NO RELOADS Approved hearing protection Approved eye protection Note: Because this course is designed to teach you the basics of your gun, the Instructor cannot provide you with any pistols. Ammunition is the responsibility of the student. Ammunition can be provided by the instructor at his cost + 15% charge and must be paid for prior to the classroom start. Reservations for ammunition must be made 1 week prior to start of the class. Description: FIRST stands for Firearm Instruction, Responsibility, and Safety Training, a program the NRA developed to meet the need for a firearms orientation program for new gun purchasers. This FIRST Steps program is a basic course abbreviated to the most fundamental shooting skills, and the specifics of a particular model of pistol. This course is meant for those that have purchased a handgun and would like gain an understanding of the storage, transportation, maintenance and safe handling skills for that particular firearm. Goals: This is a 3-4 hour instructor led course that covers the safe handling, operation and maintenance of your specific handgun. Students are given the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for the safe handling, operation and storage of their firearm and the ammunition it uses. Students are also instructed in and practice stances, firing grips, sight alignment, sight picture and handgun manipulation in a live fire environment. This class does include range time. Bring your own firearm with you if you are lawfully allowed to possess and transport that firearm. All firearms should be locked in a case separate from the ammunition at all times. Ammunition is not allowed in the classroom for any reason To provide beginning shooters with an introduction to the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to own and use a specific pistol model safely.
