What is Eczema? Eczema (atopic dermatitis) is a recurring, non infectious, inflammatory skin condition affecting one in three Australasians at some stage throughout their lives. Eczema cannot be cured but it can be managed. The underlying cause of eczema is an excessive reaction of the immune system, which results in an inflammation of the skin. Many factors are at cause, with genetics, environment and impaired immune responses being the most predominant. The two most prevalent eczema categories are: Atopic Eczema Also known as atopic dermatitis, its major cause is genetics. Flare ups can be triggered by factors such as allergens, asthma, environmental factors, sweat, irritants and stress. Contact Eczema This kind of eczema occurs more often in adults. Contact eczema can be the result of an allergic reaction to one or many varied substances at work or around the home.

What are the symptoms of Eczema? Moderate to severely itching skin (this symptom separates eczema from other skin rashes) Recurring dry, red, patchy or cracked skin. (In infants and toddlers, this usually appears on the face, elbows or knees. In older children and adults, this appears less often on the face, and more commonly on the hands, neck, inner elbows, backs of the knees and ankles) Skin weeping watery fluid Rough, "leathery," thick skin Lesions which may be infected by bacteria or viruses. Who is affected? Eczema can affect people of any age, however atopic eczema more commonly appears in babies and children, and about 85% of those affected have an onset prior to 5 years of age. Eczema often resolves by around age 3 in about half of affected infants. In others, the condition tends to recur throughout life. People with eczema often have a family history of the condition or a family history of other allergic conditions such as hay fever or asthma.

How to treat Eczema? Eczema cannot be cured but it can be managed. Treatments such as Dermalex Repair aim to control the symptoms by reducing inflammation, relieving the itching and moisturising the skin. The occurrence of eczema may differ from person to person, and in order to avoid the next flare up, every patient needs his own treatment approach. Recurrence may be prevented if the eczema triggers, as well as scratching and excessive water contact, are avoided. Examples of triggers are soaps, cosmetics, detergents, clothing, jewellery and perspiration, or environmental factors such as stress, pollution, changes in temperature or humidity and cigarette smoke. To keep flare ups at bay, personal hygiene, rest, relaxation and general good health are also very important, as well as keeping the skin moisturised. Dermalex Daily Natural Moisturiser is ideal for this, especially because it is an hypoallergenic formulation that will not trigger further irritation. What is Dermalex? Dermalex Repair is a barrier repair accelerator: it relieves the symptoms by activating the skin s own repair mechanism and avoids new flare ups by creating a protective barrier on the skin. The formulation has been clinically tested and was developed in close collaboration with dermatologists and paediatricians, thus ensuring all the necessary elements for a complete skin treatment. Dermalex Repair does not contain cortisone, therefore it is safe enough to use in conjunction with other treatments or on its own. The Dermalex range caters for both Atopic and contact eczema in adults and children. Dermalex also offers a natural moisturiser to use as part of ongoing treatment regime. Dermalex Natural Moisturiser keeps the affected area moist to promote skin healing and provide relief of symptoms. It is a hypoallergenic formulation ideally suited for sensitive skin.

Dermalex Repair can be used as a stand alone treatment for mild and moderate atopic eczema, In severe cases, Dermalex Eczema is recommended as part of a combination treatment with cortisone creams, to be used after the initial cortisone treatment to maintain the skin s health and to prevent further flare ups Dermalex Eczema for Babies & Children is suitable for babies from 8 weeks old and up to the age of 6. In severe cases, Dermalex can be used in combination with Cortisone treatments, or as a stand alone treatment afterwards. Dermalex Irritation from Allergic Reactions is for treatment of environmental contact eczema, which occurs due to an irritation or allergic reaction to one or more environmental triggers.

Maintenance Regime Eczema can be exacerbated by dryness of the skin. Moisturizing is one of the most important self care treatments for eczema. Keeping the affected area moistened can promote skin healing and relief of symptoms. Dermalex Daily Moisturiser combines two key ingredients: New Zealand Manuka Honey and Colloidal Oatmeal together with other natural ingredients to boost skin health. Dermalex Natural Moisturiser is a hypoallergenic formulation. It was created especially for sensitive skin and combines all natural some organic ingredients to retain skin moisture to ensure no further flare ups of allergic or irritated skin. It is light enough to be used every day. What s in it? New Zealand Manuka Honey: Colloidal oatmeal: New Zealand Flaxseed Oil: Cucumber oil: Chamomile extract: Organic Shea butter: Anti bacterial and moisturising properties. Soothes and protects the skin. May help reduce inflamed skin and symptoms of eczema and psoriasis. Cooling and anti itch effect. Calming effect. Natural moisturiser which soothes and protects.
