with suppliers and customers to establish best supply chain solutions Demand Planner Global Grade(s): 9-13 Develops and maintains sales forecasts and inventory plans in anticipation of customer needs and in accordance with the company's sales and service objectives. Production/Inventory Management 5745 Top Production and Inventory Management Executive Global Grade(s): Plans, directs and controls all production and inventory control functions, including master scheduling and production planning. May have responsibility for multiple locations Production Planning and Control Manager Global Grade(s): Manages all activities associated with establishing production schedules and ensures that actual production meets scheduled requirements. Controls various load factors to ensure maximum utilization of available capacity taking into account available labor, tools, and equipment. Coordinates production operations with the requirements for finished products and the needs for materials and labor Production Planning and Control Supervisor Global Grade(s): 8-13 Supervises employees who plan manufacturing and production schedules for individual departments and operations. Checks actual against scheduled production. Alters schedules to meet unforeseen conditions. Controls load factors and flow of work to ensure maximum use of available capacity and effective use of labor, tools and equipment. Coordinates production operations with requirements for finished products and needs for materials and labor. 6 Code Production/Inventory Management (continued) 6280 Capacity Planner Global Grade(s): 7-8 Schedules and coordinates the flow of work within or between departments of manufacturing plant to expedite production. Reviews master production schedule and work orders, establishes priorities for specific customer orders, and revises schedule according to work order specifications, established priorities, and availability or capability of workers, parts, materials, machines and equipment. Establishes and communicates completion dates for deliverables Production Control Clerk Global Grade(s): 5 Compiles and records production data to prepare records and reports on production volume, consumption of raw materials, quality control and other aspects of production from customer orders, work tickets, product specifications and individual worker production sheets. Inventory Planning and Control 6025 Inventory Control Manager Global Grade(s): Plans, directs, controls, coordinates, and evaluates all or most inventory planning and control activities (e.g., master scheduling, stocking, inventory planning/turnover, materials handling, and forecasting) of the organization. Manages inventory replenishment based on production schedules, current inventory, customer orders, and forecasts. Ensures accurate and current inventory records Inventory Control Supervisor Global Grade(s): 9-13 Controls amount of material on hand by supervising perpetual inventory. Supervises employees who take periodic physical inventory and order items that have become depleted. Furnishes reports as needed to forecast estimates and schedules of goods in process and needs for future production or use. Operates computer terminal and other computer-related equipment relevant to job duties. See Level Guide SUPV Inventory Control Clerk Global Grade(s): 5-8 Maintains records of materials in inventory and on order. Provides information to determine status of current orders and to forecast needs for future orders. Compiles records of amount, type, and value of material or stock on hand. Monitors reorder points, and initiates action to replenish stock. Reconciles discrepancies in inventories. Notifies supervisor of irregularities and when stock reaches designated reorder point. Compiles information on receipt or disbursement of inventories and computes inventory balances, prices and costs. Operates a personal computer and appropriate software packages or its equivalent. Notifies Purchasing to place orders and follows-up with vendors to ensure that required delivery dates are met. Prepares operational schedules and coordinates manufacturing activities to ensure production and quality of products meet specifications. Prepares and processes requisitions as appropriate Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) Manager Global Grade(s): Manages the planning, implementation and maintenance of relational EDI database operations. Ensures the successful flow and quality of all electronic data interchange transactions. Coordinates needs analysis studies, project plans and status reports. Develops EDI solutions for business operations and oversees the implementation of new EDI systems, enhancements and upgrades.

