The noise modeling calculations showed that the installation of noise barriers to the north and west of the site will provide the necessary noise reduction to meet the noise limits at the receptors around the wellpad. Noise modeling TOTAL has awarded Golder Associates a number of environmental monitoring tasks, including the provision of noise modeling calculations submitted to the Municipality on Friday 3rd July 2015 (reference TEP DK ). The noise calculations were carried out by a noise specialist company called 103. As documented in the memo TEP DK , the major sources of noise are the generators that supply power for drilling and the mud pumps. The noise sources were modeled with the input data documented in Appendix 1. The noise modeling was based on the noise data obtained to date, including the attached report (Sound Power determination of work area for shale gas drilling, Total E&P, Dybvad Appendix 1). As discussed in the meeting of the 2nd July2 015, TOTAL has only just received this report from its contractor (issued in draft on 23rd June 2015 and finalized 7th July 2015). TOTAL attaches a copy of a letter from Golder advising the date of delivery for the noise deliverables to TOTAL (Appendix 2). As discussed, the lateness of the reports from its subcontractors has hindered the response time in order to respond to elevated noise concerns. TOTAL were clearly unhappy with this situation and as such reinforced dialogue with the closest neighbors throughout this period. The closest neighbors did not raise any major concerns regarding noise generated from drilling activities. The noise calculations provided to the Municipality on 3rd July 2015 shows that with implementation of additional noise mitigation on the north and west of the site will reduce noise experienced at the receptors around the site (in all 4 directions north, south, east and west). TOTAL has full filled the requirement asked of on the 2nd July 2015 to document the effectiveness of the noise mitigations that will be implemented. Noise mitigation As explained in the meeting of the 2nd July 2015, TOTAL has conducted additional informal noise measurements at the source of the noise in order to refine the noise mitigation measures proposed and to optimize the source reduction measures. The mitigation proposed has been selected based on the noise data available (from spot and continuous noise measurement campaigns). TOTAL have already identified a number of insitu alternatives to a north-west noise barrier that will reduce the noise at receptors including implementation of noise reduction barriers near the sources of noise and other buffering devices. The modeling calculations submitted on 3 rd July 2015, do not reflect these optimized noise mitigations as we need to understand further the effectiveness of these local measures which shall be done throughout the installation phase of the barriers etc. In any case the most effective measures will be implemented by July 20 th 2015 as agreed. TOTAL have taken good note of your remark on the local residence at Skævevej 104. As shown in the report submitted by TOTAL on July 3 rd 2015 the proposed noise measures reduce effectively the noise level at this specific location. With the implementation of point source noise mitigations TOTAL believe the noise experienced at this location will also be reduced and the appropriate noise limits respected. TOTAL also attach a technical note from 103 (Appendix 3), which details the noise measured at this address.

2 Next steps TOTAL are focusing time and resources on implementation of the noise mitigation barriers and local improvements keeping in mind the specific concerns that Frederikshavn Municipality have raised. TOTAL are planning the noise monitoring campaign to provide evidence to Frederikshavn Municipality that the noise limits are achieved with the noise mitigations that will be implemented. As agreed mitigation measures shall be implemented no later that 20th July 2015 and a report documenting the noise levels (performed by an accredited noise specialist) following the implementation of the mitigation shall be provided by the 10th August TOTAL remains at your disposal should you have any further enquiries regarding the noise. 7 1. Introduction 103 ApS has carried out noise measurements for the client Golder Associates A/S in order to determine the sound power level of the work area for shale gas drilling at Dybvad. The measurements were carried out from 14:10 to 14:40 the 6 th of May The measurements were carried out by René Hansen, Certified for Miljømåling ekstern støj During the measurements and subsequent analysis in the laboratory the instruments in paragraph 9 were used. The entire measuring chain was calibrated before and after the measurement series. 2. Measurement method The measurements were carrie out in compliance with ISO 8297:1994 referred to as the process method in ref. 1: The measurement setup is shown in Fejl! Henvisningskilde ikke fundet.. Measurements were carried out in 16 positions around the enclosure, starting from the entrance of the work area. Note that measurement position 2 is discarded because the measured level at position 2 exceeds the average level of the measured levels more than 10 db( because of loose cable connector) The distance between measurement positions are 30 m. The entire measuring chain was calibrated before and after the measurement series. No correction of the background noise has been carried out as the background noise level is estimated to be more than 10 db below the total noise level. 3. Meteorological conditions The weather was clear, approximately. 2-3 m/s wind from south west and the temperature about 11 C. 4. Noise source The noise was stationary during measurements. The noise level was averaged over a period of 1 minute in each position. The acoustic center is about 2.5 m above the ground. Page 5 of 8

