The assessment will be completed during their usual Mathematics lesson time. Students need to bring their own calculator to the lesson. It is helpful for students to refer to their self-assessment sheet in their exercise book for a list of topics likely to appear on this assessment. The assessment will take place as follows: 7 L/M/N Tuesday 20th October 7 P/Q/R/S Wednesday 21st October Mr Tharmarajah, 2nd in Department and Head of KS3 Mathematics ITALIAN CLUB, WEDNESDAYS PM, ROOM 401 Ciao tutti! The club runs every Wednesday and is open to girls in all years who wish to learn / improve their Italian. Mrs Brett, Ms Barral & Ms Cesar, Teachers of MFL CAREERS SUPPORT UPDATE Year 12 Year 12 Students will have the opportunity to undertake further Work Experience. This will take place during the last week of the Summer Term, Monday to Friday, 18th to 22nd July. Students will be introduced to the scheme on Thursday 22nd October by the Sixth Form Team. Year 11 All of our Year 11 Students are receiving a one-to-one careers interviews with a trained Careers Adviser from the Barnet Education Employment Training Support Team (BEETS). We have an adviser working with our students, three days a week, up until the end of November.

2 Following interview, the students receive a feedback sheet which contains information about useful websites and a list of action points. Please encourage your daughter to discuss these with you. Year 10 Year 10 will shortly be learning about the World of Work and Work Experience. This is taught during PSHE lessons. There will be lots of information available regarding work experience which takes place between 18th and 22nd July. Although it seems a long way off, the administration involved in running this scheme is dependent on your support to return the relevant paperwork by the deadline dates provided. Information packs for Parents and Carers will be sent out via over the next few weeks and we hope that you will take the time to look at the information in order to have those conversations at home that will best support your daughter to make the appropriate choices for herself. If anyone is interested in providing a placement for work experience or knows a friend or relative that might be able to help, please do let us know. contact initially is preferable to Mrs Janet Douglas, Careers Coordinator THOUGHTS FROM YEAR 7 ON THE TRIP TO ST ALBANS On Wednesday 30th September the whole of Year 7 went on an adventure to St Albans. We were given small booklets that were filled in along the journey. First we set off to explore the park. Then we went to study the cathedral. On the way we walked past the lake and saw all the wild life. Overall we had an amazing time and we would recommend it to next year s Year 7 students. Kenisha Arunasalon and Nicola Luxford 7L When I arrived at school, in the cafeteria, it was bursting with Year 7 voices. Then the coaches arrived at school. We were given a short talk on behaviour and then we set off. On the coach everyone was enjoying themselves by talking and singing or even sleeping. When we arrived in St Albans were put into groups and then we started the adventure. There was all sorts of learning such as History, Geography and RE; well that is what humanities is. By the time we had finished the first half of our day, we were tired, so it was a relief to finally sit down and have lunch. After lunch we continued to look around St Albans and then the coaches arrived to take us back to school. All in all, it was a great day. Salma Selim 7M

3 NATIONAL POETRY DAY THURSDAY 8TH OCTOBER As part of the school s drive to continually raise standards of literacy and also to support the girls to develop their enjoyment of both reading and writing poetry, our Thoughts for the day this week included diverse poems from across the ages and across the world. Teachers shared their favourites during assemblies and the English Department exploited the day as part of the girls scheme of learning for the week. We are including the poem of one of our Year 7 students here for you to share in what was a week of absolute pleasure for us all. I COME FROM I come from a deep dark realm Of warmth that s never awoken Although abruptly sliced apart by an alarm. I come from burnt toast on Sunday morning And long walks through dew dropped fields Hot and cold at the same time. I come from muddy wellies and dog lick on my face A gentle muster of pedigree chicken and rice on my hands. The plopping sound of pebbles in the stream And horsefly bites you can t get rid of! Ms Southwell, Assistant Headteacher Trixie Smith 7P MUSICAL INSTRUMENT TUITION If your daughter wishes to take instrumental lessons next term, please complete the form at the end of the newsletter and send it, with payment, to the address listed, by the 2nd November. Mr Nathan, Head of Music CHARITY FUNDRAISER FOR CEREBAL PALSY 8N are doing a charity sweet sale to raise money for Cerebral Palsy on Thursday 15 th October We would like you to come and help raise money by buying sweets which we will be selling in the canteen. Please make sure you bring some change and help this worthy cause. 8N
