1 Post of Training and Development Officer AHECS is the Association for Higher Education Careers Services across the 27 Universities and Institutes of Technology in Ireland north and south. Every year our member services support approximately 180,000 students studying in the higher education sector 50,000 of whom are preparing for graduation. There are currently 5 active task Groups within the Association. Employability Task Group Labour Market Task Group Work Placement Task Group Professional Development Task Group Product Development Task Group The Professional Development Task Group is committed to the continuing professional development and the promotion of best practice for career practitioners. The group does this by delivering training courses and seminars to its members and in the provision of financial assistance in the form of bursaries to members who pursue additional qualifications related to their profession. Applications are invited from suitably qualified people to design and develop a programme of continuous professional training for careers practitioners to keep their skills relevant and up to date and to conduct relevant research. Candidates will have post graduate training in Guidance and Counselling, Training and Development, Human Resource Management or related areas or are in the process of completing such a qualification. The contract will be part time, up to a maximum of 15 hours per week and rostered on a flexible working arrangement subject to the demands of the job. Remuneration will be hourly based at the rate of 22 per hour. See attached job description and personal specification for this position. 2 Training Development Officer Position AHECS Job Description Scope of the Job The training and development officer handles the learning and professional development programme offered to the association members. The training and development officer in collaboration with the AHECS CPD task Group and AHECS Executive will develop the short term training programme and also longer term initiatives. Short term training will involve putting a programme of training events together for the next 12 months taking into account the different training needs of members whether working in the areas of advisory, placement, information, support and management. This will involve conducting a training needs analysis based on survey results, research and consultation with associates. Longer term, the design and establishment of a programme of continuous professional training for careers practitioners to keep their skills relevant and up to date would be required. Duties and Responsibilities Identifying the training and development needs within the association through appraisal and consultation with association members and heads of service. Designing the training programme of events for the next 12 months and advertising and promoting this to the association members. Building the training resources and materials of the association this would include training notes and presentations, training materials and methodologies, e learning materials, dvds, videos etc. Co ordinating with the other Task Groups to organise training sessions as part of a larger event or conference such as the Biennial event or Labour market event. Identifying suitable trainers and speakers for training events and negotiating fees where applicable. Designing alternative training delivery systems to meet the needs of members, e.g. online and e learning training courses, development of training materials and best practice guides. Research on career development issues and dissemination of same Introducing new career development initiative e.g. mentoring programmes. Encouraging the sharing of best practice among members by making arrangements or creating an opportunity for members to engage in best practice sharing and collaboration. Budgeting for planned programmes and keeping expenditure within budgeted amounts. Conducting appraisals after training events and using the results of appraisal to introduce continuous improvement to training programmes and seminars. Keeping up to date and informing members of developments in training by going to meetings, conducting research, reading journals and attending relevant courses.