The noise level for each measurement position is stated in Appendix The character of the noise Subjectively there were no clear audible tones or impulses at the measurement positions. 7. Uncertainty According to ref. 2, the measurement uncertainty σ is determined by the plant design and the average measurement distance. According to ref. 2 the measurement uncertainty is -2 db. This results in an extended uncertainty δ which in this case for the plant will be: δ = 1,7 σ = 1,7 2 = 3,4 db Page 6 of 8

The noise monitoring aimed to identify how the baseline noise pattern is modified by the project. The noise monitoring consists of two measurements; a short time measurement of the source strength and a period of continuous measurement at the six nearest dwellings around the site and at the site. The full reports can be seen in the appendix. The final reports were delivered from 103 to Golder and Total at July 7th It is Golder s understanding that the reports answer the questions Frederikshavn Municipality has issued Total regarding noise, including mitigating measures. 17 1. Introduction On behalf of Total E&P via Golder Associates A/S 103 ApS has carried out noise calculations related to the activity of shale gas drilling at Dybvad. The calculations document the noise exposure in the immediate area. 2. The environment and noise sources of the drilling area Total E&P Denmark shale gas drilling (named the company) is located at Ovnsturpvej in open countryside approximately 5 km northwest of Dybvad in Nordjylland. The company primarily consists of a drilling rig and associated diesel generators, auxiliaries, mud systems and equipment for handling drill pipes. See Appendix 1. The area is defined as open country. Ovnstrupvej 6 which is the nearest receiver position is located north east of the company. The terrain is predominantly acoustical soft. The company belongs to and is operated by Total E&P Denmark. An overview of the area and the receiver positions are shown in Fejl! Henvisningskilde ikke fundet.. The nearest residential area an receiver point is Ovnstrupvej 6 which is approximately 240 m from the company. Page 3 of 10

Noise limits The recommended noise limits for the area of the receiver positions are according to the Environmental Protection Agency s department guideline no. 5/1984 Ekstern støj fra virksomheder as shown in Table 1. Background noise The background noise is estimated to primarily from traffic on surrounding roads. 5. The method used for calculation The calculation of the environmental noise is carried out according to the Environmental Protection Agency s guideline in ref. 1. The calculation includes general data about distances, acoustic properties of the terrain, sound barriers and buildings, etc. All relevant noise sources are modeled as an area source indicating the position and the sound power. The calculation has been carried out using SoundPlan, ver. 7.3, Update The location of the noise source is shown in Appendix 1. The following symbols have been used: : Area source (eg. Assumptions and sound power levels Noise data which is used as input for the calculations are measured and calculated sound power levels of the existing plant and is described in report 2022-Lydeffektbestemmelse ISO-8297 Total Dybvad, document no. SNT The major noise sources during drilling are as follows: Power Generators Generators and mud pumps It is assumed that all fixed noise sources at the plant are operating at 100 % around the clock seven days a week. The height and acoustic center of the noise source is about 2 m above ground. At the nearest receiver position MP5 the distance to the nearest noise sources are about meters. 7. Results Noise calculations have been carried related to 7 receiver positions around the company. At each receiver position a height of 1.5 m above the local terrain is used. However at MP1, MP4 and MP5 a receiver height corresponding to 1 st floor has also been used. The location of the receiver positions are shown in Fejl! Henvisningskilde ikke fundet.. For information an ISO noise contour map showing the noise level around the company is attached (see Appendix 2) The noise contour map is calculated at a receiver height of 1.5 m and a grid size of 5 m. It should be mentioned that when calculating ISO noise contour maps the software program includes reflections for receiver positions close to buildings. These levels can therefore be up to 3 db than free field levels. Page 6 of 10

21 The uncertainty of the calculated noise levels are carried out according to ref. 3 and are calculated to 3.7dB. 8. The character of the noise It is no expected that the company will give rise to clearly audible tones in the surrounding receiver positions. In the document no. REH Immissionsmåling af støj fra Total E&P, Denmark, Skifergas-boring, Dybvad tone analysis has been carried out at the nearest receiver position resulting in no clearly audible tones. Likewise no clearly audible impulses could be detected. Therefore no 5 db annoyance penalty has been added to the calculated equivalent A-weighted sound pressure level L Aeq. The noise rating level L r is therefore equals the calculated sound pressure level L Aeq. 9. Conclusion Noise calculations of the expected Noise Rating Level have been carried out in 7 receiver positions in the nearest surroundings to Total E&P Denmark shale gas drilling. Noise data which is used as input for the calculations are measured and calculated sound power levels of the existing plant and is described in report 2022-Lydeffektbestemmelse ISO-8297 Total Dybvad, document no.
