1 Central Connecticut Tai Chi Ch'uan School of Tai Chi, Chi Kung and Holistic Studies Fall News Letter 2014 Directors, David and Barbara Ritchie Some Verses from Tai Chi Classics You have to think about the meaning and how it pertains to your Tai Chi Be still as a mountain move like a great river. The upright body must be stable and comfortable to be able to support (force from) the eight directions. Walk like a cat. Remember, when moving, there is no place that doesn't move. When still there is no place that isn't still First seek extension, then contraction; then it can be fine and subtle It is said if others don't move I don't move If others move slightly, I move first.

2 Read one verse and think about it's meaning as you practice your form. Try to write it out in your words. ie. walk like a cat In Tai Chi when stepping, touch the foot down carefully and lightly be soft and sensitive. Never lunging or over stepping. Maintain your upright posture and balance. Gradually and carefully transfer your weight to the other foot. I'm leaving the rest up to you! I am still as a mountain and move like a great river but I walk like a Panda! We are in the Fall now. A balance of Yin and Yang. It feels good after the months of Yang energy of summer. As we approach Winter the energy swings into Yin, a low energy time. You might feel moody, down, maybe even depressed as these are symptoms of Yin. You might be OK through December and begin to feel the lows in January. Whenever it happens just be aware of it and realize that it is not you. It is just the affect of the time of year. It does not matter whether it is warm or cold. It is the energy. A time to rest, to hibernate, and do Qigong and Tai Chi to maintain the Yin/Yang balance within you.

We practice 2 person routines and do some free play. The next session will be instruction in Da Lao 2 person form. This contains Splitting, Shoulder stroke, Ward off and Roll back Next Push Hands Class is October 19 DAV Hall, Meriden 80 Hall Ave Sunday 2:00 to 5:00pm Cost (20.00 for CCTCC students) This is open to any level of student.
