3 Introduction This report is to summarize the Study Tour Grant 2012 trip in Japan held by Japan Society of Civil Engineer (JSCE). Which I participated in August 2012 as a nominee by National University of Civil Engineering. 4 During this Study Tour, there are also three other students from another countries, who was invited by JSCE to join the STG Mr. Kim Eui Sung From Korea Steel Structure Department Pukyon National University 2. Trinh Thuy Huong From Vietnam Faculty of Building and Industrial Construction National University of Civil Engineering Nagoya University In the sep.4 afternoon, whole Mr. Yanagawa was preparing for the Annual Meeting on next day we went around Nagoya University, we went to seminar of students, library, supermarket, the garden and The Engineering and Science of Building. Everything in here were very nice, cleanly and comfortable.

7 JSCE International Summer Symposium 2012 JSCE Annual Meeting The Annual Meeting started at Sept.5 Mr. Takehiko Ono, JSCE president told opening address with everybody. We attended the Lessons of Mr Katsuji Hashiba. He is Deputy Director- General for Engineering Affairs, Policy Bureau, MLIT and he said about Learned in the Great East Japan Earthquake. After that there were 10 presentations of another countries in the world. They told about another topics, example: water, flood, natural disaster..v..v. And we had a buffet in the Nagoya University. 8 Buffet at night Technical Tour After the Annual Meeting, we went to technical tour in the Nagoya City. The first place was Ozone Storm water Reservoir. It is underground and used

9 when it rained heavy in the long time, and water can't flush. When that this will be used to taking water on few days. Some pictures about Ozone Storm Water Reservoir:

11 Tokugawaen Garden The next place, we were visited, was Tokuagwaen Garden. Tokugawaen is a Japanese garden, with numerous highlights around a pond in it's center. Landscapes in here is very beautiful and natural.

13 Banquet at Nagoya Tokyu Hotel After the Symposium, a Reception party was held at Nagoya Tokyu Hotel. When we attended the party, we told about under planning, designing, construction, about Japan and Annual Meeting in this day. Apart from camaraderie formation among the attendees, the party made us nearly together and make new friends in the world. Awaji Earthquake Memorial Museum 7th September 2012 I had a chance to visit special places in Kobe city to understand more of Japanese history and culture. We watched a film and know information about the Great Hanshin Earthquake in Kobe in January 17,1995. It also serves as a Memorial for the Japanese, reminding them of the value of building in harmony with nature and to teach them to future generations.

14 Akashi Kaikyo Bridge We first went to Akashi- Kaikyo Bridge- the Bridge World. I supplied about the beauty and structure of it. This is an attractive tour to the top of bridge, 300m over sea, and we can enjoy the panoramic view from the top. During we walking on the maintenance path, a leader who was involved in the construction work of the bridge gives us the information on its history and technology. After the end of Akashi- Kaikyo Bridge each of us were received a gift, there are the wonderful photo with participants and a certification for visiting the top. I was very happy because your thoughtful oh us.

16 Kyoto Sightseeing The last day in Kyoto, we had a tour around Kyoto city, we went to Kyoto Temple, Nijo Castle and Kinkaku Golden pavilion. Some pictures of tour:

17 On Sunday, I had a free time, I went to Odaiba Park by myself. It give me a special feeling, because i had to go alone in the difference country. In the way going to the Odaiba Park I met, told and asked somebody. All of them are very friendly and kind with me. I was very like people in there.

18 Japan Society of Civil Engineer Head Quarters In the morning, we were picked up by Mr. Yanagawa and were escorted to the JSCE Headquarters. We were visited the JSCE's library, JSCE's meeting room. After that we moved to Tsukuba.

20 The Public Works Research Institute The Public Works Research Institute( PWRI) is one of new Research Institutes in Tokyo which began their new operation in April 2006 when the Civil Engineer Research Institute of Hokkaido was integrated in PWRI. When we arrived, we watched a video about what PWRI does and recieved a copy of the video in DVD. And we listened about applying Master's or Doctor's Degree in Water Management. Continue we got on the mini bus and went to Earthquake Eng. Lab, Geotechnical Eng. Lab, Transportation Eng. Lab and Water Eng. Lab. The trip to the PWRI Facilities and Laboratories, and the one-on-one discussions with the researchers influenced me to give more devotion to research. I felt the rewarding passion, knowing that the work I will be doing could influence the track of future engineering.

22 Tour around Tokyo City On last day in Tokyo, four of us went out to visit famous place. First place was Yoyogi Temple, a Temple in the between of the forest. After we went to Harajuku, Shibuya and the Asakura street.

24 Reflection When I was informed that I was chosen to be one of the Japan Study Tour Grant recipients, I was excited beyond imagining. Now when I comeback my country, I'm sitting here and writing the SGT Report, I'm feeling very luckily when I was invited to the SGT of JSCE. Thank so much The JSCE give me a chance to Study, to Visiting and interesting memories in my life. I would like to say that the Study Tour, brief as it may, really, definitely broadened my horizon regarding civil engineering. It renewed my enthusiasm and excitement towards the career I chose. It defined my reasons to apply what I have learned, for the betterment of my society here at home Again, I am really, deeply thankful for the opportunity given to me by the Japan Society of Civil Engineers and the Vietnam Institute of Civil Engineers. Thank you so much for the chance to be introduced to Japanese civil engineering. Rest assured that I will convey everything that I learned to my colleagues. Thank you very much for the warm hospitality. Because I really want to comeback to Japan once again, so I'll try my best to study to apply Master's Degree in Japan. See you in the future, I promise I'll meet you again, Japan. Sorry for my mistake and bothering when the time I stayed in Japan. Thank for your help: Mr Yanagawa and everybody helped us in this Tour.
