2 30 Creative Publications Problem Solving Grades 1 6 Problem Solver II Integrating Problem Solving with Your Math Curriculum Problem Solver II builds on the concepts introduced in The Problem Solver. Problem Solver II offers hundreds of new problems that can be integrated into any math curriculum, and uses the same ten strategies and four-step method of problem solving. Problem Solver II provides step-by-step lesson plans for teaching students to solve problems and using a strategy or combination of strategies. The program is equally useful for introducing students to problem-solving and enriching their problem-solving experiences. Provides a bank of problems that integrate problem solving with all of the math content strands: Number and Operations, Algebra, Geometry, Measurement, Data Analysis and Probability Features problems that can be solved by using a combination of strategies Integrates basic skills with problem solving Allows teachers to insert content-appropriate problems into their daily math program Problem Solver II includes a bank of reproducible practice problems with interesting and relevant problem contexts, helping students to apply their problem-solving skills. All problems are keyed to math strands and skills, thus allowing teachers to customize the program to meet the needs of students. Program Organization The Problem Solver II program includes a Teacher Resource Book and Student Workbooks for each grade, 1 through 6. The Teacher Resource Book begins with a series of 38 Teaching Problems that you use to introduce the ten strategies. They are presented in pairs, giving students an opportunity to use the same strategy or combination of strategies twice. The Student Workbook parallels this lesson sequence, presenting all 38 teaching problems on two-page layouts. The optional Manipulative Kits are referenced throughout various teaching problems in the Teacher s Guide. Recommended manipulatives provide students with hands-on experience to learn the math concepts. NEW! Answering Extended- Response Math Problems Grades 3 8 Use Explain It! to build and assess understanding of math concepts and competence in problem solving. Students will consider options, apply mathematical thinking, and then explain their procedures as they find solutions to engaging problems. In addition, they will get valuable practice to prepare them for success in answering extended-response test items. A 72-page reproducible book is available for grades 3 4, 5 6, and 7 8. Each book contains: 10 sections with problems that address topics and concepts appropriate to the grade range Problems that lend themselves to a variety of solution methods Some problems that have more than one correct answer Opportunities for students to explain their thinking Grades 3 4 $ Grades 5 6 $ Grades 7 8 $ X All 3 books $85.95
4 32 Creative Publications Problem Solving Grades 3 8 Problem-Driven Math Applying the Mathematics Beyond Solutions Problem-Driven Math is designed to give teachers instruction, practice, and support for delivering problemsolving and reasoning strategies to their students. Extensive teacher support for each problem listed in the text is provided illustrating teaching tips, discussion questions, additional assessment problems, problemsolving strategies, and more! The Authors, Stephen Krulik and Jesse A. Rudnick, are also the authors of the award winning Roads to Reasoning series. Problem-Driven Math is a grade 3 8 series that uses a whimsical approach to teaching problem-solving. This text is purposely designed to provide students with fun, humorous, and engaging problem-solving activities. Problem-Driven Math also goes beyond teaching how to arrive at the solution, but to understand the process and concepts behind the process. Problem-Driven Math addresses the NCTM Content Standards: Number and operations Algebra Geometry Measurement Data Analysis and Probability Text Organization Problem-Driven Math is a blackline master problem solving series with a separate book for grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 as well as a middle school book covering grades 6 8. Each text is divided into two sections; a student section and a teacher section. Each page in the student section is reproducible and contains two different lesson problems. Each lesson problem is correlated directly to an NCTM Standard(s) as well as concepts and skills addressed with that lesson problem. The problems have engaging titles, illustrations, and provide plenty of room for students to complete their work. The teacher section contains support dedicated to each student lesson. Each teacher section provides the focus and related topics, discussion of the math used for each lesson, listing of the problem-solving strategies used, reduced student lesson pages, additional assessment problems, and class discussion questions related to each lesson topic. NEW! Other Features Correlations: A table in the front of each book lists each lesson, the NCTM Standard(s), and the specific math operation and related math topics addressed. A second correlation table is organized by NCTM Standards and the lessons that address each standard. Checklist: This sheet provides an area to record the date each lesson was completed and any notes about performance.