Performs EDI system maintenance necessary to update records, specifications, and operating procedures of partner systems. Maintains account activities of EDI transactions and generates management reports. Communicates account modifications to partners and internal users. Attends partner-sponsored training seminars on EDI upgrades and enhancements Stockroom Manager Global Grade(s): 8-11 Manages the activities of multi-location stockrooms responsible for the physical custody and accuracy of all inventory records on finished goods, component items, or assemblies Storeroom/Warehouse Supervisor Global Grade(s): 7-10 Supervises the receipt and storage of equipment, materials, merchandise and similar items in a storeroom or warehouse. Ensures that items are appropriately marked or tagged for identification purposes. Supervises employees who fill orders or requisitions for materials, and keep records of items issued and received. Reviews order forms for proper coding, quantities requested, and authorized approvals. Ensures that deliveries are made to proper departments. Ensures adequate and timely distribution of these elements to attain maximum sales potential consistent with good inventory control Distribution Supervisor Global Grade(s): 8-13 Supervises the daily work schedules of warehouse employees involved in performing a combination of: shipping, receiving, loading and unloading trucks, stacking, picking, packing and palletizing finished products. Determines space requirements for storage and schedules delivery and distribution of products, parts, and accessories to achieve distribution objectives and meet customer requirements. Prepares and analyzes inventory reports to identify slow-moving and/or surplus stock. Ensures maintenance of equipment and a safe, clean environment. Recommends changes in procedures to improve the operating efficiency of the unit. Provides guidance on internal transportation policies to ensure an integrated distribution system Traffic Manager Global Grade(s): Develops and maintains economical and efficient transportation service for the organization and its customers, including the rating and routing of inbound and outbound shipments where the organization bears the costs of transportation Traffic Dispatcher Global Grade(s): 7-10 Assigns shipments to specific carriers. Schedules in/outbound shipments. Traces lost or delayed shipments. Compiles statistics and prepares reports on dispatch information Traffic Supervisor Global Grade(s): 9-13 Supervises employees who determine rates and classifications applicable to various types of merchandise, products and equipment shipped and who compile schedules of existing rates and routes for analysis of possible savings in transportation costs. Supervises the preparation of claims against carriers for shipping losses or damages in transit and the maintenance of records to reflect changes in freight tariffs. Reviews invoices and shipping documents in order to ensure compliance with federal regulations Import/Export Supervisor Global Grade(s): 8-13 Supervises import/export clerks who compute duties, tariffs, price conversions, weight/volume and related activities of merchandise that is imported or exported to foreign countries. Ensures the accuracy of invoices, bills of lading, shipping statements and foreign currency conversions. Trains new import/export clerks. See Level Guide SUPV Import/Export Clerk Global Grade(s): 5-6 Computes duties, tariffs, price conversions, weight and volume of merchandise that is imported or exported to foreign countries. Examines invoices, bills of lading and shipping statements. Verifies conversion of merchandise weights or volumes based on country's method of weight and measure. Converts foreign currency into U.S. equivalent using rate charts. Corresponds with foreign organizations on routine matters. Operates a personal computer and appropriate software packages or its equivalent.

Releases merchandise to stock area. Completes reports, posts, logs and distributes data paperwork. Note that the intent of this position is to monitor the quality of the organization's products and not the quality of employee work activities. See Level Guide SUPP Fleet Manager Global Grade(s): Manages the operation and maintenance of motor vehicles and equipment, both owned and leased. Provides transportation for products and personnel at minimum cost consistent with sound operating practices, safety and performance Garage Supervisor Global Grade(s): 7-11 Supervises employees who maintain, repair and service all vehicles and equipment. Assigns vehicles to authorized personnel and maintains records of use, mileage, repairs and service. See Level Guide SUPV Transportation Supervisor Global Grade(s): 9-13 Supervises and assigns specific responsibilities to transportation personnel which may include route assignments, account processing, route delivery, and transportation activities. Ensures that all deliveries are completed in a timely manner. Controls vehicle maintenance schedules and records as required by contracts and regulations (i.e., accident reporting and vehicle inspections). Maintains DOT files to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and Local DOT regulations and requirements. May require a CDL license, knowledge of OSHA and dispatch procedures. Must hold applicable driver's license Truck Driver - Flatbed Global Grade(s): 5 Operates flatbed truck in accordance with established safety procedures. Transports cargo to and from specified destinations. Verifies truck load to ensure conformance with shipping documents. May load, secure and unload cargo. Collects payment for goods delivered. Maintains radio or telephone contact with supervisor or dispatcher to receive delivery or pickup instructions. Checks truck's equipment and supplies to ensure road worthiness.
