2 DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: country profile. Population 10 Million. Territorial Extension: 48,700 km2. Open economy with more than US$27,000 MM in export/import The country with the most maritime and aerial connections in the Caribbean. We export more than 3,780 product lines, to more than 189 countries. 2
3 Dominican Republic Main exporter of organic bananas and cocoa to the UE. Main exporter of cigars to the USA. Between the 9 main exporters of mangoes to the UK. Main exporter of sugar-cane rum to Spain and 3 rd worldwide. 3
4 Export and Investment Center of the Dominican Republic (CEI-RD). CEI-RD is the official agency responsible for the promotion of exports and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). - To promote the Dominican Republic in the international markets for goods and services; - To offer technical and policy assistance to improve new markets, identify new products with potential for exportation and enhance competitiveness; -To support export promotion and expansion for sustained economic development in the Dominican Republic; - To support capacity-building efforts of Dominican policy-makers and entrepreneurs to attract international investment. 4
5 Strategic Public Policies: export promotion. Improve access to foreign markets and facilitate international trade; Develop value-added production capacities; Sustainable financing: Support collaborations to generate research and infrastructure capacity; Support the exports of goods and services. Generate quality employment. 5
6 Export Promotion Strategy: Dominican Republic Experience. KSP for the Dominican Republic began in June KSP The Korean Ministry of Strategy and Finance (MOSF) selected the Dominican Republic as the first beneficiary country for the KSP in Latin America. Objectives Provision of assistance through capacity building and competitiveness enhancement of working-level officials involved in the mission; Support capacity-building efforts of Dominican policymakers and entrepreneurs to facilitate the promotion of export s and sustained economic development in the Dominican Republic. 6
7 Project Background KSP I-VI. KSP I (2008): A comprehensive policy advisory service was carried out for the export development policy of the Dominican Republic. KSP II (2009): Policy advisory services concentrated on the construction of structural infrastructure in order to improve SOC for export promotion and modernization of the power system, among others. KSP III (2010): Efforts were concentrated on the export financing sector in order to support the establishment of an Export Credit Agency (ECA) in the Dominican Republic. 7
8 Project Background KSP I-VI. KSP IV (2011): Aimed at export credit capacity building and export industry promotion for the Dominican Republic. KSP V (2012): Provided continued support for export credit capacity building as well as a training courses. Policy advisory services concentrated on: - Follow-up support in launching DEXIM for Export Credit Capacity Building of the Dominican Republic; KSP VI (2013): - Improvement of Food Quality System by establishment of DFRI (Dominican Food Research Institute) in Dominican Republic; - Establishment of the CIBAO Trade Center in the Dominican Republic. 8

11 The Export Bank of the Dominican Republic (BANDEX). The Export Bank of the Dominican Republic (BANDEX) Financial institution dedicated exclusively to the promotion of national productive capacities and export promotion. Strengthen the national system for the financing and promotion of exports of goods and services, with emphasis on the expansion of exports of high added value and diversification of markets. Promote export development on the basis of a competitive dynamic insertion in international markets. 11
12 BANDEX. Next Steps. Completion of the transformation process of the BNVP. Approval of the bill creating the BANDEX duly agreed between the institutions involved in the project. Create and organize the platform of financial products that will make BANDEX attractive to export sector in the Dominican Republic. Initial and ongoing training for the human resources that will be involved in the project, both for the CEI-RD and BNVP. 12
