They had accepted the strange claim that the day of the Lord had come. 1: God will turn the tables on the persecutors at the time. 2: Warns against false teaching & to stand firm Audience: Church at Colossae Colossians Why: combat Jewish asceticism & Gnosticism belief that Body was evil, therefore resurrection was evil. Similar to Ephesians. God preserves His Own, Those who endure to the end will be saved. Warns Christians of impending dangers in the near future. Description of: the Final Judgment, Defeat of Satan, New Heaven and New Earth, Ends with a reminder of the things which would happen shortly
